Title: Sundowner
Post by: FiLtH on May 02, 2007, 08:35:13 AM
I see you are a fan of the Dark Tower. My wife who has been reading them as they came out over the years turned me onto it last summer. I read one after the other. I loved it. There are a couple parts I thought were weird, like the Emerald city bit, and maybe a lil too much ego in the later parts. Also the ending seemed a bit rushed.

Best book of the series in my opinion was Wizrads and Glass. Had that Eye of the Dragon feel to it, which is my favorite King book. Some day I'll return to that world and read em again. I just watched Hearts in Atlantis a few weeks back (read the book last summer too). I cant imagine anyone getting much out of that without first reading the Dark Tower series.

If you want a great series of books to read try David Eddings "The Belgariad".  Simplistic quest plot etc. but really well written and a great read.

Don't bother with the last book.

The first 4 books of the series were amazingly good.  They had King's style of writing, and gritty characters.  Around book number 5, it just started to get weird.  Not weird as in "Cool", but weird as in "Is Stephen King ****ing serious?"

I tried to keep reading after Stephen King introduced himself as a character in his own FICTION novel.  But it was too painful.
