becon will tell you at a glance your internet/game connection

when you lose UDP, it will switch from green to yellow etc....

when reviewing films in the film viewer it is always on.......showing GREEN color I believe ( correct me if I am wrong )

in game if  your connection is stable it most times does not show a color ( greyed out ) if your connection starts messing up the color might light up Green , lose UDP switch to yellow or red..........that is how I always viewed it.....

From the Support/Help link above under the topic Cockpit Instrumentation:

Beacon - Shows your connection status to the host

Grayed out - Nothing wrong
Green - Slight variance
Yellow - Problem exists
Red - Your connection is being lost
