Allright.
Latly no games have held my interest more then 10 mins before i wipe it off my harddrive (Command & Conquorer 3 was the last game to suffer this fate). An bit frustrating to have an top of the line gaming rig, without an single game that is interesting on it.
Used to be an big gamer, but nothing seems to get me glued to the monitor anymore. Would be great if you could post an top five list of the games you play.
-
IL2 (And add-ons)
Far Cry
Warbirds
Splinter Cell
LOMAC
-
Silent Hunter 3 and AH are the only games of newer date that has not become boring the same day i tried em.
-
I'm still playing Rome: Total War (with RTR 1.8). I'll be honest, I'm wiping up with Greek Cities.
-
Oblivion
HL2
Call of Duty 2
Company of Heroes
Far Cry
-
I too wander into game stores and tucked in the corner are the pc games. Consoles own the space today where the pc games once reigned.
Usually nothing gets my attention. I do want to try silent hunter though. Also the Hitman series are really good.

Crimson skys

Nickjr .
Mummy maze
He discovered the Hotwheels site and is tearing up all those games along with counting his piggy bank change and informing me what cars he wants ...
-
This is good timing. I was just discussing with my father in law about being disappointed with the latest games. I told him I wanted a legacy machine so I could play some of my older games, ones that were intended for Win98 only machines.
Right now I play only 3 games;
Fighting Steel (YES! 9 years after the initial release!)
BF-1942 (Dig the physics and the carnage, still makes me laugh!)
AHII (offline mode for now, online coming later)
I have an Xbox 360 for more games but am hoping they come out with controllers closer to a PC keyboard than that thing with hella buttons and triggers on it. Don't much care for it.
-
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Best fps game I've played.
-
LOL, I KNEW that was coming!
-
Have you tried it yet? :)
-
Not on an AMD 1700+ with an Nvidia FX5700 card. My rig is pretty old, 5 or so years old.
-
Ah, I see. You need a pretty powerful rig to run it.
-
ww2online, just can't pry myself away from it

Stuck in a glitch? :D

Ya, its becoming more and more clear to me that i need to take the plunge money wise and invest in new controllers and get back into Aces High.
CH rudders 135$
TM Cougar (throttle and joystick) 280$
$415 Total :cry , an bit steep , and summer is here soon... Perhaps i should stay bored gaming wise untill next fall.
Btw, anyone tried the Saitek X52 Pro? is it worth the money or should i pony up the extra bucks for the Cougar?
-
Tribes -- still a blast since 1998
Red Orchestra
a bunch of old arcade games on MAME.
that's it..
-
AH2
Never Winter Nights
super mario world (Super Nintindo)
donkey kong (super nintindo)
nhl 96 (sega)
those are my all time favorite games :aok and still the best IMO
-
What HTC didn't get all five votes!!! Damn:D
-
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2
AHII
BF-1942
Gran Turismo 2
Gran Turismo 4
Wrigley's Candystand "Bullpen Blast"
Jane's Fleet Command - Hated that game with a passion, but still addicting and fun until some Ruskie anti-ship missile made it through about 5 destroyers and 2 cruisers and a frigate to sink my carrier in one hit. Then I broke the disc in two.
-
World of Warcraft (warcrack... nuff said)
Navy Field: Ressurection of the Steel Fleet (free, mmo, pretty spiffy)
The Movies (empire builder... kinda sorta)
Falcon 4: AF (needs a graphics overhaul, but still good)
Company of Heroes (the king of all RTS games)
-
I only play three games these days:
Red Orchestra (by far the best FPS I've ever played)
Battlefield 2 with Project Reality mod (one shot kills and British Army kit)
Pro Evolution Soccer 6
-
AHII - That one goes without saying..so it doesn't count.
Silent Hunter 4
Supreme Commander
Space Empires 5
Galactic Civilizations 2
Locomotion
Also...Eve-Online has been tugging at the back of my brain. I played that game for over 2 years...was so addicted. I only quit because of my connectile disfunction. But...with the end of my Wildblue contract looming (I play AH over dialup)...I may finally stop suffering from CD.
-
Havent played AHII since Feburary,
C&C Generals and Zero Hour, I just keep finding new maps to play
actually finished Half Life 2
Doom 3, never finished
Pacific assault, never finished
Call Of Duty 2, finished
I want to check out C&C 3.
-
forza
puzzle pirates
some kind of jumpman/loderunner wannabe flash game
aces high, offline, occasionally.
-
Is there any sort of Forza / GT clone for the PC out there?
-
HL2
Far Cry
Heroes V
Heroes III
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Seems to be a bit of dry patch in the current crop of games. Just finished Quake IV....Yawn....and am currently playing MOH Pacific assault but loosing interest rapidly.
-

I hear ya, I could only take so much of "Banzai" and screaming japanese soliders running at me out of the jungle, again, and again, and again...
Far Cry was the same, never finished, some where on my harddrive is a nuclear weapon just waiting to be rescued..
-
AH2
Eve Online

Dawn of War
Half Life 2: EP 1

I'm considering starting up R:TW again, but having to face the swarm of little bugs is putting me off it. Do you know whether the Total Realism mod addresses them?
By swarm of little bugs, I mean silly things like Sea Admirals not gaining experience properly, etc. I remember there being a bunch of problems I had to manually fix by turning them on in some huge text file.
-
Aces High II
Civ4 (started a new game not too long ago)
Red Orchestra
The Ship
MSFS2004 (and add-ons).

I haven't had any major problems with RTR:Gold Edition and have been playing it since it came out... check out the forums over there and ask them, though, as I'm not really into the techincal things regarding the game.
Good fun, nonetheless, and definately better than the vanilla version.

I loved playing as the Macedonians! One thing I absolutely hated was how your leaders would acquire dozens of negative traits just because you were doing well. I don't mind a few leaders here and there, but I found it excessive, and it made me think "man, this family is full of *******es. I hope I lose".

There are a few write-ups over on those forums describing how to avoid certain negative traits. Spending too much time in a city, or having too much money in the bank are big no nos.
-
Poker Stars
AH2
Red Orchestra
rinse/repeat
Probably get the retail of Armed Assualt and Enemy Terroritory Quake.
-
AHII
online backgammon
minesweeper
scrabble-blast
spider solitare
I know. Don't say it: I'm a total nerd.
-
Everquest
Ultimate Bet (Online Poker)
Combat Mission - Overlord
Combat Mission - Barbarossa to Berlin
Combat Mission - Afrika Korps
-
Rome Total War (total realism) - great game
Medievil Total War II - even better game.(IMHO anyway, I just enjoy the medievil era stuff more than Rome)
Silent Hunter 3 - very challenging game with everything turned on.
X3 Reunion - Awesome space empire builder, shooter, logistics sim.
Armed Assault - next gen of Operation Flashpoint, outstanding game, especially Co-op with good mates. (anyone who owns it, try Evolution Coop.....best mission ever)
Anyone who doesnt own it, search google video for Armed Assault or ArmA to see what you are missing out on.
-
Total Annihilation - TAUCP Pack
Medal of Honor - Pacific
HL2
Lux
Sudden Strike 2
But I'm looking for a decent (and recent) space sim, with all the bells and whistles like X3
-
AHII
Silent Hunter IV
Medieval Total War II
MS FSX (with A-26 Invader add-ons)
Waiting for Pirates of the Burning Seas.
Got tired of aimbots and hacks in the BF2 and 2142 games as well as "rigged" servers (server team slanted).
Got tired of Fantasy setting MMOGs. Just burned out on them.
Got tired of Auto Assault.... too many MMOGs are just endless treadmill grind machines.
Got away from scripted games.... play level X repeatedly until you figure a way around all the game's AI to move to the next level. I prefer more open play when possible.
The whole PC game market seems to be about eye candy, treadmill leveling machines, twitch shooters, and catering to lowest common denominator of instant gratification and "buy the game - follow the game guide/cheat codes/FAQ walk-throughs". It's getting pretty discouraging finding a game that can be really entertaining.
-
And that's exactly why I want to setup a legacy machine to play the older games I haven't played in years.

10 Years ago what do you think the game aficionado's were saying about the games of their day?
-
We were saying, "Holy****!!! These games f***in' rock!!!!"
Jane's, Silent Service, X-Com, Diablo, Unreal...man, the memories.
-
Medieval Total War ( I have Rome & MTW2 but don't play them)
C&C Generals & Zero Hour Expansion
Delta Force Extreme (I enjoy the map making as much as the shooting)
Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl ROCKS IMO. I'm on my second time through it.
Aces High
These are the games that live on my desktop. MTW has been there for over 4 years, and I still enjoy it. C&C Generals has been there almost 3 years. Stalker of course is new, and I love the interface & awesome graphics.

You ever played Independence War 2? It's a UK game, been out a long while but...the graphics are still passable and the gameplay/story are great. Independence War 1 was probably my favorite space sim of all time...though it's graphics are WAY outdated, especially since it was only Glide compatible lol

Sounds like you're maturing out of the gaming cycle like me... at 54. :rofl
Jeeze... I'd say it's personal preference really, but the Saitek X52 Stick/Throttle for $129 and the pedals are $149 or less depending on where you get them. I got the the whole enchilada for $210 USD at a CompUSA going out of business. Would have prefered CH-pro USB like my analog CH-HOTAS rig was but costs kept me from it.
Saitek is infinitely easier to program than TM or CH imho. I'll see if they last as long as my CH gear did (10 years). Saitek pedals are more like the TM ones in foot placement and toe brakes. Very natural, comfortable fit.
Now the X52 Pro...? Wish I'd waited a few months and gotten that throttle/stick rig as they made a few things even easier to get to as well as added prgramming for the lit buttons colors... Red/Orange/Green
Games?
AH2
UFO: Aftershock (always loved the UFO series games... tough as they can be.)
iL2: 1946 (finally came out and updated)
Warbirds (dunno why I keep going back to that arcade. At least the CEO is now my wingleader too :huh )
Silent Hunter 3 and 4
Various Beta's (LOTR:Online, Age of Conan, City of Franchise, Atriarch... DAMN! I gotta dig out my I-WAR 2 now! Dang you for reminding me what a great game that is! ) :lol

I have such fond memories of Warbirds... I've always wondered what happened to it. I played Warbirds 2 for a bit, mostly offline H2H against my dad. I thought about giving it a try but it seems there are only a few dozen people online at any given time. So sad :( I wish our genre was big enough for some lively competition between developers.

Wasn't it though? Man...I had many fun hours with I-war 1 & 2. About a year ago I ran across I-War deluxe where you could play the badguys with their painted ships.
Man...that series was so original...seems like anymore all we get are remakes of remakes. I love WW2 games but...there's a gluttony of them, and only a handfull are worth playing.
Where is our Wing Commander/I-war/Starflight for the 21st century?
-
Im going to buy Lotr online today, i can kiss another 2 years goodbye now i guess (former WoW addict) lol.
-
Tribes -- still a blast since 1998
Holy moly Batman! I used to play the crap outa that game, didn't know any servers were still active. Back in the day before the DSL boom, 2 channel ISDN baby!
-
LOTR is a far better version of D&D Online... which is not really a good comparrison, but hey... Graphics, emotes, combat system, crafting, guilds (called Fellowships for some odd reason :p ) are all done excellently. PLUS, at level 10, you pvp'rs can choose to go bad, or stay the course....

Well, to start with, WB hasn't anywhere near the numbers you see consistently in AH2. Usually double digits in most arenas and the art is baddly in need of updating. Despite having access to three diiferent games in WB (Armored Assault WW2 tanks, FLYBOYS formerly Dawn of Aces, and Warbirds itself) I believe that over all, AH2 is the better product. And to think they're essentially the same game, but oh how their paths have diverged. :O

*digs around the "I forgot" box....* Ah-ha! Now I get to watch Wing Commander on DVD tonight while I-War 2 loads, after searching for I-War Deluxe... *Dangnabbit man, why'd you tell me we could fly the enemas spaceships? ...sighs Wonder if my son will give back the old PC so I can play WC again?

But I've been around long enough to remember games back to the mid-80's. I still *have* a lot of them around here.
Compare the EIDOS/HotHouse "Cutthroats" from 1999, with it's simple 2-d graphics and sprites to the new Sid Meyer's "Pirates" : "Pirates" looks a lot better, but the game play in "Cutthroats" has more variety and was able to hold my attention for years compared to "Pirates".
Heck, even an old game like "7 Cities of Gold" (1993, EA) had better gameplay than some games that come out today.
Other old games I can remember would be: "M1 Tank Platoon" (Microprose - 1998), "Shadow Company - Left For Dead" (UbiSoft - 1999), "Crusader" and "Crusader - No Remorse". The "Fallout" series. Todays games look better, but the gameplay and content in many games seems to actually be getting smaller.
And they don't always look better today: I prefer the cartoon graphics of the old "Interstate '76" to the crowded, busy terrain in a modern "AutoAssault".
When they announced Star Trek Online, I spent time in the forums there discussing the possibilities. I played Pen and Paper games such as GURPS and AD&D, Frontier, and Star Fleet Battles. I and others saw a lot of potential in that franchise, but then official word started to come down: just another leveling grind machine. No walking the desks of your own starship (3rd person external view when in space only). Looks like an MMOG version of Starfleet Command and Elite Force combined. Emphasis on combat vs AI's.
The concepts behind GURPs "Transhuman Space" and "Frontier 1859" are what I'd *like* to see developed for MMOG play.... but I seriously doubt either will ever see the investment to see the light of day.
All in all, the gameplay and content of todays games are not all that different than those developed for 286-based computers years ago. AI's a little better. Graphics a huge improvement. Online play has advanced. But the actual content still lags behind.
-
Far Cry really rocked IMHO.
I still do a little Call of duty.
Sid Meyer's Pirates brought me some happy hours.
The good old Commandos also did.
But AH survived them all ;)

GURPS has been shelved for now, but Frontier 1859 is actively seeking funding. (proud to be part of the F:1859 concept team , and can say no more :D )
Some of the newer CENEGA UFO: After--- series play like the old Fallout games... which I still enjoy.
Star Trek: Online is nearing Invite beta, or so I hear. And you can walk around the decks, or transport to planets, and even end up Captain of your own ship, or division head of one of the sections, like Medical, Engineering, Security.... So far, this one looks pretty good.

Give me a revamped, graphically-updated, bug-fixed Fallout2 and I'd be set for the next 6 months.

Hey, Engine... you know about AlephOne, don't you? :)
Brought back lots of old fun and memories. :aok

Always wondered why they never took I-76 to the big world of MMO? It was perfect for that, once you got the punkbuster working. Didn't care much for the sequel, but man those heavy metal rods were something, and the physics was fandamntastic for its day!

Yeahhhhh. I heard they were making Fallout3 of something but had to start from scratch? That's why I'm playing the UFO series...
UFO: Aftermath (http://www.ufo-aftermath.com/pages/headquarters.html), UFO: AFtershock (http://www.ufo-aftershock.com/pages/hq.html) and UFO: Afterlight (http://www.ufo-afterlight.com/pages/hq.html) They just keep getting better.

Only starship decks you have access to will be the "Hubs", starships which act as cities do in most MMOG's; not player controlled. You can Captain your own ship, but no interiors. They are more like mounts in other games, only view is external. Flight is 2-D environment.
STO will be to Star Trek as SWG was to Staw Wars. A resounding "thud" as the curse of Star Trek computer games once again rears it's ugly head.
-----
I hope Frontier 1859 get's the funding. It's a great concept. A western MMOG that is not centered on only combat. But every MMOG that comes out that is touted as "revolutionary" and "taking a new direction" isn't, and doesn't. Everyone wants the next WoW or EQ, and that's what get's funded.

War in the Pacific <--Monster Strategic/Operational(land,air,sea)
Take Command - 2nd Manasas <--Civil War Operational/Tactical
Combat Mission (all 3) <-- Tactial WW2
Crusader Kings <-- Medieval Strategic/Political

-
Toca Race Driver 3, great from box, but offers free online interactive through gamespy. TONS of cars, on REAL tracks(nurbering, mid-ohio, laguna seca, many many many others).
-
ok, get this....
imagine a first persn shooter with crisp and good looking graphics and physics. two teams wage war on endless 32 player servers and maps with everything America's Army offers in weapons, visuals and action.
now imagine that some genius put jeeps, tanks, flak wagons, assault ships, motobikes, blackhawk choppers, and pretty much anything else you could want to kill people with in the game to make what is already a supreme first person shooter into the best capture the flag team death matches available on the net.
did i mention its totaly free unless you want gold membership.
so you got this incredibly addictive and acrcade style but quite realisticly modeled fps game, for free.
then....
imagine they let you have one of these...
...with mini-gun on one side and a nice little hvr pod on the other leg.
yes thats right, there are people running around on the floor playing a conceptualy better version of america's army with thier M4s and AKs...and you get a minibrid to patrol in, if you can fly them
check out http://www.warrock.net if you want.
i should get at least 4/5 stars for sales pitch.

I've played that game a bit, but for some reason it's really buggy for me. I can only manage maybe 3 turns before it crashes...and you know how long a single turn can be! I got so frustrated I finally just gave up and am waiting for them to finish Carriers at War.

Thanks for the link Batfink. I'm going to give that a try.
-
no problem dude, if you sign up keep your eye out for '0fink00' im usually hovering around on the london UK or US east coast servers.
PS: theres a little bit of hacking and mouthy teenagers every now and then but you can just quit and find a new game host or server, sorta like AH2 free 8 players mode.
-
No worries, I was a serious Counterstrike player for a long time. I'm used to idiot internet kids. :)

War Rock has one of the most infuriating registration requirements I've ever seen. Every single whoopeeed thing I've entered isn't good enough for this stupid site. KOTOR2 The Sith Lords. Been playing around with the mods, which is a hoot.
and Oblivion The Elder Scrolls IV.

About 6 months ago I installed a crapload of DOS games.
Im still playing through Advance Dungeons and Dragons Gold Box Series.
Panzer General is still fun. I guess I'm a SSI potato.

I still play Rome: Total War also. I am currently using the Extended Greek mod. Every time you try another mod, it's almost like a new game again.
I also still play AH and EverQuest.
Panzer General is still fun from time to time also. I just finished a Rommel campaign and won every battle with a Major Victory. Third scenario from the end and I had 3 King Tiger units. :O I've never had more than 2 at one time before, and usually just one.

Hey batfink, whats the stick support like, and view options (can you map view controls to stick axis?)
-
unfortunately not, all flying is done with a mouse. This is perfect for a helicopter though, using keyboard for rotation and mouse for pitch.
joystick patching is possible if you read up on the player-made FAQ at the warrock forums, but i havnt tried it.
there are no views except external chase and internal cockpit HUD, you cannot pan or snap view, but it doesnt really matter for the type of gameplay.
this game used to be great, but recently i havnt been able to enjoy it, there is serious lag issues and the community is worse than offensively childish. makes the AH2 community look like heaven even with the agro we do get at times.
definitely worth a try out, this game wont satisfy many people for more than a few months, maybe a year if you get good connections and no bugs.
when its a good game, its amazing fun.

Stalker +++++
Ace High 2 ++++
Delta Force Extreme +++(Easy to modify, build maps/missions)
Medieval Total War +++ (the original not 2)
C&C Generals/Zero Hour +++
Just tried AlphaPrime +++
Ran it for a week, finished it, removed it.
Its ok but its not close to stalker IMO. 3 out of 5 stars.
I'm on my 3rd time through the Stalker single player campaign.
Each time going up a step in hardness.
I've hit most of the good possible endings (yes including the secret door)
So this time I've decided I'm not going North. I'm just going to prospect around rostov. Take loops up through freedom territory, Dark Valley, & Yantar.
After all, choosing to not end a game is an ending of its own, sort of. :)
