At least thats what I've heard.
They've done away with the HC forums and both sides can't even fill a fraction of the HC positions and a big operation consists of half a dozen players these days.
Anyone know for sure?

My subs expired (last week). But when I left the numbers 'felt' like the were way down on pre-xmas numbers. Plus a lot of things were getting promised for 1.27.... just like stuff promised for 1.26 that wasnt' delivered. But many have predicted the iminent demise of ww2ol before and it has pulled through so who knows.

So how big did WWIIOL get and when? How recently have people been bailing?
-
It peaked 2 or 3 years ago and slowly started downhill until they brought in heavy fog. Then it fell off BIG TIME. Pretty much killed off the air war.
They had a good idea just not the right people to do it. Problem is it was a combined arms war game but they only listened to the "Quake" infantry players and did everything to please them. Even if it meant POing the tankers and pilots.
-
I tried WW2OL when it first came out. At that time I had a P3 800mhz. I think the intial load time was around 5-7 minutes.
-
it was a great idea..i played it when it first came out...i really thought it was a better tank game..but aces high had a better flight sim over all...but i liked the tank part..the real roads with the ditches on each side....and when you shot a tank you could see were it punched a hole in the tank and target dif systems a little better....and i loved when the tanks did go up..they would flame out..lol..big flame out the top hatch...now if they could of combined both these games..it would of been somthing special;)

This time the brought back the old infanry predictor code, now infantry warp all over. Some people seem to like it, but I think about 80% hate it, and I'm fairly sure thats caused another drop. The air war hasn't recovered from the fog. The tankers got fed up with the super sappers (which crs have begun to address).
Dunno if its just me, but they excel in pissing off each segment off the community one at a time :)

Reminds me of what SOE did to the StarWarsGalaxies community. Was a great experience for a short while.

Yup tanks were fun in there until they put in sappers. Then all you saw was tanks running away from the sappers. Then what do the Rats do, they make the sappers run faster so they can chase down the tanks.
I doubt very much they will be afloat much longer.
-
It is a shame, because it could be a very fun game when everything was going, you could find a fight.
Good news for HTC though. Hopefully we will see people like Manx come back to AH.
-
At least last night there was good numbers of players.
I have seen lots of pilots groundpounding recently or they have just left the game. My squad was once a very successful Stuka geschwader but nowadays there is only five members and I'm lucky to see even one them in game once in a month...

I read one of the dev blogs occasionally. It's always good to get info from one of the grunts and not just from some talking head.

i was on ww2ol when it first came out. it took 2 days to actually download the patches for it! I liked the tanks but could not get a good enough frame rate to fly.
I wanted that game to be bug free so bad ... but I finally couldn't take the pain any longer and quit.
thankfully after several years of wandering around I stumbled into AH2.:aok

Westy will be by soon to tell us how wrong we all are about WW2OL. ;)

AH and WWIIO can stand or fall all on thier own merit, or lack of, whichever may be the case.. I rooted for AH for a LONG time but I no longer feel it's worthy of that effort on my part any more. On the other hand while I am very much enjoying the ground warfare in WWIIO I definately don't have any warm fuzzies for the CRS crew and they can do thier own PR for all I care. I simply pay to play. Nothing more (outside of squad comeraderie).

WOW i remember buyinh the game at K-mart downloaded it and man it was like an old atari game at first very basic, Ive been with WWII online from the public launch till 3 months ago, ive seen the game come along way then all of a sudden they total Messed the game up with 24Hr Fog and made it to hard for new players to use all of the equipment then came RANK which started the slow killing off of the game
My WWII 0nline name was Motley Squad Allied Government
-
I only played for a month and didn't really like it.
Every time i logged on i would be running through a field towards enemy ground troops. Drop down, look around to find a target, making sure i wasn't flanked. Line up my sights with some dude and then bang, i'm dead. The guy that killed me materialized out of nowhere.
It got old real quick, but who knows, maybe some time in the future if they ever work out the bugs i'll give it a try again..... well if it's still around.

Reminds me of what SOE did to the StarWarsGalaxies community. Was a great experience for a short while.
I played SWG when it first came out for about 3 months - got turned off when a few buddies stopped playing. Started up again later when vehicles came out and it made it better, but left soon after. Played a few months later with a lot of guys I new from another game and that was good, but again got turned off from the buff system. This was when doctors where millionaires selling buffs for 10k a pop, i preferred the dmg system in the early part of the game.
Actually I preferred the game the way it was when it first came out (MINUS RUNNING EVERYWHERE and WAITING FOR SHUTTLES). Never got my mining empire off the ground :(

Now theres talk about all the Allies bailing and joining the Axis side in protest.
There was even a post by Gophur or Doc saying they wouldn't bring in automatic rifles because it would unbalance the game. I really wonder how they come up with these decisions.

Rifles not SMGs.
The Garand was what brought up the subject.

All I can say is I told em so. They wouldnt take any advice.

i'm there from the start, i think it was 2001 or so, today i think
its still a niche game for some hardcore ww2 gamer, a sim-game
who is still unique because nothing similar is availible today.
Meltdown was from the start if i recall it 6 years ago heh.

I played SWG for the first two years, managed a guild and a city at various times, and saw the long and tragic slide from something with supremely awesome potential, to something that almost made it, to something that was really unbalanced, to something that was just no longer star wars at all. So sad.
If they had bothered to care enough about the JTLS upgrade and done it right they could have turned the whole process around right there. They didn't, and decided to make up a bunch of things that didn't fit, leave missions buggy and monotonous, and to largely freeze development of content for it.
Shame on them.
If only lucas arts would get back to the Xwing series and really hit it with the quality they used to, before the new movies and the 'new gen' fans and their decidedly low standards.
I can say I would not be on this game if not for the awesomeness of the Xwing series back in the day.
Games always die when the devs are more concerned about money than the game. HTC might be slow in coming out with combat tour, but they still care! They're trying to do it right. So glad we're not on a SOE game.

You got that right. But to be fair to SOE in regards to the path SWG took in their development, that was all LucasArts. All development decisions were made by LucasArts, not SOE. SOE only had input in the support of the game. The true blame for the demise of SWG and the introduction of the NGE is squarely at the foot of LucasArts.
ack-ack

I hear ya. I was in Beta and grew bored fast. Then I grew bored of AH. Still waiting for the AH TOD thing-a-ma-bob. Meanwhile, you'll find me online between Dec. 21st and Jan. 3rd every year though, during Xmas break, when I actually have some time in my life to get online. ;)
If Hitech Creations did a Korea sim, I'd be online 2 hours a night and give up some sleep! ;)

Tried to come back for a bit a while back but couldn't get the trial working.

Getting pretty bad when Gophur is coming into other forums begging for ideas to bring people back to WW2Ol.
