Are they filming Prison Break Season 3 in Iraq now?

I have no idea, I've never seen it.
-
Very Cool VWE. Thanks for serving over there, who are you with? (if you can't answer, I understand)
[Funny thing is when I talk or email to the guys in my congregation who are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, I'm not supposed to mention what country they are in. I've always wondered how that increases Operational Security. ;) ]
- Seagoon
-
I'm in the Army Seagoon (4-5 AMD out of Fort Hood) but attached to the Navy. http://c-ram.org
-
I know this is an outside shot, but given that you are Army attached to the Navy in Baghdad, you don't happen to know a fellow by the name of ***** ****** do you?
- SEAGOON
EDIT: Actual name deleted in case I'm not supposed to be revealing that kind of thing online.
-
Doesn't ring a bell, he's not part of C-RAM... any idea what he is doing over here or where he is at? For example I'm at Camp Victory...
-
No, he's not part of C-Ram, he's a small arms instructor with the Navy. Does courses for the Naval personnel deployed throughout Iraq including most of the bases in the Baghdad area. I just asked on the outside possibility that he might have done a course for the Navy guys in your unit.
He's home now going back in a little while.
- SEAGOON
-
You mean they actually give some Navy guys guns over here?
-
That's the rumor... Unless of course he's been trying to tell me he trains people whose limbs never grew to the normal size. :D

Camp Victory? Uhhh....hmmm.....not sure if my son was there his first tour or if he is there now, can't recall the name of the other Camp. I am so bad at remembering this stuff. I'll ask him again which camp he is at this time.
-
I work over in Liberty and travel out to Stryker which is where all the Airforce peeps are. Also been to Slayer once and will go back but that's usually a weekend deal when the Blackhawk bazar is open.
-
VWE
Keep up the good work and stay safe.
-
Sorry if it seems forward to ask.
Curious.
What are your first hand impressions about whats going on over there?
And stay safe

Ditto---and good luck as well

He's at Camp Stryker this time around.
-
Well tell him to sleep in the bunkers, Stryker has been pretty active lately and is the only place I've been shot at so far. I know its not the best thing to hear but just trying to be honest with you. Though that is also where all the "attractive" women are. Where I'm at the saying goes 'an Army woman doesn't have to be pretty, just patient' and I've only seen patient women since I've been here.
As far as first impressions go... holy cow! I could not even have imagined the size of the operation going on over here. Its easy to see how and why the Army is feeling drained. If any of y'all have been to Fort Hood in Texas and driven along "Hell Bender" drive and seen the miles and miles of motor pools then you can some what picture this complex I'm on. And this is just one of the areas the Army has established.
As far as my personal oppinion as to how things are going? We occupied Japan for 9 years after WWII, this place still needs time to adjust and I fear the erroding support at home will not allow us to stay through that trasition. And that would be a shame for all that have served and died over here

God bless you for the service you perform for those in our nation who will never know, let alone think of the sacrifices the military personnel give to keep us safe, and free.
May He keep you and yours rich in all things.

Better yet, let them know we ALL support the troops.
Eagler, there is no special club you have to belong to.

is that the same ALL who refuses to quickly give them the funds they need to do their job as safe and as quickly as possible without trying to make a bogus political statement out of the entire thing? Is that the same ALL who wants nothing more than Iraq to go down in history as another Vietnam?
sorry rpm - your ALL is NOT an ALL at all.
And the troops know it ...
-
Nice attempt at a political hijack. I'm here to support the troops, not a political position someone told me is right.

Uploaded a couple more pics and 1 video.

Ah yes, the old "2/10" deployment scale of attractiveness: if shes a 2 at home, shes a 10 while deployed.
-
I think there are some 5's here but they fall far below who is waiting for me to return home. Posted a video of the Palace fish I took this morning...
-
Uploaded 6 new videos this morning, 5 I took while driving to my radar site... gives you a general view of what I see while traveling here.
-
Left BIAP for good this Feb, Lived on Pad 13 on Liberty. Those palace fish are a trip aren't they? The funny thing was the year before I lived on Pad 14!!! :) You take care of yourself and get home Safely.
-
My radar site is right next to pad 12 on the corner of Stransky and Ella but my trailer is over in Victory Village. I'm keeping my head down and only leave the wire when I'm forced to. Though when I leave its by helo and at night, 2 Rino buses that left for Taji on Saturday morning got attacked and one was destroyed by an IED. The natives are getting restless...
-
Yeah, I used to travel by Convoy when I had to go support folks over at Justice, Falcon, Etc, Was very glad the Unit allowed me to carry over there when I traveled. You must Know some of the 2-1ID guys pretty well then huh? That's who I supported when I was there.
-
I know a couple, I'm a 94M... if your old school you'll know me as a 35M.
-
well, I'm not that old school, i enlisted in '98 as a 54B spent most of my time with the Infantry in 10th MTN in 1st Brigade. Got out 6 years later as E-6. Then became contracter dealing with the FBCB2/BFT system. Went over there twice. This last time was just too much burden on family so when i came back for R&R I gave my notice. Unfortunately you guys can't. I wish you a safe and fast return. Was just talking to some of the 2-1ID folks earlier on Yahoo. They wish I was back and sometimes I do too, but I had to do what was best. When you run into them guys and girls tell them Bryan said Hi. ( their old BFT FSR)
-
Your in a better place, stay there... I'll let em know next time I have to go. If you have not heard this it is quite prophetic http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=be7_1177813344

Forgive the intrusion again.
Perhaps I should have phrased my question better or at least defined it better.
When I asked of your impressions.
I meant on how things are going as opposed to how they get reported by the media, and/or praised or whined about here by our politicians?
Is the situation there as good, or as terrible as people are saying?
All we know here and allwe can base our opinions on is what is reported to us by the Media of the political idiots on washington.
I''d personally rather hear it from someone who truely does have a front row seat and is involved rather then simply observing.
With respects intended

Best of luck and here's hoping you and all your brothers in arms are home soon.

What's your myspace page?
Skizz & I are here at Fort Hood too. He retired from 1st Cav a couple of years ago after two deployments. PM me your mailing address ~ we'll send you a care package or two. =) And I'll have my sons send you pictures (they'll look about like your avatar). They're real proud of you & your guys too.
Take care,
TxMom

x0847Marine As yes: "2/10 rule". "Princess for a Year". Bet all the porta-potties still have the same old yarn on them near each deployment end: "Hey Army Chicks, How's it feel to be going home and being ugly again?!" Soldiers can be so cruel.
My BN had at least 1 female (somewhat below 2/10 rule) prostituting herself in-country.....when she got pregnant, she turned in a list of over 20 potential fathers. But, hey, they put a bunch of soldiers in a trailer park, what did they expect?
It's really funny in general, and I bet the Iraqis on post got a kick out of it. Female soldiers with male harems following 3 paces behind. Females for some contractors making a lot of extra money on the side. The internet has many examples of military females in country and girlfriends/wives back home posting or sending home made porn back and forth, and it becoming spread among the general population (actually, that happened with a female LT in my BN too....).
The most attractive females I saw over there came from a Southern California Marine Reserve Unit on it's way to Fallujha.... we crossed paths in Victory (South), Kuwuit in late 2003, early 2004. They were present in large numbers too. It was surreal.
Spent much of my time out of Liberty (Victory) from LSA West. Forget the pad number, but it was closest to the DFAC (on the same side of the road). Had a half dozen palm trees transplanted in front of the BN HQ (prima donnas, "Palm Tree Battalion"). We occupied before KBR was done. No power, no DFAC, no water. First to occupy LSA West. We took over for the 1457th EN from Utah. Also spent 3 months up in Taji, Camp Cook (at Camp Tomahawk) on convoy escort duty for EODT. Much preferred duties, mission, and living at Taji than Victory (Liberty).
Odd to hear Stryker is hot these days. LogBase Seitz was always taking hits when I was there. Guess it makes sense, since sniper activity is on the rise, and IIRC, there are some areas that can overlook Stryker.
VWE, the "What Ever Soldier Should Know" is a pretty good start. There's a lot more of course, but that was far better presented than the indoctrination briefs we ever got at Ft. McCoy, Wolf, or Victory South back in early 2004. Hope they do a better job these days.
DREDIOCK, can only speak from my experience, but what is seen in western news has never accurately depicted the reality on the ground. And as VWE stated, it is very hard for people to understand the scale of the operation unless they've seen it in person (flying above Baghdad, Taji, and BIAP on a couple occasions was an eye opener for me, who was generally doing convoy escorts).
You can get some glimpses of the life inside the wire (a smaller glimpse of outside) from specials such as "The War Tapes"(and the 172nd NH NG going back!). "Off To War" (and the 39th ARK NG going back for a sequel!)....guess having negative comments in your film documentary makes for a short dwell time and return to combat sooner for Guard/Reserve...... "Gunner Palace" and such. (The 172nd and 39th were in Taji about the same time I was there, so watching their documentaries bring up a lot of memories).
For what's happening now? Look to many sources: Army Times not too bad a source. Specials from reporters in Country. The Baghdad Blogger and other online presence in the Internet can give you a glimpse of what life is like outside the wire in general terms.
Up to date accounts though? That's tough. Most PMC have been disarmed (unless under DoD or DoS contract in Iraq), awaiting for new carry permits from the Ministry of the Interior (same one's directing some death squads), and last I checked, they have given NO carry permits out. Those PMC's were the one's guarding reporters, some private contractors, and NPO's in Iraq. So actually, we are in a worse position to get news from Iraq now than in the past, in many cases.
You have to view everything through a filter though. Separate the wheat from the chaff. If you are looking for a clear cut, honest, accurate view, you will go wanting.
A lot of good does get done by forces in country, but a lot of harm comes from it too. Building a school for children doesn't mean much if insurgents come by two weeks later, drag the teachers out into the courtyard, and execute them in front of the students. Frustrated, tired soldiers operating in a vastly different culture under hostile conditions has led to many clashes with the local population. It seems that 50 good deeds can be undone by 1 mis-step in Iraq.
Even with the surge, I don't think they'll have enough bodies to get the security that is needed to give Iraq time to stand up. Not in a short time period anyway. Took America 13 years to pull it together after the Revolution, and America was not nearly as fractious as Iraq.

Is the situation there as good, or as terrible as people are saying?
Dred, for me that's a real tough thing to answer seeing how limited my contact is. I think its better than is being reported but there are places here on this base where I can and sometime do get pot shots taken at me. Unfortunately there is still a sizable portion of the populace that just wants to sit on the fence and don't seem to care how this thing turns out even though its their lives at stake.
The other odd thing about the middle east, if they see it on the news then it has to be true. I kid you not, they believe that the press is just reporting it exactly how it is. Its a real tough thing to convince a nation that they finally have a say so and its not just business as usual. Now throw the Al Jazeres and CNN's into the mix and you take 3 steps back for every one step gained.
I personally try to stay out of anything political on this bbs concerning this war and not choose a side, politically speeking I'm conservative. If we want there to be some type of stability in the middle east we cannot leave. For better or worse we are here, except that. If we pull out now we will be back, your childrens children will die over here. Lets finish what we started, give us the time we need and lets take care of this on our watch. Closing our eyes and turning our backs won't make this problem go away.

VWE Just hunker down Bro and Drive On.
