Title: Sniper rifle used in the movie Shooter
Post by: Reschke on May 16, 2007, 09:48:11 AM
I just watched this last night here in the hotel and was wondering what rifle it was they had Mark Wahlberg using in the desert camo pattern? Specifically it would be the rifle in the scene where he has the meeting with the Attorney General.

The movie for an action flick was not bad.

The book (Point of Impact) was 10x better...as it usually goes with movies based on good books. But, it was OK for an action flick.

Can point of impact be found in any B&N?

Yes they will have it, it's by Stephen Hunter. I had always heard about Bob the Nailer and how good the book was, especially for gun enthusiasts, but I never read it. I decided to read it before the movie came out. Very good book. The copy I picked up was actually named 'Shooter' and had a picture of Marky Mark on the cover, but it is the same original book.

20 years ago if you told me Marky Mark was gonna be a good actor and do some awesome roles Ida laughed. But I enjoy watching his movies. Well..except for Planet of the Apes.

Makarov read the sequels,

Dirty White Boys- You won't make connection until Darklight

Darklight- Ties Dirty White Boys and Point of Impact together.

Time to Hunt -More Bob The Nailer

Hot Springs- Bob The Nailers's father.

There may be another one after Time to Hunt as well. all great books.:aok

Thanks for the info. I'm actually almost finished with Darklight. Also very good. Will continue to read the series in the future.

Point of Impact is one of my all time favorite books. I haven't seen the movie, but I know I'll be disappointed.

Nope it was not either one of those weapons. I was looking for this one and they do make a civilian version. I finally had some time while sitting here in Chicago to look it up online.

I am wanting to get into some long range shooting  and eventually try to make some competition shoots and I don't mind spending a little bit of cash to get it done.

Yes. They re-released the series with Bob the Nailer... Three books to get.  And no, I am not giving the titles out... but I do have them all in my home library
:t
I'd have to see the movie again, but I feel confident in the opening scenes, he was using the M40-A1 (Remington 700 in .308) and the M82-A1 (Barret .50) since those are the Marine's main sniper weapons of choice.

Sorry to hijack the thread.......

Me and a good friend of mine shoot at long ranges all the time. We havent shot in any tournys other than a clay shoot at 700 yards. He hit a 4" shotgun clay 26 times in a row at 700 yards in winds of excess of 8 mph. We've had groups as small as 3/8 of inch at 300 yards and 5 inch groups at 1000 yards. We both have killed deer at 1200-1300 yards shooting from a card table!.

Both of our setups are base on the 300 Ultra Mag Remington Sendero rifle. The Sendero is without a doubt the best factory offering ever made. This is with a stock barrel, Harris Bipod, sand bag in the rear, and a Nosler Accubond bullets. This is with all handloaded ammo tho. It  takes 200-300 rounds and tons of patience to get the gun to shoot like this! If you want to talk a little more let me know. Youll spend 2-3 grand going this way time you add everything up depending on your setup.

Midnight, actually, the movie is pretty good....not great....but pretty good.  Bob's connection to Vietnam had to be written out of the script to keep the story from being dated, and a few other changes were made....but all in all it was pretty true to the novel.

But IF it had been filmed 10 years ago....with Tommy Lee Jones playing the lead....hooiieee....it would have rocked.

Regards, Shuckins

I always wanted them to make this movie, as you said being a Vietnam vet would date it now. I always tried to picture what actor would make a believable Bob the Nailer,,, I came up with Scott Glen.

Damn straight, a younger Tommy Lee Jones would make a great Bob the Nailer!

CFYA, I'm actually looking into a long range lovin' .243 Win to play around with. I really like the looks of the Tikka T3 (stainless/laminated model). I won't be doing 500+ yrd shots since I don't have any ranges for that distance..wish I did. Any comments on the Tikka rifles? Oh and I'll reload for it also...it's a fun hobby that keeps me out the booby bars.

Tommy Lee Jones would have been great. I always pictured Sam Elliot, but Jones would have been better.

Not a hijack at all as far as I am concerned. We have a range here in the Birmingham area that is setup for 1500 meters but can be pushed out to 2000 meter plus if needed. When I was shooting all the time with my .30-06 Remington Model 700 I was able to put hit within 1/2 inch @ 300-400 yards consistently with hand loaded ammo. I haven't shot that much in the meantime but I still consistently shoot my deer rifle in 2-3 inch groups @ 300 yards. I want to see how well I can do after about a year of consistent practice 2-3 times a week. The humidity down here can be a real kick in the nuts with long distance shots from what I have heard from some of the police shooters who use that long range.

what... you guys don't think any of the new "action" actors are good?

Just because they are all 5'6 and look like women and cry a lot in all their movies?   whalberg guy seems downright rugged compared to the cages and cruises and decrapios and such we have now.

Yep Walhberg seems to strike a good balance as an action film actor. I put Cage in the same mold as guys like Bruce Willis and Kurt Russell; all are crappy.

I don't mind willis or russell but seeing that cage is in a movie is almost always a deal breaker..  I really dislike him as an actor.

Arco, Idaho: CheyTac® Associates, LLC announces their first version of the
world beating 408 CheyTac Intervention® M-200 Precision Rifle designed
specifically for Civilian Target Shooters. The M-200 CheyTac Rifle (Military) is
the holder of the world record, “Best Group At Any Range” as fired by snipers
from the USMC in the summer of 2004. Using 408 CheyTac ammunition in the
419gr, bullet weight, the 3 shot group measured 16-5/8 inches at a measured
range of 2,321 yards.
Until now, the CheyTac Intervention M-200 was restricted to Military and Law
Enforcement sales only due to its impressive capabilities and a desire by the
CheyTac ownership to maintain every advantage with our Operators in the field.
Now, CheyTac engineers have developed a mildly de-rated version of the M-200
named the CIV ( Civilian Intervention Version) to offer the long range competitor
the outstanding capability of the M-200 while limiting its effective range to
significantly less than that of the current Military versions.
CheyTac believes that in these times all responsible companies should first
consider the American and allied troops in the field when offering long range
precision rifle systems to the public at large.
The CheyTac M-200 CIV, bolt action, precision rifle is offered only in the 408
CheyTac caliber with a 26” barrel and a five round detachable box magazine. It
is produced to a MIL SPEC with same corrosion inhibiting finishes used on the
military version. CheyTac M-200 CIV uses a detachable, retractable stock and
features a fully free floated barrel with and integral tactical bipod. Moreover the
CheyTac M-200 CIV fully integrates with the CheyTac Civilian Advanced Ballistic
Computer for first shot “in the black” accuracy at extremely long distances.
