My kids used to listen to them. After the first album, I thought they were okay. Music wasn't bad and I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics.
Then, over the next two albums it occurred to me that all their songs are the same. They whine. They whine loudly and it's always the same story.
"You hurt me."
"You don't understand me."
"I'm more than what you think."
Blah blah blah frikking blah blah.
They're basically like Limp Biskit but without any testicles.
-
They're fun to listen to occasionally.
When I was a camp counselor, I had to write letters to the parents every week to keep them up to date on the kid's progress.
Listening to Linkin Park and other angry music cut the writing time in half.
-
Did it come with a nifty rainbow sticker for your car?
-
How does this CD rank compared to the last 2?
-
The one thing I will say about Linkin Park is that Hybrid Theory is one of the very few CD's I can listen to all the way through without having to skip over "filler." It's an all around great CD. Even the songs with crummy lyrics tend to have great instrumentals to drive very, very fast to.
I didn't feel the same way about Meteora. Yeah, it has a few good songs, most notably "Faint" (well, before they start all that pointless screaming at the end, anyway), but the entire album didn't seem as complete as the first.
As for the latest? Well, I've only been downloading a few of the songs after the 30second test, and have found only one that I kind of like, "Bleed It Out." Kind of repetetive, but not bad. I'm not crazy about the rest at all.
And yeah, they are whiney. But who on this BBS can claim to not have one of those days from time to time?
-
do they still have shinoda? i will look into the new LP cd but i havent seen a good single yet.
-
Yeah Mike Shinoda's still in it.
-
I love them because, well, as a clinicly depressed, deeply disturbed, paranoid teenager, they pretty much say what I think :D

That's exactly how I felt about The Cure, The Smiths, and just about every other femme/ghey slim-necktie with heavy mascara wearing band out of the UK in the 80's.

^
The only difference being, The Cure and The Smiths could actually play.
And The Cure didn't ALWAYS whine.
Christ, I'd hate to be a teenager these days. We used to have songs about sex, and cars, and summer.
Nowadays it's "You hate me more, so I'm gonna get a new nose ring, so you'll hate me more. Waaaaaaaaa"
Even makes hip-hop appealing.

Hey, we still listen to the old stuff. My girlfriend and I have more 80s music than modern stuff on our MP3s. Iron Maiden... Quiet Riot... then, of course crap like A Flock of Seagulls... Nena... Blondie... hell ive even got Bon Jovi! Although my top favorite band nowadays is a modern one, Go Betty Go (http:// http://www.myspace.com/gobettygo)
-
I've heard better.
-
That 1st single is lacking. Rehash of the same stuff over
and over. It bores me.
