Don't need a runway, just a pad somewhere
-
That would imply an infrastructure built up specifically to cater to aircraft --- which would mean it would have a runway -- which would be an airport, not a v-field.
It's for vehicles. That's why. The line has to be drawn somewhere.
-
well you can re-arm vehicles at airfields  not fair, just not fair :furious
-
Oh, I agree!!
GVs shouldn't be rearmed anywhere!
-
I seem to recall that at some point way in the past used to be able to rearm planes at vehicle fields, it was tricky but it could be done. and also for awhile there there used to be aircraft you could spawn from vhs.
I wouldnt mind seeing Vehicle hangers with limited aircraft similar to CVs, say HurriIIc and IId, A20, IL2, 110, P47s, P-38G, maybe P-40, P-51B. Use reventments like hangers, put 3 or 4 around the VH, they could be pretty soft targets
-
In "The ARMY" motor pools, and fuel depo,s, and rearmerment vehicles didnt/dont carry 500 pound bombs as a matter of course.
("well you can re-arm vehicles at airfields not fair, just not fair",.. curtosy AIRSCREW)
but the airfield thing raises a question in my mind... perhaps if the vh was slightly removed from the main airfield complex, with its own ammo and fuel depo's?
-
You can have planes and they dont need to have bombs... I could care less about the bombs. dont forget this is a game not real "Army"....
Most VHs are in a way remote from Airfields on some of the maps. It is most unfun to cap an vehicle base waiting for bombers to come to take out VHs. However having a limited plane set at a vehicle base would make it possible to have some kind of defense against other aircraft attacking vehicle bases
-
yes but the question is "why cant we rearm planes at Vehicle bases?"
currently if you take 500 pound bombs....expend/drop them, and rearm, you get ammo, fuel, and more bombs...its a constant.... so NO Im not for rearming airplanes at vehicle bases.
-
The only AC that should be able to be spawned from GV Bases is Piper Cubs or other types of light recon planes
GV bases whould however IMO have re-arm pads for GVs

Not to mention modt GVs didnt run on aviation fuel ;)

Well in the Clint Eastwood movie "Firefox", a super Mach 3 fighter landed on the ice (laugh), was refueled by a sufaced sub (laugh) re-armed and took off again (laugh) with no issues!
And c'mon, if its on TV or the movies, it HAS to be real, right?

LePaul
are you saying putting a rearm pad at a vh will make the game unreal?
psst
it's not real now :)

I believe FesterMA had a bug that allowed Hurri2Ds to take off from VHs. Otherwise, you can just drop some supplies before you leave, then spawn and you have the supplies right there.

vehicle base = vehicles
air base= airplanes and vehicles
wtf?
I think V bases are remote from airfields for a reason.

wishlist anyone?

I could be mistaken, but I believe that was intentional.

It would be nice. Most air to air defense at a Vehicle base, when there is any, is by other GV types from what I see. The "Air Combat" guys don't generally fly to defend a GV base. They wait until it falls and then holler because enemy GVs are now headed to an airfield.
-
What if the vehicle bases had a re-arm pad, as well as an ammo bunker and a fuel bunker off to the side somewhere.
If you destroy the fuel and ammo bunkers, the re-arm pad becomes useless?
This way if your flying by with your squad and are low on fuel or ammo, and know an air raid is coming to a V-Base, you can land re-arm, and meet them head on.
It would also shorten the front when air fields are more than a sector from the front line.
-
I think someone reported it in the Bugs forum and it was removed shortly after that, but I can't totally recall Hubs.
-
i wouldnt have any re arm pads.for me they are a gamey anachronism.
However i liked the idea of aircraft supplies. Just like vehicle supplies you stop the aircraft close to them and can take them on by clicking the icon.
No repair tho........
-
Actually, I was adding some humor to an otherwise quiet topic :)
I'm all for VH bases...or supplies in general...to be allowed to re-arm any vehicle or aircraft. If the pilot can dodge the landscape, hills, shrubs and trees...and an waiting M3 can dump a supply on him...and the pilot can reup without getting strafed, hitting a tree or slugging something with all that weight....god speed, i say!
But seriously. We need that Mach 3 jet. Of course its a voice activated weapons system only knows Russian. So who knows how to say "Fire Missile" in Russian :)

I know, hehe

Not true, some US tanks had Ford water cooled engines, while others used aircraft radial engines. The M4 Sherman tanks is one tank that comes to mind. The M4A1 was powered by a Continental R974 C4; 9 cylinder, 4 cycle, radial gasoline. While I am sure they didn't have to run on AV Gas, they were fully capable of running on AV Gas.

As far as repairing aircraft that are damaged, I think there should be an option to repair damage. Repair time determined by the amount of damage. It wouldn't have to be on the rearm pad, but could be done on the aprons around the hangers. If a pilot opted for repairs the he would have to stay on the field till the repairs are completed. If a base comes under attack and the pilot exits his plane, then either a kill penalty or some other penalty should be imposed. The real benefit would be in the SEA arenas. Where damaged planes are essentially kills that managed to land.

Several variants of Axis iron ran on 87 octane. Specifically the DB 601 & 605 engines...
Would be handy just to have the ability to refuel those lower octane engines.
