Title: Trainer Aircraft
Post by: frank3 on April 30, 2007, 05:38:16 AM
I was thinking of a trainer aircraft, for training the newbees amongst us.
The idea is an aircraft like the North American Harvard T-6, with multi-steering. So trainer and trainee can both fly it.

This saves newb's alot of time trying to figure out the basic flying manoeuvres.
The trainer can take-off (a hard part for many newu's) and the trainee can try some manoeuvres, if all goes wrong, the trainer can intervene and recover the aircraft :)

I'm not sure wether it should be armed or not, perhaps to teach basic gunnery/bombing/strafing/rocket-firing etc.

EDIT: I thought there should be only 1 or 2 trainer aircrafts in the plane-set

Hehe, darn, forgot about the spitfires...
Nonetheless, I think a genuine trainer aircraft would be appreciated :)

Personally I would LOVE an  AT6 with a switch so I could takeoff, land, show a new pilot a move. Then flip switch, let him try it, flip back etc.

Could be a nightmare to code though.

yeah the spits are the noob planes, but the spit16 is a very good climber, and  has a good low alt performance. but if we had trainer plane it whould have no use in a dog fight.

It could still be used in the training arenas and possible in the h2h arenas with great success for those wanting to get a better grasp on maneuvers without getting beat down in the MA's.

I agree it would be a great addition!
Siskell and Ebert give it :aok :aok

Those T-6 texans fly over our house every memorial day.

Not sure how much good adding a trainer would do in a situation where no one dies when they crash and burn.

What Soulyss said.

Plus if you want to see how a manuver is done you can ride along with a trainer in the TA. Not trying to pee on your parade, but theres way to many missing Warbirds in this sim to waste time adding things like a T-6.

I agree with the "add it" crowd. Some people may find it easier to "ride along" as a maneuver is executed, then take control to try it themselves. The trainer then may ALSO get an easier idea of what the trainee is doing right or wrong and be able to more easily demonstrate how to do it right than when he's flying in a second aircraft than reviewing film later.

even if we get the AT-6, i think that a good pilot can join the "noob" and sees how he flies, if makes a sudden mistake, u can get control from him, and show him the right thing.

Trainer aircraft sound like a real real good idea.

"uhh how do i fly? how i use fla-*KWOOOSH*-umm i died how do i takeoff again?"

That's the main problem, many newu's have problems taking off, and die before they can try a manoeuvre :D

yeah it would be good for training in the training arena, but do we already have a trainer? (cough) the RV8.

We need a trainer aircraft put at the top of the list for additions in AH like we need updated jeeps and RV8's

[cough] Tigermoth [cough]

And, uh, while I think its a great idea, lets first adress the issue of getting the seals INTO the TA first. Ive seen 10 n00bs in the last 3 days log into the MA lost, because they didnt even TRY the TA first...

If you all would have voted for the Polikarpov I-16 like I asked you to you might have had a trainer but no...  The Polikarpov I-16 was produced in both high and low wing monoplane versions, both with and without enclosed cockpits, and in both single and two set trainer versions.  Quite the versitile airframe.

Auto takeoff.  I've never used it, but I hear it will get you in the air unless the CV is turning.

A6M2.  Most docile VSTOL aircraft in the stable.  It will ALMOST take off from a CV without turning the engine on.  You can get one in the air in about 150 feet from a runway.  If you want basic flight training this one is unbeatable.

I suppose I should be embarrassed for using Auto Takeoff even after flying online for 2 years.

Fly any way you want.  Auto-takeoff, stall limiter, La7, Spit XIV.  None of that matters the least little bit if you're having fun.  PERSONALLY I don't like auto takeoff, but that's just me.  YMMV.

The WORST thing you can do is let the horde tell you how you should be enjoying your leisure time.

Auto-take off is a way to safely take-off, but the newer people among us won't learn much from that!
I still think a trainer aircraft with dual-steering would be very appreciated :)
