Conservative President of France. Where did the Socialists go wrong? He looks like a young Rocky Balboa in need of steroids and protein shakes...
"He said the US could count on France's friendship, but urged Washington to take a lead in the fight against climate change."
-
socialists vote? why, when they can have more fun rioting?
-
Maybe they realised socialists eventually just end up equally miserable.
-
Perhaps they have realized that a socialist state is subject to abuse resulting in a stagnated economy? Since the USSR proved that even communism ruled by an iron fist can't make productive workers out of everyone I guess they realized their options are more favorable in the other direction.
-
Actually, I'm beginning to think that there is a switch coming in the basic predetermined stereotypes of all political entities.
I.E. Republicans gaining support on college campuses, conservatives gaining support in germany and france, liberals gaining support in spain...
Just as much as the climate fluctuates, perhaps people grow tired of their beloved parties?

How many of you realise we have a conservative president since 1995 ?

...that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

It simply mean I think Cheney (as an example and among others) should be shot dead at the 1st sight.
-
straffo are you suggesting someone should be shot dead because of their political beliefs?

We don't sanction that in the US. You'll find government leaders doing that sort of thing in your socialist/communist countries.
-
Just yanking yer chain Straffo. Surely you'll admit that the recent election reflects a change in the attitude of the average Frenchman, no?

Frenchman? No. Muslim? Yes.
Guess who's taking over the country.

Not ,just because of their action, and there is none in the US political system I despise more than Cheney but well I'm not living here so ...my opinion has no real value :)

Well I don't really know as I voted for Sarkozy each round I'm over biased :D
All I know is (for me) he look to the the best option we had.
Btw we will have the "legislative" in July and we will perhaps end with a conservative president and a leftist Parliament.

I do not think that is ever going to happen. College is a youthful place, and youth is, by nature, a liberal leaning demographic.
I digress..

Strange, that sounds very nazi-like to me :D

A character that says :"Work more, make more money", compared to the France's usual of "Work less, live better". A man that has an history of lighting fires under people's butts, interesting to see if he will keep this trend as a president.
-
I was thinking of this as good news, until I found that Chirac is also a 'conservative', in the French reality

Can anyone point to something evil that Cheney did or said? He gets a LOT of bad press for someone who doesn't talk much

Interesting. Do you have more? I'd like to know more. Thanks.

Ahh the Irony is lost on most. A french man saying a conservative is a fascist and wants him shot dead because of his political beleifs becuase he thinks he's a fascist.....wich is in fact a fascist thing to say or do.

Well, you got that first part right.
But the conservative movement is gaining power through college, and in other places, like the general youth populace.
-
What Straffo said.. Elections have gone back and forth between the bigger left and right parties, but in France's context, the presidency has been conservative for a while now.
Captain, I could get you an english copy of his presidential pamphlet to voters. Or do you want something more specific? It's the first time he is in this position, so although he may have said anything else in the past, that pamphlet is the most recent brief of his public perspective I know of.
I agree with Frenchy. His no BS approach to most things (as far as I've seen) is a good change. I noticed and liked it three years ago, so it may even be genuine rather than strategic. He does really emphasize hard work and rewards.
This too could be just for show, but his stance on immigration and delinquents is almost perfect in theory and practice.
Royal was too mushy.. Shades of Laguillier. Sarkozy comes off as a lot more forthcoming and pragmatic.

Straffo, are you crazy enough to sincerely vote for being ruled by a woman!?
Something is deeply wrong in so-called "Europe".
I was born in Europe and lived most of my life in Europe, but this "European values" simply make me sick. They have a stupid woman as a governor of a city where I was born (SPb) and I prefer to declare myself an Asian. We, Asians, don't make such sick mistakes.
-
It's not women so much as how they are brought up, up to this day.

What is their motive though? Who are they kidding? They are the broke ones who cannot afford health care and tuition. Catch my drift?
"Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains." - Winston Churchill

Moot, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. A brief synopsis of his background and voting history I guess. Thank you.

Who are they kidding? I'm not sure. Maybe some of them were raised that way. Maybe some of them are rebelling against liberal parents. Maybe some of them actually sat down and just couldn't take the liberal bull****.
Or, (and this is the big one), maybe they just believe in republican ideals.
And again, I may be stereotyping, but most of the liberals I've encountered are more well off then everyone else around them. (Most of) Those that can not afford health care and tuition are the ones who believe that it shouldn't be given to them.
But that's just my experience with the 50,000 students at my school. I may be stereotyping.

Let's agree to disagree on this one:aok

I'm not usually a wiki fan but this article is good : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolas_Sarkozy (plus being a lazy bum I don't want to spend my evening typing ;))

true true... :o
American's need to stop viewing the world from our (America's) skewed view on politics, and what is right. Our brand of governing will never work for the rest of the world, as theirs is not suited to us.
Get on with life and get over our differences by learning more about one another, that we can quit stepping on each others toes by mistake.
-
Don't be a defeatist / appeaser. It's not true at all. Straffo only shows a clear misunderstanding of who and what nazi's actually are.
-
Boroda and Laz you guys are too funny...do you actually think women are born stupid or what...
Learn some damn history would ya, before saying something that stupid...
-
did I say women were stupid? I would go so far as to say that womens IQ averages more than mens average with more women in the middle and less at the top and bottom of the scale. Many men tend to be at the bottom or top with less at the middle.
I don't pick leaders by IQ points.

I would suggest the average Frenchman like Straffo, has a far better understanding of what a real Nazi was than you might ever do

Hehe! Nothing says "I lost an intellectual debate because I'm an idiot and now I've resorted to calling you names" better than calling someone/something a Nazi! :aok :rofl

From what I've experienced, about 90% of the entire world doesn't really know what a nazi is. This is due to a BRILLIANT smear campaign to make people think that extreme right wingers are Nazis.
And from what Straffo said, he clearly shows he doesn't know who the Nazis were.

Gunslinger; I couldn't agree more.
It's odd how some people will kill for their beliefs or advocate killing for them, but bash others for doing the same. The death of common sense in this world is going to be the downfall of us all.

First I know better than you would ever know what is a nazi and how they can reduce your family to a skeleton and it's not a knowledge I want any one to share with me.
Second ,I can reformulate my previous post :
your conservatives are on the right of our extreme right
It make them nazi because at this place we only have nazi
Do you understand now ?

lol Bush may say he is conservative... but in reality.. he is not

So your new president is a Nazi because he wants to propose a major tax cut, the first of its kind in modern French politics, abolish the inheritance tax and implement more flexible labor laws?
He speaks of work, merit, authority, respect, patriotism and national identity. He said he would fight against self-loathing, multiculturalism, political correctness and moral equivalence between the forces of good and evil....so that makes him a Nazi?
:O
