Umm... ok... I'll bite... I'm probably going to regret this...

WHY would a P-38M jam radar???

Sheesh, don't you guys know anything?  The radar operator in the back of
the M jumps out with a roll of Aluminum foil and wraps it around the tower!

hey titanic, whats up?

anywho, it was the Lancaster that dropped 'window' which was hundreds of small aluminum strips that were half the size of a German radar wavelength. This effectively jammed the radar showing funny waves all over the screen - but the lancs had to fly together in a proper formation so as not to show up as a tall spike on the radar screen (which displayed a horizontal line that would spike up upon detecting somehting, not unlike heart beat monitors).

P-38M's were modified P-38L's - they carried radar and a rear crew member but never jammed radar.

38M?!!?!?!?!?

We need the 38D, 38F, 38H, 38 with  6x50s mod, 38L superstrafer, 38 for the cvs, and a 38 that can carry 2xtorps first. :t

The first one that did it was named Reynolds and after the war he went on to create a very successful business selling aluminum foil wrap.

We could ask for the Lancaster loadout "Window", which was just  small foil stips that were dropped at altutude to create a large contact and overwelm enemy radar screens.  That could be modeled in AH.

Wonder if they could also model/add something to simulate the difficulty in tracking Mossies with radar.

Wasn't there a special 38 that could carry 2 torps, 10 rockets, 4-1000 lbs bombs and the pilot had the option of tossing a small tactical nuke out of the cockpit if ordnance didn't work out?  I know I read about it somewhere on the internet, it has to be true.

Actually, in all seriousness, wasnt there A P-38 with a plexi-glass nose and a bombsight? It wasnt standard I dont think, but they were used commonly. I know I have a picture of it in one of my books. I can dig it up if you would like?

The Droop Snoop/Pathfinder version of the Lightning is what you're referring to.  It had the glass nose for a bomberdier and bombsite.

:rofl :lol :rofl :lol :rofl :lol

Go grab a book.  P38D was a early model 38 with a 37mm instead of a 20mm.  The 38H was a 38 with the speed of 38J and the turning of 38G.  38 with 6x50s was a field mod.  38L superstrafer was a experiment.  These 38s did exist.  I still dont understand why our 38L doesnt have the tail warning system.

Edit: Obviously you didnt do a deep research...

I think its safe to say that you don't know how to do research.  Just Google the P-38 Lightning.

The tail warning system would be practically useless in AH, i think. When someone gets on your 6 without you noticing it in the first place, you're as good as dead anyway.

I'd rather take the 60" rating for the -L or a 300gal DT
In our current lineup there's almost no difference between the -J and -L unless you want to bomb stuff.

EDIT: typo

Only thing is the P-38D never was produced with the 37mm though the design specs said it was able to carry one.  Guppy corrected me on that point when I also posted once that the P-38D had been produced with the 37mm Oldmobile cannon.

Johny Boy.......much to learn you have.

The 38 Lightning is as much apart of WW2 as the 51, 47, and F4U as well as many more.

Then again maybe he wants an F6C or F6D or even an F6K?
