Today some one said "something smells" and me kidding around said "I smell ****. I might jsut be the bish and nits." Five seconds later I got muted for 10mins by a mod. Is it just me or is that a load of BS. Where did the warnings go? If AH was a box game it would be rated M for the blood and valance, and you tell me I cant say ****? Then when I got upmuted I said
"Since when do you get muted for saying chit? What next am I ganna get baned for saying nappy headed hoes? Even basic cable can say chit."
And guess what? Another 10mins. I think HTC needs to tighten the leash on thier dogs and tell them to chill out. They say that AH is a game for all ages yet if an under aged kid wanted to buy a (M for mature) game at best buy they need an adult to buy it for them. I dont know about you guys but I dont know any 14 year old kids that have a credit card. I think anything that a show on basic cable says you should beabel to say in AH, but thats just me. I might get PNG for this but what the hell...muteing someone for saying ****. woth out giving them a warning is retarded.
Ok now back to your n00ks and F22s.........
Just if any of you dont know the word its "$H1T".

I tried to warn you. You've never been able to get away with saying ****, ****, *****,*****,************,******,*******,*******, or ***** when a moderator is on. You'll pretty much always get muted again when you whine about getting muted for saying ****, ****, *****,*****,************,******,*******,*******, or *****, too.
Just a heads up.

Maybe don't say "chit" again? Maybe?

I just had to let the steam out. When I got muted I fould three sets of B17s and couldnt tell any one so I had to kill three all by myself brfore I got my engine hit.:(
Edit: What about chitos Like "Oh chitos that guy almost hit me"?
-
They probably have the 'BadWordFilter' set to 1. No warning, just an automatic mute by the game code. Don't fight the equipment.;)
Either that or they made another guy a mod without telling him. Gets pretty funny when you think you're squelching a guy because you don't want to listen to him, only he ends up muted to the whole arena. Takes a while to figure it out.:rofl

Hell if I know. I just figured if you got muted for saying something once, there is a good chance it will happen again. Maybe the third times the charm. Go check.

Automatic filter always warn you 2 times, and if you hit filter your message will not appears in buffer. If you see your words in buffer and got muted it was mods not filter.

Some of the mods in the game need to be demoted and new mods be put in place. As for the swearing matter, young kids are part of the game, thus language moderation is part of the game too. So in essence, yes, the game does have an Elementary School aspect to it.

The only time in the over 5 years of playing I lost my chat priv's for a week one time.
I merely told this person to "watch his own a** from now on." That is word for word. But there seem to be quite a few "holier than thou" types that play this game. But that facade is easy to see through, as you peruse the BBS info under their location, sig's, etc. They aren't fooling anyone.
The only time Karaya reports someone is due to excessive typed cuss words (done twice) and when idiots spew anti-semitic remarks or other stuff that belongs at their dinner table (5 times).

"HTC turning into elementary school?"
lol. And here I thought this was a topic that was an indication that the AH online environment had reversed it's downward spiral and was starting to mature once again. I can see now it remains at best at "grade school" level.
-
Don't blame the moderators for an inability to control yourself. If you think you have some type of right to use profanity online, you are sadly mistaken. There is no rationalization you can use which makes it appropriate.
If you stand on a platform that has a lever available and a sign that says, "Pull this level and you will die", and you pull the lever. Blaming the guy that put the lever there is pointless. It is your fault for pulling it.

OOOHHHH... Skuzzy PWN!

I saw someone say "*****, I just flew into a hill!" it didnt get filtered out. I said, on the same channel "Wow, you didnt get muted for that?!?" He said "I guess not." "Wow," I said, "did they change things?" "I guess so" was the response. "Hold on, I gotta try this" "*****". Muted. WTF?!? ON THE SAME CHANNEL, HE SAYS IT WITHOUT GETTING MUTED OR FILTERED, SECONDS LATER I SAY THE SAME WORD ON THE SAME CHANNEL, AND WITHOUT WARNING, MUTED!!! Im not complaining about filtering words, but a warning, or at least a lack of double-standard would be nice.
-
Another thing you've got to consider is that a lot of people who play this game ARE mature, married, and with families.
It's one thing if a 13 year old is playing a game in his bedroom with no one else around, but a lot of times we have wives and kids nearby that can see and hear what goes on in the game.
I don't think it's the players that are offended by the profanity... it's the fact they don't want their 5 year old kids to see and/or hear that stuff.. especially from a video game.
And unfortunately, as with anything else, there are going to be inconsistencies.. some people may get put in "time out" and others may not for the same violation.
Reminds me of the time that two people blew a red light in front of me, and not seconds afterwards I get pulled over for having expired license plates. Is it fair? Probably not. Do I have the right to complain? Not really.. because I was breaking the law too.
-
The text filter needs to include punctuation to prevent episodes like this. People do know this is a workaround to the filter, and when mods aren't logged in, this kind of thing will continue to happen. Never understood why it isn't already, but maybe HT can fix it.

So saying "I smell ****. It might just be the bish and nits. :P" loosing control? I said it joking around at about 12am. If your able to say it and not get a warning from the "bad text filter" then why do I get muted by a mod. Whats even better is one minute later someone said radish and didnt get muted. So why are some people muted and others not?
-
LOL Skuzzy, while I agree that cussing online is probably incorrect I detest arguments that start out with a statement of "fact" that is made out of whole cloth.
Morals are a subjective thing, therefore your truth is ONLY truth as long as you have the power to enforce it (which in this case HTC does if one wishes to play game).
From a business prospective, overly zealous mods can be a deteriment as I am sure you are aware.
-
HTC's been able to exist for what, 7 years now without people being able to type **** in the text buffer? Is it really that important to be able to swear in a game to you guys?
-
I would like to know why some people are muted and others arent when they cuss? Im an alult and I cuss, any one who isnt a monk has cussed. I dont see the big deal why some words are "bad" words are words. The bigest problem I have is when a vet of AH cusses they get muted right away but when a squecker is spaming the text or VOX with "bad words" they go on forever. I dont know what it takes to be a mod. but I know unless they are a HTC member it can be abused.
-
You fish?
-
Yes.
-
You catch every fish, every time you go out? :) I know I don't, but I'm only going for the big ones, because I'm lazy like that.
Same thing probably holds true with the mods.
-
So your saying we should let noobs say what they want?
-
Moderators are volunteers, just like any player, they can login and logoff. It will always be inconsistent, but using the, "Hey, he got away with it, why can't I?" argument is just silly.
How many times a day do people get away with speeding on the freeway? Yet, if a policeman pulls you over, are you going to argue with him anout how the guy passed you 10 minutes ago? If you get caught, you get caught. If it distresses you so much to get caught, then avoid doing what you got caught for.
Again, there is no argument you can put forth which makes using profanity apporpriate online.
And there is no way for us to gaurantee there will always be a moderator online. So take your chances, but when you get caught, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Since you so disregard morals, then I suppose it would be a waste of time to inform you that I would allow, even encourage, my children to play Aces High II if I had any children, but that I would not want them to hear foul language. It would also be pointless to point out to you that you could easily be courteous and respect my simple, reasonable wish to not have my children hear obscenity. Really, it would be so much of a waste of time to tell that to a godless relativist that I'd never, ever bother to point those obvious facts out to you.
-
So is it ok that mods. let it go with some and not others? Unless the mod. loged off right when he muted me then loged back on 10mins. later to mute me again I would like to know why the guy that said P**** got away with it. I know that freedom of speach argument wont fly but I would like to know why "chit" is a bad word. Its a cover up word just like GD, BS, MF, and frak. Are those "bad words" that you can be muted for? Is hell one? I would likeknow more non obvious words that you can get muted for.
-
You have not idea who got away with what. You have no idea who got a warning or not. You have no idea when a moderator logs off, and when another one may log in.
And, again, complaining someone else who may or may not have gotten away with something you did not get away with is pointless.
If someone cannot communicate without using profanity, masked or otherwise, and they get caught. How is it anyone else's fault? It is everyone's responsibility to act in an appropriate manner when in a public venue.
By the way, did you issue a .report against the player who used the word which bothered you enough to come in here and start this thread?
-
I started this thread because I got muted for saying a WORD wothout even geting warned. The other guy was talking after he said his word so I may have an idea that he wasnt muted. If he was warned then I think you need to talk to the mod. Yes its my fault for geting muted but I think its fair for everyone to get treated the same. So unless that mod. loged off right after I said my word the other guy should have goten the same punishment, but I highly doubt he did. If two people do the same "crime" its only fair for them to get the same punishment.
-
Due to moderatprs not being available all the time, the perception of fariness is not attainable. That is one reason the .report came into existence. It allows the community an option to help level the playing field when a moderator is not available.
I take it you did not report the other player?
So I take it you also believe habitual offenders should be given the same latitude as a first time offender should be.
-
From what Iv seen the .report does nothing, and can be abbused unless it takes a snapshot of what that person said. I don't know how it works so I dont report people. That and other reasons why I havent said that persons name.

I think you should have a chat with Skuzzy and you'll get a better understanding of what happens. Case in point, every now and then I'll call down to HTC and annoy/chat with Skuzzy. I had an issue come up and addressed it with Skuzzy, he gave an answer to my questions. Skuzzy knows when he talks to me that I don't feed him a line of BS, and can more or less paint the picture, and provide accurate details.
I have enjoy talking to Skuzzy, because he and the rest of HTC cares about their game. If I cuss, it is on me. If I feel a Moderator (or the Auto Filter) is in the wrong, I'll call Skuzzy. But I won't call them and beg to get get my priv's back.

Actions have consequences.
That simple connection, between what I do and what happens to me, is the biggest casualty in our culture of victimhood. If that one concept could be really understood by everyone, 80% of this nation's ills would be gone. Your grade wasn't good because you didn't study enough. The ref called you and not the other guy because you mouthed off to him last play. You didnt get the promotion because the other guy worked harder, or explained his ideas better to the boss....but if he's a loser and got it because he sucked up to the boss, the boss wil figure that out and you'll still be available.
Actions have consequences. My kids have heard that so much that they tell me they'll put it on my gravestone. (THey're kidding.....I think....)
____
But I have noticed that if you try to explain that ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES to someone who doesnt want to believe it, someone who thinks bad things are always someone else's fault, you're generally wasting your breath.

Why not. That'd actually be a pretty good quote for a gravestone. Make everyone else wonder what the back story is.

Got a point there.
Truth is, though, it hardly ever comes up any more. since its so obviously true and since they've integrated it in their own lives and thought patterns. Now, for example, my son gets a little irritated with the qualified apologies most people use. ("I'm sorry I lost my temper, but when you....") "If they're not gunna take responsibility for what they did, why are they even apologizing?" My daughter in college can't understand why people don't just plug away with their studying: "If you work a little bit at a time, then you've got time to goof off when you feel like it and you don't have to cram at midterms."
Obviously, they've developed more good sense than I ever had.

Liberal left? Ha! Ho ho! Hoo hoo! That is very good. I will be certain to relate this one to my friend Rob, who is nearly as much of a right wing conservative fundamentalist as I am. He will appreciate the good joke.
I did do some name calling but I note you didn't respond to my point about simple courtesy. I suppose I could have given you some as an example, but you already made it clear that you don't care about such trivial things before ever I posted.

As I stated in my first post, any statement which uses terms such as "simple courtesy" must first be agreed to by all parties before having any weight. You attempt to gather ungranted support for YOUR opinion by simply using terms such as this as tho EVERYONE agreed with you and only a completed antichrist would disagree.
As far as calling yourself conservative, I do indeed find that a Hoot :)

Ok, how about we use "common" courtesy instead?
It's a common, though not universal, thought that swearing in public is poor form. Probably much more common than the people who think swearing is appropriate at all times and in all places.

How so? I'm a gun owner, a religious fundamentalist, and a meat-eater. I disapprove of illegal immigrants, homosexuality, and feminists. I consider abortion a crime, and oppose environmentalism. I believe in keeping the death penalty, adhering to the constitution, and reducing the government's power. And I believe in an absolute standard. They don't get much more right wing than me.
You, on the other hand, are an admitted relativist - you believe that there's no real right or wrong, that it's all in the eyes of the individual. And that's liberal left. That's the view the feminists, gun-control crowd, and environmentalists take. Anything goes as long as it benefits them. They cry "tolerance" but they have no tolerance for those who disagree with them. They are just as intolerant as those whom they accuse of intolerance; the "tolerance" crowd is simply intolerant about different things.
I believe in common courtesy, too, but as I said you've made it clear that you care not a fig for that, so I feel no reason to trouble myself with it when addressing you.
Disclaimer: Sincere apologies to all of the atheists, vegans, illegal immigrants, homosexuals, feminists, abortionists, environmentalists, and government officials I've offended with this post.

In particular, foul language in the presence of children is greatly frowned upon. In fact, in certain areas of the United States of America, it is against the law.

Now that you have convinced yourself how rightous you are and what a demon I am, how about going back and reading my original post?
In that post you will find that I agreed that cussing online was probably inappropreate, but disliked the manor in which the point was put forth.
I note with interest your attacks on various groups and then your "sincere apolgy" for those attacks?? I am abit confused by that, which is it? Do you oppose those groups or just think opposing them is reason to apologize?
Now as to the the words "simple, common, or any other you wish to use" that is a subjective pursuit and those that attempt garner support for their position by "assuming" they are right, in my view are not.
By the way in this country your religeous views are your own and you have every right to them but NOT to force them on others who may not see it the same way.

The apology was sarcasm, a looser form of the literary device called irony. And yes, I'm quite opposed to those groups but if you'll read my post I don't recall telling the world that they're going to die if they don't agree with me (which you seem to think is what I'm saying). In fact you pressed your own religious views on me before I even considered pressing mine on you. At any rate, I was not at all "forcing" my religious beliefs on anyone; I was simply informing you of my beliefs to prove the errancy of your assumption about them. The objective of my little tangent was to show you how very silly your accusation of leftist liberalism was. I still am boggled trying to figure out what in the world made you think that.

Well Benny what made me assume that, was your instant use of "name calling" which is a tactic used by the left in many cases where they have no other valid arguement.
Apparently the "conservative right" can and does use the same tactic :)
I find your definition of "irony" interesting also as I never thought of it as a "literary device".
As for your forcing your religeous views on me, I only extended what I expected formed your moral opinions into that statement.
You will find, if you ever get to know me, that I am an independant thinker and both agree and disagree with your political and religeous views, since each thing you listed is a seperate issue .

Hmmm.... I thought this thread was about I want to swear as a matter of course and those that disagree with me can *&%& off.
Have I? Yep. Slips out sometimes. Do I as a matter of course? Nope. Do I want to hear some idiot pretend he is in the Navy? Nope.
Have I got muted before in the 3 years I have been playing? Yep. Once. To this day I don't know what I said.......or typed. Did I come on the BBS and whine about how I was getting picked on for swearing? Nope.
I guess I was a Big Boy and dealt with it.
Now to return you to the mudslinging, already in progress. Enjoy.
