So got an email today of all these pictures originally taken during the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor but only developed this year. Yeah you heard me right, the film sat in the camera for 66 years undeveloped. They were taken by a family member, although I'm still a little fuzzy on the details. Anyway, thought you guys would find them interesting.

Ummm... those pics are quite well known. I've seen them all before... trust me, I've researched Pearl inside and out. Your "family member" would have had to have been in about 5 different places at the same time.
They are beautiful pics though. :aok

Amazing how a "Never seen before" picture has been published before.

Also, film doesn't last that long, especially undeveloped. Not if it's just "sitting in the camera" -- not counting light leaks from old abused cameras.
It's like saying "Oh, hey, this car hasn't been used in 60 years, we started it up and it runs smooth as silk!"

Thanks for posting Sullie, but they have been around a while. :)
-
thanks for posting but seen em already.

Well all I know is what I was told as I'm a little far removed from the original source. I'll have to ask about this one to clear it up. Well enjoy them none the less. :aok
-
Wonder what type of plane that is in the shot with the car in the foreground. Is it Jap, or a patroling AAF plane after the attack? The one right above it has some planes it it too...maybe?
-
Ok I have it now. They weren't taken by a family member, a family member supposedly found them. Obviously though that still isn't correct so I'll pass this one off as spam for history buffs. :)
-
Those pics were taken with several different cameras. You can see the difference in clairity easily. Some were taken with a large format professional camera and some with more consumer optics and film format like an old Brownie.
-
Don't feel so bad, Sullie... this one's been on Snopes for a while... :)

Not always true. In this case though its academic since the pics aren't really newly discovered.

EDIT: Never mind, he was basically playing it up to be what it wasn't -- a museum with people dressed up as Lincoln and family.

I have seen some of those before but it sure was nice to revisit them. A refresher is always welcome where ever they came from.

Wow, that was uncalled for.

Indeed, seems to me it was an honest mistake, and I hardly think we need to be that unkind?
Not everybody here has a doctorate in WW2 history.

Honest mistake? lol
My arse...

Thanks for understanding guys, I'm glad you like the pics despite the initial premise. I have also since set the person straight that sent them to me originally.

well i haven't seen these so they were unseen to me. someone could have sent those to me and i could have made the same mistake since i also don't know what the life is of a roll of film.

Actually there is a chain email with these pictures going around that says something to that basic effect, with permutations on relatives involved. Cut the guy some slack.
You can find all these pictures and others at http://www.history.navy.mil

The first time they were posted here was in this thread. I know I've gotten that e-mail as well.
Great photos either way. Not sure why the squeaker is so bent out of shape on an honest mistake.

Woooooooooooooooooooo, calm down mate. Your madder than a glaswegian on a Saturday night after closing time! I havent seen these pics either, so in all fairness, Maybe he hadnt either! I never claim to be a huge Pearl Harbour buff, but If he had looked in his books (Presuming he has some) and never found them, thenhe may well have thought they were authentic and unseen. Quit with the sudden slaggin off. Doesnt do you ANY favours in this board. You dont know anything of his family, so dont doubt that MAYBE one of them was at pearl Harbour on Dec 7th. I could brag a lot on this board, all of which you would claim as a wopper. However, I am 'A bit fuzzzy on the details' of my family. I never knew my great Grandad, and Ive looked him up on the internet to no avail. Does that make his life and successes a lie? Think before you post.
Thanks for sharing though bro, was awsome to see. One thing that caught my eye that first made me doubt they were authentic was in the second photo I think it is, a tiny bit of the smoke is in colour. Only a tiny bit, but it still stood out. Thanks again though.
Silat- Im one of those Preteens you say, im under 25. Yea I do have problems at times, but it doesnt not excuse this persons behavour. If I have a problem, I would never vent it on any post that was for the good of the community. sir, Just saying, better not to fully generalize. (Plenty generalizing goes on in my village about the yanks! ;) )

That e-mail has been floating around for years, everyone seems to get it from a family member who claims they "found" them somewhere. I got it last year from my Great Uncle who claims he got them from an old Navy buddy (hes a retired SeaBee, but hes also totally full of sh** and can't be trusted as far as you can throw him). Give it a few months and we'll see them again.

Seem them before but still good pictures though
As for the plane in the middle of the picture - no one seems to be running around or pointing at it so my guess would be American plane
