Keep us updated on that peice as im looking at the same one for myself or the pt 1911 http://www.shootingtimes.com/handgun_reviews/pt_080505/
and trying to decide on one for the wife , A ppk ,Taurus PT 911 or also the XD in 9mm any suggestions?

I like my XD 45.. however your wife may carry in her purse. The XD does not have a on/off safety as many pistols do, when you grip the gun and depress the secondary tab on the trigger... the safeties are off. If you carry with no round chambered this is fine...... but a few old timers like to have a round in battery for quicker response. I suggest going to a range with the little lady and letting her try the three you have your eye on and see which fits the bill.

I rented an XD 9 not long ago. Liked it. Much better implimentation of the trigger of how glock does it IMO.
Shot VERY well, though I couldnt stand the grip safety.

I have the Taurus PT911. It shoots pretty nice. However, I keep it very clean, but it still will stovepipe once in every 200 rounds using regular Remington 9mm. That gets a little annoying. That said, it's never jammed when I've been practicing with the glazers I keep in it for home defense.
Personally, I went with a small Taurus .38 (2" barrel) for my g/f's concealed carry. It shoots very, very well. I actually shoot better groupings with it on single action than I do with my 9mm at 15 ft. Not quite as good as my 9mm using double action, but it does have an exposed hammer which I prefer.

Keeler, I'm curious, is price also an issue? I know that the Springfield XD is pretty affordable, Being lower in the price range than alotta .45's on the market.
I'll also put in a plug for the Ruger P-345. I got one about a year and a half ago, and I've been happy with it ever since. It's accurate, easy to strip and clean, it's compact(with a 4.2 inch barrel, even) It's light, and it fit's well in my hand. It also has an accessory rail for things like a mini-light, aim-point, etc. Plus, the price when I bought it, $415 before tax, background chec, etc. fit my budget nicely.

Glock 26. One of the best all around carry guns, especially for a smaller handed user.
Glock 36. If 45acp is a carry requirement.

The only things I hate about my Para-Ordnance are the magazine release; It's sort of touchy & is quite prominent. It will drop the mag on you if you're not used to it. And the double stack .45 magazine is bulky so it's hard to conceal.
A wheel gun is still the most reliable weapon for CCW imo, although my uncle just bought a new Wilson Combat polymer dealy bopper in 9mm (I think) much more affordable & light weight than their previous offerings & Wilson Combat makes the best there is in reliability for semi-automatics.
As far as holsters, that's a matter of personal choice & comfort. The guy I did my CCW training with uses a nylon belly holster & button down the front shirts. Not for me but my dad likes that set -up.
Edit: I would go for the .44 Bulldog Pug for a female. I think it's made by Charter, plenty of stopping power, slender grip & manageable for a woman who is less than comfortable with a weapon.
Here's a write up on the Pug:.44 Special Bulldog Pug (http://www.gunblast.com/Bulldog_Pug.htm)

my bud has a compact glock..a full side glock and a sub compact glock...i shot them all...good guns...but he got a sub compact xd..which he didnt want..he got it in a trade...well..it felt better and shot just as well as the glock..and just as reliable...i think the xd is a better fealing gun over all..plus the sub compact has a light rail..the sub glock doesnt

Price is an issue with her
We looked At the Glock but she didnt like the trigger only safety I really didnt care much about it either, She also dont like the snubs Lookin like Think the XD 3" subcompact 9mm She dont like the PPK I wanted A ppk myself :D
S&W M&P Compact looks pretty sweet also
Whats the Warranty on XDs?
-
honestly..if there was any new gun i would buy right now..is the sub xd....good priced and great shooter:)

The Wilson Combat pistol I was referring to & called a dealy bopper is the ADP & can be read about here: ADP (advanced design pistol) (http://www.wilsoncombat.com/new_adp.asp)
I have fired many Glocks & although they are a nice pistol, I can't get behind them. I don't know why but I just hate the way they feel from the trigger pull all the way up. They are accurate and all but I just don't like them.
Edit: believe me when I tell you Wilson Combat is the way to go with a CCW weapon that you're staking your life on.

Very satisfied with my 4-inch barrel XD .45 ACP. Springfield XDs have limited lifetime warranties for initial retail purchasers.

Can the Xd handle the 45+p in the 4" service model

You might Google around to check that. Here's a post I found:

I just bought my XD-45ACP and wondered if it could handle the hot loads, it doesn't say anything in the manual about it. Thanks

I e-mailed Springfield Armory with that very question when I got my new XD. Here's the answer they sent:
"Due to the fact that our entire line of XD pistols features fully supported and ramped barrels, using +P and +P+ ammunition will not damage your gun. However, we do recommend that you make sure the ammunition is American made and is in new condition. Due to the increased power of +P and +P+ ammunition, the cycling of your XD may be affected by this different ammunition. If you are planning to use +P or +P+, we recommend that you fire it extensively at the range before relying on it for concealed carry or self defense. It is important to ensure that it will run reliably in your XD. Although +P or +P+ ammunition will not damage your XD, a steady diet of this higher power ammo may decrease the service life of the barrel and/or firearm."
Maybe there exists a heavier set of springs that will allow for better cycling/longer wear with +p loads, I don't know. I haven't shot any +p myself but I've tried several types of ammo in standard pressure and it has been so far perfectly reliable with everything I've put in it. If you do try out some hot loads in this gun will you let me know how it shoots?

any of you guys use those "clipit" thingies? I have em on a couple of guns.. they are clips on the guns like on folding knives that allow you to clip the gun to your belt... no holster.
Not the most secure method in the world but not bad either.. seen holsters that launched guns worse. When you just need to grab a gun for some reason and not show it tho.. they are pretty neat. Have on on my Kimber 45 and one on a makarov.

Halo,
That was a great response you got there. I would have expected the usual take it easy standard loads only kind of reply.
As far as mitigating recoil slide action you can look into recoil buffers. I know they make the slip on kind that stops bare metal to metal contact when the sldie reaches travel limits. I don't know if they still make them but my old Mk4 has a buffer with a spring inside a spring housing and a pin that makes contact to help slow the slide down at the very end. This fits inside the standard recoil spring. I have found it to be very good at slowing the slide before it gets to the end of travel.

One of my cop friends had this little gun down at the ranch.

Really nice little carry pistol. His was a 9mm and i would love to pick one up if I could find one for a good price. My glock 19 works great for my back pack on bow hunting trips.
-
BTW if anyone is in the market for a 1911 this STI is great for the price around $600....

nice looking 1911:) my cousin got the rock river 1911..it shoots pretty good and i like the cheap gi springfield special with the gi grips for 450 too 480ish new:) what a deal i think.

Where does the belt clip hook up on the Glock?
-
right on the back. right under the slide i believe...2 bolt holes on the back of the gun it attaches to. i didnt really look too hard at it.. but looked fairly easy to install and they fit tight
and you can get a glock clip at just about any gun store:)
-
The one on the Kimber goes between the frame and the grips and adds like a 32nd of an inch to the thickness of the gun.
Anyone shoot the new taurus 1911 yet? seems a good deal for $600 has more features than the sti and doesn't use crap mags like the sti or springfield 1911.

Same place you just need a duct tape.

Don't laugh... I used the "double sided tape" they gave me for the makarov instalation.. they swear it will never come loose on it's own and have some very impressive guarentees to go along with it.
