Hi all,
I am looking to put together a new squad for the purpose of joining FSO. I would like for people to be able to commit to at least one other night per week for practice. The FSO seems to be a great event. It has actual mission objectives and the key is teamwork. I am initially seeking 4-6 pilots, any skill set. The more the better. I am hoping to be able to put something together for the June FSO. Please see ahevents.org for more info on FSO, the rules, and so on and get back to me all who are interested. Thanks and see you in the virtual sky.

good luck, tough hill to climb from scratch

I don't know where else to start. The MA isn't really that fun for me. Any pointers or advice are appreciated.

Well for starters I'd recommend flying as guest for any one of a number of different FSO squads. Do this as often as you can arrange a guest slot. You'll learn a LOT in the process, different command styles, communication, etc.
Second, did you ever consider joining an existing squad? Or do you have to be the guy in charge? I understand if its the second choice, just wondering.
Building a squad from scratch is going to be tough. Doing it from the outside is impossible. Arrive early each FSO, see who's trying to walkon, or get a place that he doesn't ussually have. Write those names down, contact them, thats your recruitment pool. Spend some time each week in the Training Arena. Thats where all the new unattached pilots start. Be selective, be smart, don't rush them, but let them know the door is open if they are willing to work hard and learn.
Trying to get an evolving squadron trained on a wide variety of planes is a long long hard job. Yet that is what your talking about doing. Cultivate a couple of trainers, your going to need their help. Plan on at least a year to start meeting basic goals. From there it does get a bit easier but you still have to stay on top of it, or it all starts sliding.
