Title: First time shooting Lacrosse
Post by: Ripsnort on May 01, 2007, 11:32:35 PM
Anyone here play that sport? It was my first game, man that is a brutal sport! I'd say its a cross between Hockey and Football (american football, not soccer you Eurotwits! ;) ) That fricking ball is moving! I got luckly about 15 pics out of 230 taken and captured it.  Fun sport. Theres money in Lacrosse, I netted some good cabbage from the "Lacrosse Mom's" in 6 hours of shooting over 2 days (Portraits, team pics, action photos)

Notice how this goalie is smart, putting that shaft between his legs to protect his nuts~!

A buddy and I used to manage the girls' lacrosse team back in high school...

Coach:  You know, you guys don't really need to come to every practice if you don't want to.

Us (With warmups going on in background): OH, we INSIST. :D

Better days, better days :)

What kind of load do you use on a lacrosse?  I use #6s for ducks or geese, #8s and #9s for quail.

You're kidding, of course.  Action shots on the run, shallow depth of field from fast shutter speeds and telephoto lens.

Nice work, Rip.  :aok

That's OK, people still have boxing and UFC as well as TV wrestling. All they lack in those "sports" in relation to hockey is the ice anyhow.

Thanks Halo!
I'm working on landing a big contract with my son's local football team for portrait and team pictures(we already do action photos for them)

I'm again teaming up with another photography business and if we get this contract she and I will be shooting portrait/team pics for 200 football players and about 50 cheerleaders.

I spoke with the VP of operations last night at football sign ups and she and the president will discuss it soon. I have confidence they'll give us the contract since we're already doing alot of action photography for them.

Way to go, Ripsnort.  Now, take a minute and consider this.  You said you were surprised how rough Lacrosse is.  In how many sports do ALL the players wear face masks?

Recommend you add some extraordinary protection for yourself and your equipment.  I remember being knocked over a couple times many years ago and that was photographing just football and basketball games.

I hear ya, the last two years I've been lucky, my monopod was my "protection" and it bent it when the player rolled onto it as I scrambled! :)
