Title speaks for itself.
Let's see if the numbers will, too.

Polls don't make things happen.
Want a new map?
Get off your butt and make one.

I think the main issue at hand is that there are several "old" maps that aren't used anymore, have been taken out of the rotation, and those are the "new" maps in question.

Oh sorry, besides the 50 hours of work I put in a week plus commute time and other household duties, yeah it's amazing how I can't find time to make a new map...even if I don't even know how to make one.
Amazing.
-
I voted "Yes". However, rather than just new maps, I would much more like a better, easier way to create new maps, something akin to the TES Construction Set for Oblivion/Morrowind. How feasible this is I do not know, but a user friendly map creation add-on would most definately improve the game.
-
Yup.
It is "amazing" how someone can just snap their fingers and figure new maps will just fall from the sky.
The old maps are out of the rotation obviously due to a reason.
Most everyone would like new maps I'm sure.
Wasting BBS space putting up a stupid poll isn't going to get it done.
-
I just want the old Fightertown map back.
-
Well as much as I like doing skins, it's not good when things like skins and maps are left up totally up to the community.
Sure it reduces the workload for the guys at HTC, but to leave it totally in the hands of your subscribers I think is wrong, especially something as important as maps.
-
yes, the same like 4 maps over and over gets so boring and im gettin sick of em
and i miss fighter town to :cry

Why are you wasteing a time playing a game then? Be thankful for what you have.
-
If you can convince all the new players to want new maps, then youve got a chance. Because for every person that leaves sick of gamepay & stale maps or whatever else-, 10 new players join.
Now eventually there will be a stall in new members, but its not going to be any time soon, not with HTC advertising on nickelodean at 15 minute intervals for 3 hours starting at 3PM daily. So until then, it has been made fully clear, that the PLAYERS are welcome to submit new maps for approval-:aok
-
I keep finding fights no matter what the map. And to be honest I don't even pay attention to what map it is. I look for the largest red dar bar and lo and behold, a fight!
It's just not that complicated :)

Sorry, the fact players can make maps if they want to, is no excuse for the lack of new maps from the game creators.
Whats next?
We have to make the planes, GV's, ships?

Why should WE make the maps all the time, we pay enough money each month, we are well within our rights to DEMAND new maps.
-

I agree Kev.. also why should a paying cust have to be the one to build the maps. It must take a real long time for some one to build a map. Who has time for that?. I`m sure we all have jobs, school, Family life, game time, etc.:O
-
No need for new maps, just get all the old back in rotation.
Pizza anyone?

I..er...I imagine that the people who get bored with the maps are the war winners. Other than the distance between fields, maps don't make much difference if air combat is the goal. How many different maps did we ever have in AW?

it amazes me the stuborness of some people! It really doesn't matter how you rephase a question, or make different posts, I think everyone gets it !
I'm sure everyone can agree we need new maps. Right now all of HTC resourses, as limited as they are, are being put into "Tour of Duty/ Combat Tour". The reason, HT thinks this is a great addition to an already great game. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but seeing as its his company, him may know a bit more than us as to which way to go.
The old "big" maps most likely won't come back. Even with the numbers being unlimited in the old "single" LW arena setup there was a big problem with milk running. sure some of the maps had some great pinch points, but for the most part it was milk run city.
as for "DEMANDING" anything, AAolds, you might as well cancel your subscription now. Nothing makes HTC dig in harder than some "dweeb" demanding he do something. Your $15 allows you to use HTC servers to hook up with the "virtual world" the HTC owns. You don't like it, leave. You can suggest away all you like, but the final answer will always come from HT, get use to it, its his world.

the tour of duty story gets tiring even tho its true.

How many of the maps altogether are player-made maps, and how many came from HTC?
How many player made maps have been submitted to HTC by players altogether? (just to get a ratio of how many of total make it through the vetting process).
Anyone actually know these numbers? I'd be interested.
-
yes more maps
-
I agree we need more maps.
But on a side note; why does everything turn into a argument & bash fest on these boards? Differing opinions are what make the world go round, state your position & move along.:aok

YOU don't have to make it fun, but I like it that HTC has given us, the subscribers, the option to help out and build maps.
To me it doesn't really matter what map we have going, but I wouldn't mind seeing some new maps, just to see what kind of challanges someone could come up with. But unlike others I'm not going to complain about not having new maps everytime we turn around. Had I made half a dozen maps and submitted them, then I think I might have reason to complain, but I don't have the time to put into building one let alone half a dozen.
So I will wait patiently for new maps while flying and having fun on the old ones. At this point thats the only way I can make it fun for me. :aok

I wonder what would happen if I had a poll about making AH free?
In case some of you do not get the post, the free poll has about as much relevance to any of the questions as this poll does.

BINGO! The game is about fighting, or at least was. Who cares where it's at.

That's about the dumbest comment I've ever heard but ok. I'm not sure I understand what exactly you're saying? Why should you make the game fun? Well if you want to be POed about everything and whine then go ahead. Personnally if it reached that point for me I'd quit. Why come to a game only to cry about it? Just play it and have fun. If you're not having fun because heaven forbid, it's the same old map,:O then the problem is you.
-
We had the same map for years in Air Warrior, no one really complained. I'm not sure about Warbirds, having never flown it, but I'd guess it was much the same there.
A new map loses it's freshness after maybe 1 tour on it, and what does the map really matter for anyway? As long as it sets up the conditions for conflict and player interaction, I'm happy with it.
My own view is all of the complaining about new maps is beacuse today's player doesn't much care for the fight, but just for the conquest of chessland territory. Being "stuck" on a map has to be frustrating for said individual, because there must not be any sense of accomplishment always seeming to auger continually for the same piece of real estate.
I'd like to see new maps as well, especially the the ones Fester has in the works, but having new places to fly over, bomb, horde and capture is not what makes this game. It's the fight, and as long as the map provides one for the many friends I have made over years and myself, I'm happy.

Apparently everyone who voted yes in the poll.
Half the game is environment.
If you think no changes of scenery are needed, why don't you try living in a prison cell for a few years.
Exactly.
-
Guess you better get to work then.
Put that big electric box that's sitting in front of your nose to work and crank out a new map.
I can't wait to see it.
Good luck.
P.S. Make it quick. We're all in a really big hurry for a new map.

Maps, layout, terrain do shape the fight. Different maps, different fights/battles - unless you are a pure furballer (and even then distances between bases do matter...)
-
I am a pure furballer. As long as theres planes to shoot down I don't care if it was a map with only water a CVs. And I completely agree with stang, probably why I'm in his squad. Theres no stratigy involved in this game, it's just one big lump of planes against another... errrr wait one big lump avoiding the other. I'm sure there are some really good arm chair generals out there that would do a great job of organizing things and using maps to their advantage. But until game play changes the little generals will just be blowing their own truimpets.

Honestly, is it so wrong for us to want new maps?
Bottom line, the majority is sick of the same 4 maps we always play. We want change.
Who will make the new maps? I don't have a clue, I just want something new.
-
Ain't nothing wrong with wanting a new map.
I want a million dollars but I know ain't nobody gonna just give it to me.
-
If the process was simplified it would make it much easier for those of us who are time constrained to figure out & submit a few. I have tried but I can't get the map editor to work on my P/C. I'm sure it's user error but I've used other map editors in other games with -0- difficulty.
Maybe a tutorial is in order? From someone with the inclination & time to write one that is.:aok

There is already one. IIRC Denholm wrote a rather big one. Look in the appropriate forum for it.
-
I'm sure HTC will add more maps when doing so becomes priority over other things they have in development.
Until then, we can vote/wish/bellyache until we puke.
(I hope, anyway. I've seen the situation where the user base dictates priority to the developer by whining, and it's a disaster....)

"appropriate forum"...I'm sure I must've missed it if there is one because I've read through all these forums. If you know where it is is off hand just spill it.
-
i have never understood why we need mor than one map.
just exactly what difference can it make?
the best map possible, in my mind, would have just three bases, very close together, with 1,000,000 acks and nothing but fighters enabled.
-
Denholm's terrain editor tutorial (http://603sqdrn.collectivelyspaced.com/ah2te2094.zip)
-
Thank you. This might shed some light on why the editor won't work for me.

Someone would whine about how you're not doing what they want.

Looking at the recurring threads about "AH2 should be more expensive to remove dolts and improve gameplay" I think you are probably right...
-
I AM BUILDING A NEW MAIN ARENA... chill.
I submitted the layout to HTC and once I get info on what needs changing as I went overboard on my design for tank town gv routes I will alter it as necessary and then add an elevation file... then when the new terrain editor is released I will layout the default texture tiles on it for the initial release to get it out and in rotation as quick as possible. then make custom textures for the terrain and update it later with them.
then you can whine about how you don't like the new map
-
awwww come on Fester, no body is going to whine about a new map !!! :t

If a couple of you would put your whine posting time into map making, we'd have new maps by now. If the issue was so important to ya'all, you'd do something about it besides stomping your feet and jumping up and down on the bbs, and demanding that someone else do it for you.
