Title: Ohio
Post by: 5PointOh on May 16, 2007, 08:56:44 AM
I wasn't real sure on where to put this topic at but I figured here is as good as any other place.

I have noticed that there is a large amount of player in the state of Ohio.  I was think on my drive home from work that perhaps if all of the Ohio player would consider getting together for a lunch or dinner in the future.  Something to encourage a little more friendliness in the arenas.  I myself live near Marysville. If this sounds interesting to some of you Ohio gents reply and and we can work together on a central location to meet up at.  <> All

Ah good some interest, once we get some more people we can start looking at places to go,  The B17 ride mentioned by Lyric sounds neat, I know 1HungLow is near Lima.  I don't mind, if I have to drive a little bit, just need to save my pennies.  Filled my trucks last night 125.00 later I was cussing all the way home.

Just a thought, July 28-29 is the Dayton Airshow.  Could be a good place for a bunch of cartoon plane pilots to meet.

I'm from right near Sandusky, on the lake. I'm about 8 minutes from Cedar Point (named best amusement park in the world 8 years running, with 17 full sized roller coasters, etc...and a nice spot for those interested in "selling" a trip to the family units).

Anyway, would be interested in either the gathering of Mustangs or the Dayton Airshow.

Airshow might be especially good if they're doing any simulated Nik-1 vulching....:lol

Rob53 is from North Canton, I'm from Liberty (just north of Youngstown).

Wright Patterson AFB Museum is also a good place to visit as a group.  Since it is open most days of the year it leaves more dates available for a get together instead of an air show etc.

I'm in Canton, actually live 2 minutes from the Football HOF. Matre8 is from Columbus and a friend of his actually helped organize the Pony show in September. I know at least us 2 are planning on being there, maybe a few others.

Also, I think the Dayton Airshow is July 28th and 29th, and there is going to be a big gathering down there as well. (Dates may be off a bit) Not quite sure how many is actually getting together down there, but supposed to be a pretty good turn out from the sounds of it.

I'm looking forward to the Gathering of Mustangs....my first choice. Not sure I'll make the Dayton Airshow -- a much bigger deal, with lots more to see, but also much bigger crowds to fight. Rooms might be an issue this late too.

Well I think this would be a nice place for us to meet and greet.

The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends
"A Once in a Lifetime Aviation Celebration"

September 27 - 30, 2007
Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK)
Columbus, OH

The world-leader in P-51 Mustang operations, Stallion 51 Corporation, in association with Columbus Regional Airport Authority will be hosting one of this century's greatest aviation celebrations!

The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends is happening ONCE AGAIN!!!
Mark your calendars for September 27 - 30, 2007 for 4-days of fun-filled flying with the P-51 Mustangs and their friends.

The 1999 Gathering of Mustangs & Legends was termed as one of the great aviation events of the 20th Century. Held in Kissimmee, FL at Stallion 51, it amassed 65 Mustangs and 12 Legends for a weekend of flying, fun and old-fashion story telling by the present day owners and the real life experts that flew the Mustang into battle. The first Gathering only wetted the appetite for more and giving hope that there would be another.

Over 100 Mustangs are expected to attend along with 51 Legends who will be an array of Aces, crew chiefs, WASP's and others who were part of the P-51 family. They will reunite at the historic Rickenbacker Int'l Airport (LCK) in September 2007, which will be celebrating its birthday of 65 years in rich aviation history.

LCK opened in 1942 as Lockbourne Army Air Base and served as a glider and B-17 training facility as well as being home to the 332nd FW of the famous Tuskegee Airmen. In 1974 the base was renamed Rickenbacker Air Force Base in honor of Columbus native, WWI Ace and Congressional Medal of Honor winner; Eddie Rickenbacker.

Marking the Mustangs 65th year in combat history, there are only approximately one percent of the original 15,868 Mustangs flying today; the majority of those planes will be at the Gathering in September 2007. As rare as the P-51 has become, the great veterans of WWII are even rarer. This is what the event is all about - these men and women - to reunite them together again: to Honor, to Thank, to Hear their stories one more time.

In addition to celebrating the history of the P-51 Mustang and Legends, we will also feature a World-Class Air Show celebrating Air Force Heritage past and present. WWII fighters that flew with and against each other such as the P-40, P-63, P-47, P-38, ME-109, FW-190, and Spitfire are expected to be in attendance along with some of the country's top Air Show Performers at this incredible aviation celebration!

Please join us in celebrating this Once in a Lifetime Event that you won't want to miss!

Gathering Of Mustangs (http://www.gml2007.com/index.asp)

This will give everyone info on what planes will be there cost and directions.

Less smog?? Homes cost a 1/4 of the price?? Women in Ohio have 99% of original parts??  Anyways the more the merry.  My reasoning for suggesting a meet somewhere is: I myself have a hard time finding people that have a common intrest in this type of thing, other than the AH community.  Plus many of you I have flown with or against, and just like to get know many of you.

"Gathering of Mustangs" would be an excellent venue for a get together.
Second choice would be at Wright-Patt at the Air Force Museum.

Me and Hajo been talkin about a Wright-Patt trip for a couple years too.  But if there's a gathering planned I'll most likely be able to make it.

Just need some lead time to get vacation request in and hotel reservations etc.....

this is betty, july 28th and 29th is the date of the dayton airshow. i hope that yall can come, will be lots of fun. reply to this and let me know if you plan on attending. k

details follow :

its sounds like general admin is gonna b the best way to go, 19.00 per ticket and u can bring a folding chair, was told its the best way. go to http://www.daytonairshow.com and get ur tickets, they might b more at the gate, gate opens at 9am to 6pm, july 28th and 29th. i personally am bringin my lil cooler and folding chairs, the ones that fold up and go in a lil bag..but they have cup holders :)

i got us a good deal on room rates at the local holiday inn in dayton, its 14 miles from the airshow location and its right off I75. i had them put a block of rooms on hold for us, the group name its under is ACES HIGH room rates is 89.00. lots better than the 139.00 they were tryin to charge. we have 50 rooms held, but if they r not all taken up with in 30 days from arrival, they will put them back to rent to other ppl, just wanted to make sure we had enuff rooms for everyone. i think i'm gonna call her back and request that everyone have second floor rooms that way all us puter geeks wont bother other guest :)

hotel : 937-424-5903
group name : ACES HIGH
ask for a lady named : sheila simon *think thats her last name * hehe

* if ya plan on arriving early let the hotel know when u make ur reservations, they will give ya the same rate, because of the airshow they have raised their rates so i was happy to get this rate.

let me know if yall have questions k

that is the latest news that i have on this, this is a lil over a month away and hope that everyone that has emailed me has the info still so that we have a good turn out. gonna b lots of fun!! let me know if yall any questions or email me at blazergirl85 @ yahoo dot com.

If you plan on hitting the U.S.A.A.F. Museum on Sunday i would phone ahead and make reservations to take the Presidential tour. The planes are stored @ Wright-Patt so you need to be on a list first.

They have FDR's plane, and the original Air Force One designated by John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

i called the museum today, the gentleman that i spoke with said we dont need to get on any list unless we want to see the presidential stuff but u can do that individually if interested. but he said that they open at 9am on sundays and all we need to do is go to the front desk and get info if we want and free to wander around.

anyone that is attending plz let me know on here or in game so that i can have rough idea on how many will be there, from what i have so far we have a good group so far :)

The 80 Year old guy is more than likely to be a Veteran.I will pick the 80 Year old Veteran brimming with stories of War & Remembrance.
