Raised the price of subscription BACK to $29.95 per month, would you still pay to play?
I like to immagine that most of the HO-tardlets are usin mommies CPU & credit card to play, and that the price increase might be a good way to cull the herd. Anyone that has been around long enough to remember the days of 29.95 per month, prolly remembers the diff in gameplay as well-
Personally I thought it was worth 29.95 for the graphics & plane choices that were available when that was the actual price. Plane choice & graphics both greatly improved since then, but gameplay declined IMO.
Whats your opinion on the subject?
-
Cull the herd?
Heck. Lower the price to $10 a month and triple the herd!

Yep, I love a target rich environment.

My opinion, someone is trolling for a PNG.

With three growing boys, the usual bills, and a not-so-great income after I had to quit my contract tree-trimming job, I'm afraid I'd have to quit until my youngest son enters school, and my wife could then work.

instead of trying to get rid of the tardlings, why don't you try and teach them?!?!?!
that's what's wrong with this community, people not doing their part to keep the community going! not all the new kids with no clue!

Lower it to 9.95/month and they close the doors at IENT & Fighter Ace and the servers will reach capacity quickly.

I don't think this went how he thought it would.

There's a lingering, misguided notion that people with more disposable income have more class, integrity, intelligence, and better physical attributes, and are just all-around better people.
Ironically, its biggest proponents are people who seem to lack those qualities.
-
This game is way to cheap......
I remember paying per hour back in the day......
$50 a month to play?
come on guys u know it's worth it???????

$1 a day is worth it if you can already afford to eat and you're playing a fair amount... It's not really justifiable if (obviously) the former is not so, or if you're not playing that much/at all.
A lot of guys opt to keep their accounts open even when they know darn well they won't be flying for awhile. I don't think as many would with that price, and I do think there are quite a few people who fit in that category.

Anyone play Warbirds or Fighter Ace? I didnt even know Fighter Ace existed
The screenshots look subpar. Anyway, always interested in knowing what other SIMS do good and not as good in... so if you have some feedback, I would like to hear about it.

I think the price is right. Like someone else posted, the reason gameplay may be deterioriating is because the community is deteriorating. While we have a lot of "noobs" that come into this game with no intention of improving their skills, we do also get a good influx of the ones who truly want to improve (regardless of age, I know a few teenager noobs who act a lot more mature than some of the older crowd in this game)... in fact, all of us were at some point a noob wanting to improve. Most of us were lucky to get a vet interested enough in providing us a little help to keep improving (thanks AH trainers :aok ). Its our turn to do a favour to ourselves and the community and teach some of the noobs how to become better players and members of the AH community.

Play? H*ll I'd love to get to play but my schedule hasn't let me play for several months....but yes, I'd still pay to play at that price point.

How much will you pay me to tell you? :rofl
Is it worth $29.95? Yup.
Would I pay $29.92? Tough call...probably but I bet HTC would lose a LOT of subscribers.
Why are you asking?

Good point Vudak-

Atoon..
short answer is yes
-
considering that honorable gameplay has diminished just as steady as the player base has risen, decreasing the player base was precisely my point. When the game was new, there were many exploitable bugs, but not many cared, cause the fun was in the fight. Now consider todays exploitable bugs....
I didnt expect this post to go any particular way, but it is going a very long way twards proving that the rules of posting here, seem to only apply to certain situations.

A punk is just a punk. No matter how long they have played , or how much money u make u can still be a punk. What the game needs is a decrease of the jerks in the game.

nope

$1 a day ? You'll see a rise in 2 week trials, BIG rise ! I honestly don't think I'd go the $30.

Blooz & Mr Biggles both had good points people.
If your not showing the new folks by both word and deed the proper way.
How do you expect them to learn? If your not putting in a hour in the TA now & then to help educate. How do you expect them to respect you and the time you've put in?
Granted there are some folks flying that probably shouldn't be, and at least half the time they'd be here no matter what price you put on it.
Yes the trainers are on it, but we are just plain folks too. We have a home life & once in a while like to fly a sortie in main same as everyone else.
If you are going to come help out take your cue from guys like Blooz & Morfiend. When a trainers on they wait to see if the trainer will answer first. Basicly they work hard not to step on trainers toes, but are there pitching in when needed. Pointing new pilots to the trainers website, & http://www.netaces.org and answering questions. Besides, the TA is a good place to work on some of those advanced ACM moves. Or just hang out and fly in a non lethal enviorment.
Last, don't impose YOUR personal preferences on their game.
If they ask whats a good starter plane don't push em towards the F4u or the 190. Encourge them to jump in a spitfire and learn to turn first.
Above all be polite, respectful, make sure all answers are correct.

In response to Emu.
I played FA for 5 years 2000-05 I tried AH1 for a week but had issues with 1 the gfx and 2 lost patience with the flight model.
FA is more of a fast paced dogfighting game, action is quicker flight model easier to pick up. The varying flight models can give a false impression level1 arcade or FFA is extremely arcadish plane pulls insane G's and no blackouts. Level 10 advanced is more like AH probably harder than.
In terms of gameplay and player numbers AH wins hands down.
When I left 2 years ago I predicted that the game would die down and close but the hardcore aspect of their community are keeping a stagnated game alive. It will die its death soon enough! When there are more people logged into this forum than in their equivalent of the MA on a friday night prime time you get the picture.
I've come across and helped many others try AH out. Thanks to the new terrain they can no longer say the graphics are better.

I don't play nearly as much as I used to and some months log fewer than 1-5 hours. The game might be worth $30 a month.....but I wouldn't pay it. I think alot of guys are like me that love the game but life issues have lowered our time available to play.
I think Hub said it where raising the price doesn't mean you get a better class of people playing....I certainly would agree with that.
-
listen buddy...
i love the game, heck if i could i would , but i can just barely afford it as is on my tight budjet so..... and i think many people would agree

You know, if it went to $29.95 a month, I'd think that for the first month or so you would see some people hanging on. But, paying twice as much, I think you'd start to see people dropping out more quickly...especially the vets, and the older guys that don't play every night. For example, if you take a 31 day month, and break down the average, that's roughly .50 cents a day. However, you double that to a dollar, and a guy is going to think twice about leaving his account open if he can only get on for about 20-50% of the available time that month. If you only have time to play maybe 25% of the time, it suddenly becomes 4$ a day.The money concious might not stay too long. Plus, Any competition out there would'nt have to worry so much about keeping on par with AH if they kept the price low. A lot of AH'ers would go to the cheaper deal.

Compaired to the cost of other entertainment, HTC was a bargain at $30/month.
I would pay that amount again because of the product quality and entertainment value.
I think the only way I'd quit is if I went blind or suddenly became a quadriplegic, even then I'd try to figure out a way to play.
-
I paid close to $55/month cdn when I first started in AH. Bought money orders, sent em by fancy mail system...
Would I spend $29.95 now.... mebbe
Would it reduce the number of twits... overall probably, would it reduce the ratio of twits to the norms... no
-
No, to answer the original question. Mainly because i look forward to days coming home from school or work and drinking a beer or two and shooting people down. Double the cost and i would have to pick between the two, budgeting sucks.
My question is how has the population changed since the price has been reduced? I mean if the number of subscribers has a little more than doubled since the price went to 14.95 then they are breaking even with what they were making before. And if the population has increased then that means the increase is itself an advertisement by word of mouth.
Is it worth $30/month? Absolutely.
-
Nope. Just not worth it to me. You think the whining is bad now? Raise the price and see what folks start demanding or complaining about. They will expect more and tolerate less.
My $0.02
-
Frode speaks for me. I can't get to fly that often with work pressures and a wife and baby son plus all the other stuff. I can tolerate 15 bucks a month which for me is a mere 10 Euro and only fly once a week or even less at times. If I was still single with no life. I would get value for money at $30 a month. Not any more. It's not about affordability but value for money.
Gulp has it nailed too, If I pay that much I will want top notch graphics and lots of extras. No question.
The simply reality that HTC is a business. It may be a game to us but to Hitech and the rest it's their living. The price is pitched to bring in the punters. That's the reality of it.
-
Honestly, I wouldnt play for 30 a month. I could afford to, but I dont play enough as it is...got too many other online games going on.
-
I do consider the current mentality that seems to have taken hold troubling. I think it's up to us lifer's to try and step up and show the newbies that there is a right way to do things.
I had an exchange a couple days before the last patch made the whole case moot. Someone made a statement about being upset that they had died with a 50+ kill streak going. They went on to say that they got it from hiding their tank in a windmill till someone found them and bombed them out. I tried to explain that it was bad form to exploit a game bug. But was met with the counter-argument that other people were doing it so it must be ok, that is the kind of logic that seems to be the standard. I remember when people who cussed or swore were called out by the other players online. I think the people who remember the "good 'ol days" can make a difference to the younger players it's just going to take some effort on our part.

While I sometimes feel depressed that so many don't care about this, I am always heartened to find that there is a core group of new folks who do. It is worth bearing the "I'll play the way I want to play" remarks in order to meet the "I'm learning by experience" folks.

We have somthing in our squad called the special room!!!

I myself havent flown much in the last 10 months or so due to the fact that the MA has really turned into a verbal argument everytime you kill someone .
I know it's a lame excuse , but i used to love the respect people had towards one another , just a casual or good fight , maybe a "Hey what could i do to counter that ", or "can we go over to the DA so that you could teach me that " . Now its all whine's or people making excuses for losing . I, to the best of my knowledge , have never belittled someone for beating me , I ALWAYS threw out a when i had been beat or said Good Fight . I have kept my account open waiting for the day to get back the desire to play , and to do my little ($15) part to help get CT up and running . Rukee (38Maw)

Perhaps just make it an even $100. You could cull the herd by quite a bit. It would then be the country club crowd and the kids whose Daddy bought him a Falcon Northwest or VooDoo PC to play his games on. I'm sure they would not HO you, being more aristocratic and all.
