Skuzzy,
What's your recommendation for driver version for this card that will provide best FR? Also do you recommend the DHZer0point drivers?
Thanks,
Scott

I have a 7600GT. Different beat, but in the same family.
I tried all the drivers, including DHZeroPoint. Stick with Detonators.
For the 7600GT, the only decent set of drivers is the 84.66 set. I don't know if this is true for the 7900 as well, but I would imagine it would be a good "starting point" -- load them and then if you find better drivers later, use those.

Hi Crusty!
What is the difference between 84.66 and later drivers? I.e what has become worse or stopped working?
I fairly happy with the latest driver with my 6800 GT, but I do have a couple of problems still.

The 90-series drivers are mostly pure crap. They force you to use .NET architecture, which drains resources and slows you down, even if you don't want it to. On top of that, they seem to be no better than their predecessors, which have a much smaller footprint.
Only problem is, some cards only take the 90-series (like I bet the Ge8000's require it, as it's probably the only driver recent enough for the newer cards)

I would think that the newer nvidia drivers arent the best for that 6800GT , i'm guessing that they have had their best driver set already written for them . My 7800GT likes the 81.98's better than the newer sets , ive actually benchmarked with 3 or 4 newer sets and still reinstall the old 81.98's for the extra 3-5 fps they give me . GL

Personally I'd like to hear from Skuzzy as the final authority on it.

I know u would like to hear from skuzzy but, I have a 7900GT and I have used 84.66 and the latest. I had no problems with either of the drivers and I didn't see and performance advantage on either driver.
With both drivers my settings were as follows:
1280x1024x32 at 512 texture size
4xAA
In game graphic detail sliders full left along with distance.
FPS 55-75 never falling below 55 even in the trees with 100 fighters fighting it out.

Dogg,
I am also using 84.66 and all your settings except 1024 textures.
I get serious weirdness in furballs, dropping down to 20's sometimes.

I don't think there is any final authority on this. Not even at nVidia. (I've been in driver development, and I've seen it up close.)

Well, as final as it gets. I'd say Skuzzy and crew would know the most about what works best with the program they wrote.

i have a 7900gtx and i just switched back to the 84.40 driver that came with it. was using the 93.77, but felt it was not very stable at times.

I'd take skuzzy's word over anyone's but , he prolly doesnt have a 7900gtx and hasn't tested one in AH . Skuzzy will know which ones will cause problems, but as far as the best one to use , thats something that you or some other 7900gtx user will have to test .
Start with the drivers it came from the factory with and go up from there set by set , it takes time but it helps you and every other 7900gtx user.

The hires eats up a lot of computing power. As a test drop to the 512 textures and hit every furball you can find. It may be that your box is on the edge and those extra fancy pictures of all those planes at the same time are just pushing it over the edge.

I know this I am the middle man here, but I asked SKuzzy about it in an email a few days ago..I had the newest driver from Nvidia ( I have a 7800 FTX) and after looking at my directx, this was his reply...
"Ok, if you switch back to an 8x.xx version NVidia video card driver, the
game will run much better."
That is copied and pasted from the email. Hope that helps

I have the XFX 7900 GTX and went back to the drivers that came with it. Tonight I was about 1v20 against the rooks (that is NOT an exaggeration, but when I start filming the game pauses for 3-5 seconds so I don't have proof) and I never noticed any frame rate loss.
Got 4 of them before I ran into the top of a tree. I was flying between flora to loose the Yak-9U 200 yards off my tail before I lost too many aircraft parts. Didn't have many left.
