Title: Lubbock, TX
Post by: Hawco on May 01, 2007, 11:03:57 AM
Just came back from a  few days working down there, found the place to be full of nothing but friendly people, beer was cheap too, 1.25 for 16oz draft. Food was great and again, prices were really good, Overall, Lubbock was a bit on the quiet side compared to California, but none the less, I'd go back again. Never had any traffic snarl ups, no sign of any trouble anywhere, Just full of decent nice people.:aok

My cousin went to Tech, and worked as a bartender at a local dive. I've been seriously drunk in Lubbock. I sorta remember going out to eat. We just ordered "beef". I was amused by that for some reason, but it was tastey.

Hawco,
I used to live about 1 hour west of there in Clovis NM. Lubbock and that Armadillo town to the north are great places to be!

Even though all of my names have TX in them somehow, I'm not even from Texas.

Anyhow, I gotta agree. There's something special about Texans that I haven't seen anywhere in the US (or the world, for that matter).  They're proud of who they are and where they're from far above any others.  If they're from Texas, you're gonna know it by-golly. (Look, even me: TXMom. I must have been assimilated after having married a Texan).

At the same time, Texans are both the meanest & the friendliest people you'll ever meet.

I was mazed how straight forward Texans are, Being in California, getting a straight answer from someone here is like looking for gold, They're all to busy booking their next appointment with their therapist or ordering soem non fat latte and busy having marital affairs.
In Lubbock, I met people just like me, straight talking, loved it, didn't really wanna come back here to be honest, life was simple there, courteus and respectful people. Your ok with them and they are ok with you- I like that, even bought a few local guys a couple of beers and got the same back in return, then I got one guy called tom on the  Scotch and the rest is a bit blurry, something about kicking a bucket while making Donkey noises i think........

Lubbock, the only place in the world you can be up to your knees in mud during a sandstorm.

I spent a lot of time there working construction. There is a bevy of bored college cuties and cheap beer. Not a bad combo.

Hawco, too bad you didn't stay for Bob Wills Day in Turkey, Tx. Huge party, Texas style.

Glad you didnt come to Austin because you wouldnt be saying that if you had. Nothing but a bunch of phreaks here..... I stick out like a sore thumb because I dont have my tongue, cheeks, nose, eyebrows, ears, butt, feet, hands, and nipples pierced. Its totally different in the rural towns that it in in the larger cities. However I was born, raised and still live in Tx and I still love it none the less. Come back anytime! Just make sure you bring phreak repellant if you come to Austin.

When I was stationed in Abilene and the dust would blow through, people would say here comes Lubbock. I went there once on a deployment.

Fear not, Diablo. 99% of 'em would not even get out of the car if they pulled up to their West Texas farmhouse.

What do you mean it's 35 miles to the nearest convenience store and Domino's doesn't deliver here? Broadband???...:cry

I lived in South East Texas and moved to Austin last year in a career change and it is interesting to say the least. "EVERWHERE" you go in Austin you see homeless people on every street corner or phreaks with metal in every nook in cranny and on every appendage. I am hoping to move further west out to Fredericksburg or the likes soon.

Have you spent time in Fredericksburg? I have, Llano would be a better bet if you looking for that Texas feel.. I will sell you a ranch in Llano and you can live the good life in gods country.. We have 1100 acres on the llano river that we keep up for a older guy and his family. You could call us the regulators of his ranch (: In return we have full hunting and playing around freedom and our own ranch house with a pool.

Born and raised in Austin mostly. Don't live in it but work in it. I hang in the North part. Round Rock actually. Austin is full of Libs. and nuts. College kids galore. Wanna be hippies. Old Hippies. New hippies. Punks. Idiots. Homeless. Rich. Poor. Middle of the road. Its not much different in any collges town ya live in.

Its a beautiful city. Not many I have been to prettier.

GIve it time....Look over the LipRing , eyebrow pierced with a stud in the eyebrow waiter. Austin will grow on ya.

The people of texas are cool, but Golly-geen it's an ugly state physically, and the weather isn't fit for white people.

Places where the weather is too hot for comfort for people who absorb most of their vitamin D synthesising sunlight in their cheeks (it's why whitey has rosey cheeks) are largely populated by brown people, who don't like snow.

Dunno why, but I always seem to end up meeting chicks who would even find my T-shirts to small to wear, have to try and fix that, maybe it's the beer goggles...
Never saw any huge fat chicks in Lubbock, the girls in Texas are mostly cuties.....
C'mom Dicho man, yer girl must have some cute pals lol

My last 4 day kayak trip was on the LLano River. Great folks around there. We had 5 vehicles loaded with gear, dropped off at a low water crossing. Then one person in each vehicle drives down to the ranch where we would be pulling out, on the way we dropped one vehicle at a ranch about 2 days down in case of emergency. The rancher had a hand drive us, in one of our vehicles, back to the dropoff and then we started on the trip. Had a great time. There is alot of open range there and all we did for camp sites is have to move some cattle on two occassions to setup. Love that Hill Country.

We have sat maps of most Texas rivers for Kayaking purposes and we have hundreds of phone numbers of ranches and folks living along the rivers. Folks seem to be happy to help on our trips as support teams... like letting us park trucks at their places. We always throw them some cash but they never ask for any.
