well, thats just one more law we will have to change.
-
let me get you straight...
She got you home safe when you were plowed, and then rocked you for the evening?
Thats not worth a $50 ticket with no points on you license? :huh
Pay it. :lol
-
The constitutional validity of this argument is being challenged all the time.
Hey, does that also mean you get the points on your record against your license? If that's the case, your insurance rates go up as well.
-
We have 'em in Texas but the Legislature is looking to ban them by '09.

It's my understanding that the owner doesn't get dinged with the points... at least that's how it is around here. A friend of mine just got a Red-light ticket and she didn't get hit with the points.

No points in Texas, just a $75 fine.

i think it's the same here and for this reason.

My advice would be to phone the officer back and confess to your deep, dark, cross-dressing obsession.

amazing
-
That’s BS, they want you to do their job.
You implied the officer is female with: “She says you have to…”.
Send her her own name and address.
If the cop is a man, send him his wife’s name and address.
-
I think I'd get chairboy involved with this outrage. there must be some constitutional issue here.
-
They tried using speed cameras here in Texas in a couple podunk towns that wanted easy speedtrap cash. Thanks to a local ex-DA who labeled it the "NaziCam" and is tight with a State Represenative we have a bill working thru the ledge right now that will outlaw them completely. As of last week the TXDOT ordered them to be removed from any Federal or State funded highway. They are a safety hazard.
Below is a link to the story. Of particular interest is this tidbit:
There (Rhome) the tickets start at $179, with Nestor receiving about $25 for each one issued.
Nestor is the camera manufacurer.
http://www.star-telegram.com/407/story/99724.html
Another tidbit to chew on, the Republican Mayor fired the Chief of Police because he was spending too much time in schools and on neighborhood patrol and not writing speeding tickets tickets.
-
well he should be out ticketing dumbocrats. I say good call mr mayor.
-
Storch... if you wouldn't mind...
What is "amazing" ?
-
It's more important for Police to write speeding tickets than it is to prevent crime?

Seems like a good deal
-
Court ruled against them in Minnesota, put the burden on a person to prove their innocence rather than the state proving guilt. All tickets written based on red light camera were thrown out.
-
the same thing you found amazing
-
Whether or not he's liable for the ticket despite who's driving sounds like a local thing to check into. Also will be how conclusive the photo is showing who's behind the wheel. If not definitive, I'm betting it defaults to the owner.
As to paying the ticket and getting points, some older processing systems can be bypassed by overpaying the ticket a bit, and tearing up the refund check they send you --- until the whole process was cleared, the points would not be assessed. It was a neat loophole a lot of street racers and motorcycle squids took advantage of in some areas.
Insurance companies have raised heck over this loophole around the country, and new processing systems are not effected this way, but I got out of points in a speed trap in 2003 this way.

I'd ask for the code section that says you're responsible to track this person down. It might even be somewhere in the extra small print on the cite.
-
If I may RPM, how are cameras on highways a safety hazard? People slowly down suddenly to try to avoid being caught? When they have them here they were in white vans, people usually ignored them when traveling in a pack.
-
Don't ask me, ask the Texas Department of Transportation. It was their ruling.
-
Ahhh ok.

*Then BigB woke up to find his hand a sticky mess and his belly glazed over in a "unidentifiable" substance with a tattered copy of some cheap Airline magazine under his head*
But what REALLY happened BigB?
:D
Mac
*Suspect caught on film at a high rate of speed near the 711 intersection. Photo reveals contents of the front seat includes a bottle of Night Train, a Hustler magazine and AstroGlide... Suspect wearing an Evil Grin... Film at 11.*

there is a spray clear that will make your plate unreadable to the cameras.
When I read about cameras run by the government in science fiction stories in the 60's It would give me nightmares that government could ever get so intrusive into individuals lives.... now... the horrors of books like 1984 are commonplace and accepted by most of you here.
that is "amazing"

So you want to break a law, to allow you to break another law? Amazing.
In CMH we don't have speed cameras, but we have red-light cameras. At the first two intersections where the cameras were installed red light running dropped by 71%. Crashes caused by red light running dropped by 60%.
All at zero cost to the taxpayer, and no officer taken off the beat.

Take a picture of you writing a check and send that in for payment..
;)
-
The traditional response to that has been the police station sending back a picture of handcuffs. :D
-
cameras have really taken off in the past 10 years. the technology is getting better and better, the gear is getting cheaper and tending to all digital, and immediately accessible, and efficiently transferred anywhere.
you just have to remember that everywhere you go these days, you are on camera. its creepy.

I can see them taking a picture of a pair of handcuffs and sending it back along with a pic of a big black man in a cell with a smile on his face!
:rofl
They just put in a *****load of the damn things here in Austin and its already causing an uproar! I like to drive through them while flipping the bird!
Lazy oscar APD cant write enough tickets so now they rely on a camera at an intersection to do it for them now. Gues that means more effin doughnut eating time for the lazy bastards
:furious

look behind you when pulling up to these, accidents at intersections that have cameras can go up as much as 600%. My dad is in the HWY business and has seen reports on them, they also don't generate the money they say they will.

FYI the "bird" is also called "the international challenge to fight", and some lazy APD officer might just drop his doughnut long enough to whoop on you.
-
soooo... mickey and eagler don't see anything wrong with cameras?
We would all behave better if there were cameras in our home too...
lazs

If you don't have anything to hide, Lazs2, why not? A nice surveillance system would do wonders for preventing domestic abuse.
If you object too strenuously, then obviously your life should receive more scrutiny. What are you, a commie?
geez...

You're going from an automated system that detects red light runners, to having someone put cameras in your home?
Nice leap.

You must have missed that Mythbusters episode. The spray, the clear lense and all the other products they tested that were "guaranteed" to work, didn't. Not one little bit.
The only thing that works is covering your plate with mud.
-
really? I routinely california roll lights in broward county where the cameras are reported to be installed and have never received a warning or a citation. I guess I must be lucky about 10,000 times. thanks for setting me straight.
-
No problem. It's a pleasure.:aok
-
ok mickey... lets take less of a leap...
why not have a chip installed in your car that records speeds and have the speed limits enforced electronicaly... when you passed the speed limit sensors on the road it would read your speed and if you were going over the limit...
It would send a code to the computer in your car that could not be cleared.. you would have to go to a "station" to have it cleared (after you paid a fine)
This would make the roads safer and take cops off the streets so that they could spend more time on the "war on drugs" and catching seatbelt and helmet law offenders.
your mom would approve.. so would most of the women socialist democrats.
it would generate revenue for social programs and... A portion could go to schools and all the underpaid part time workers that teach at em.

-
Mythbusters is a entertainment show, the shows lawyers would never let the show air anything that would show people how to bypass a law.
-
storch... I have never gotten a ticket by one either.. what is your point? is it the same old "there is nothing wrong with big brother in your life in every way if you never do anything wrong" arguement that you bring out every time?
I most certainly do not agree with you and your arguement.
lazs
-
I think you missed my point entirely. I roll lights in broward BECAUSE they have the cameras. I have yet to be cited for doing so. if I were to be cited I would get my jewish lawyer to beat it in court. God bless America.

Independently recording traffic violations (red light cameras), yes.
Self-recording all traffic movement and then notifying authorities of violations, no.
-
There's some overlap here between the road block thread and this. In the other thread, Eagler didn't seem to have a problem with roadblocks where police can search your car (in violation of the 4th amendment) and he used the 'if you're not doing anything wrong, what have you got to hide?' rationale for his support.
I think some of the backlash to that is drifting over to this thread.
-
so mickey... you say... red light cameras to take your picture and send you a ticket and record where you were are fine but...
NO FURTHER?
I am glad in one respect.. that at least you draw a line somewhere. Speeding kills more people and costs us more to monitor than red light running so why not record that too? hell... a simple sensor and camera to record speeding violators...
how would that be to you?

The car is considered an extension of the home. That is the problem with roadblocks. Basicly it is an illegal search of your property.

I think it was around 1983 coming back from Seoul towards Taegu and near the town of Taejon there was a camera recording speeders, I was with another in a M880 heading South and we stopped a mile before the camera.... to get set up for a photo expierience.
Sandbag covers over the bumper edges to cover the veh number, front and back.... Left the 19th SPT CMD visable.
I put on my "I'm with Stupid ---->" T-Shirt on and we raced towards the camera... buddy dropped his trousers and pressed his buttocks against the windshield... 75 MPH and click..click....
1 week later the 19th SPT CMD is in an uproar... Korean Police have provided photos and demanded that someones heads are gonna roll... they went as far as checking every dammm dispatched veh driver out on that day and questioned everyone. Of course we had alibies... I did have my C&E Officer pull me to the side and just off the record tell me "Just let them unrecognizable Bassturds know not to do it again..." He laffed his arse off and slapped me on the back...shakin his head as he walked away.
We chilled after that..... but we made local History.
:aok

I'm surprised nobody has thought of sniping he things with paint ball guns yet
Better yet. Use a hypodermic to draw out the standart "paint" in the balls and fill them with "B.I.N." primer and nail em with that.
the lenses will never come clean LOL
