Was wondering...
Allied side has P-38J, P-51B, P-47-11(?)
I've been alternating play between both sides, and it seems that the 109 outmatches the Allied planes... the 110 did better than I expected also...
The P-51B can't outturn a 109 (from my experience) even with flaps at 10deg, neither can the P-47 or P-38... and with the exception of the P-38, the Axis planes are better armed.
Most of my flying is between 8k and the deck...over the last few days I've gotten a total of two kills in allied aircraft, and about eight or nine in Axis...
Was wondering if I could get some input and tips on how to improve my flying in Allied aircraft, because I prefer the idea of flying American aircraft (for some odd reason)... before the map changes., maybe I'm just doing something wrong in the Allied a/c ?
Also, if anyone has some interesting historical info on this particular matchup in 1943 I'd love to hear it, this is a fun map for sure...

Map timeset is Feb. '44. As far as I know the Bpony can out turn the 109G2 with full flaps. In most cases alix planes are better armed with thier 20mms. I'd say when you get on someones six in a allied plane get slow and drop flaps as fast as you can.

My mistake, I looked at first date on MOD....
Alright, I'll try dropping flaps a lil more next time...

you take any german plane and I'll take the 38
we air launch from the NW bases
my guess is you'll lose the best of five

Congrats for the most excellent attitude.
As Eagler says, the 38J probably owns this set. For me, it has always been a difficult plane to fly well, but you should be able to find lots of threads on it. Two things that work well for me: (1) Turn off combat trim when you're in actual combat; (2) Use flaps a lot to help with your turns (horizontal, vertical and all in between), but remember not to pull too hard when your flaps are down - let the flaps do the work for you.
Try the 47s using the air starts. Up around 20k and higher, where their turbochargers really shine, they dominate the German planes. Down low, they make better turn fighters than you would expect. Just remember that going up won't do you a lot of good, and it will take a bit more time to recover lost energy when you need to.
The 51B is a delightful plane to fly, but I don't really fly it enough to offer any good advice. The 109s outclimb it, but nothing is faster and it turns quite well, especially pumping the flaps up and down to preserve energy.
The biggest advantage that ALL of the US fighters have is long-range guns with lots of ammo. Ordinarily I take few shots over 200 yards. With the .50s, I can reliably get hits out to 400, sometimes beyond. I have never run out of ammo in a U.S. fighter.
An interesting match in this setup is the P47D11 v. the FW190A8. Neither is what you would call light on its feet, so it's kind of like watching sumo wrestlers play "Twister."

51B is my favorite allied plane, it's flaps are a dream.

The 110g owns the P38j......except the one that eagler is flying. But generaly i have good results against the Pj.

Yeah I like the P51B a lot, it turns much better than the P-51D... my problem has always been controlling the flaps in a dogfight, I need to work on my timing and how far to throw them down.
Does anyone know what map/scenario is next in AvA...and when it changes?

It was fun trying to get a bead on you in that fight. Your skills are much improved from what I have seen in the past. It do wish it would have stayed between the 47 and the 190. That sneeky 110 kinda ruined it.

No it doesn't. If you run into a P-38J driver that knows how to fly the Lightning and you're in a bf110g, you'll lose 99% of the time. YMMV.
ack-ack

Not if the 110 driver is me:p

If you know how to fly the P-38 (and I do pretty well in it), it will beat most of the Axis AC in this setup IMHO. Of course their are players who are much better than I who would beat me no matter what I fly, but the 38 rocks if you play your game right.
