Go to www.NaturalPoint.com (http://www.NaturalPoint.com) most of that info should be there.

To answer some questions:

A little up or down is just fine. 6 inches will be no problem.

It is very easy to install, but it will take time to get your muscle-memory working in your neck instead of your thumbs when it comes to views. You'll probably also be dissatisfied with any generic profile and will want to spend an evening making your own.

I would never have bought my track IR (I won it in a contest), but now that I have it, I would never go back, and I'd buy another one if it broke.

Post by: Phil on May 25, 2007, 03:13:45 PM
Been playing for over 8mths now.
At first I was gettin sick to the stomach / nauseated....

Now I can't play without it !
Easy to install and many of ur questions will be answered on this web site !

My neighbor also plays the game and doesn't have the TRACKIR.
When I sit beside him and watch him play(fly/drive GV) I don't know how he does it ! I'm twisting my head(reflects) wanting to see behond the monitor while he needs to hit/activate hat switches !

I believe its a good investment !

Go for it !

Owl,
I was looking for a good profile for AH back a few months ago and Mace was kind enough to post his.  I use it still and have modified it only slightly.  You might like it too.  Here is the thread:

Mace's TIR profile (http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=196483&highlight=trackir+profile)

Yes, I use Mace's profile and like it very much.  He turns off the head tilt dimension which at first I didn't think I would like but very much prefer it that way now.  The only adjustment I made was to flatten things out just slightly around the center.  Out of all the profiles I've tried and devised myself, I like his the most.

Hey I got it and like it iam not using yet the profile of mace just cause i like to see how it work out of the box.

the only problem I have is looking back at my 6. when i look left is almost ok a little confusing on the direction i have to move cause is inverted. but when I look to my right I almost look and feels like iam leading to the left, so iam looking at the seat and 2 is weird the direction I have to mive cause is invertet.

Any sujection you have on how to deal with this let me know.

And also and hotkeys or preference U use share it.

CrazyOwl,
If your "6 view" is inverted, you may have "TrueView" selected in your profile.  I advise turning that off.  I recall that it inverts the view to the rear which really confused me.

Also, Aces High has an option in Preferences->View Options->TrackIR Object Relative Move

I recommend turning that off too.  I don't even remember what it does exactly but I found it very confusing.

Here are my hotkeys.  I find them to work well across the three games I play (AH, MSFS X, Falcon 4).

Pause     ALT CTRL Y
Center    ALT CTRL X
Precision ALT CTRL Z

Use maces mapping.

Getting the 6view right is the main point of the mapping.

Also make sure to close the window with the virtual head that is used to set up trackir. When you have that in the background (the one that shows the head, not the trackir window that is ok) the head gets calculated still and it eats up a lot of graphics power.

Just wish I was smart enough to use someone's profile. Don't have the computer savy to decipher those lists. Combat Flight profile works ok for now.

Here's how to do it:

1. Open "My Computer" and navigate to "C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles"

2. This step is a little tricky as I don't know what kind of editing software you might have.  I'll show you kind of a dumb way to do it but that does work:

Click on a profile in the "Profiles" folder (e.g. "Default_Profile).  Hit CTRL+C followed immediately by CTRL+V   This will make a copy of the "Default_Profile" named "Copy of Default_Profile"

Next rename the new copy to whatever you want to call it.  Realize the file has an ".xml" extension but Windows hides extensions by default.  A common mistake is to create a file like "AcesHigh.xml.txt" or "AcesHigh.xml.xml" so be careful about that.

Once you have copied "Default_Profile" to "AcesHigh", right click on the file and choose "Open With" --> Notepad

Select the menu "Edit-->Select All"  Then press the "Delete" key to delete all the text in the file.

3.  While you have the Notepad editor open and emptied out, use your left mouse button to highlight the text of the profile listed in the forum web page  (e.g. http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=196483&highlight=trackir+profile) then press CTRL+C to copy that text.  Be sure you copy everthing from the "" to "" text.

4. Click the Notepad window to select it then press CTRL+V and that will paste the text into Notepad.  You can then exit (saving) the file and you now have the profile available for use.

Hope this helps.  Sorry I couldn't figure out how to explain this in a simpler way.

Thanks HomeBoy,
That worked great. Tried Mace's profile. Much better 6 view than what I been using. Going to take a little time to get used to. Noticed I'll probably have to get rid of this swivel chair. Appreciate you taking the time to explain so someone as computer illiterate as I could manage it.

HomeBoy,
Flew your prof. today. It's more my speed. A little too much going on in Mace's. I'm no where near the stick that you & Mace are. Maybe someday, probably not. Thanks again for the help.

Do a google search for it, its a free program that will stop/start windows services and free up cpu and memory then start any propgram you want.  has worked wonders for my FR and TrackIR system.
