OMG!!!
I gotta do it.
Anyone who thinks they don't want to peek at that video needs to check it out.
Horsebow, thumb ring so you can nock from the outside (with practice), quiver full of arrows. Lots of fish in 30 seconds.
A crossbow would be fun too.

What kind of fish is it?
Is it tasty?
-

No. They're carp. Junk fish. But some "cultures" do eat them.
-
Apparently this was done on the Illinois river, near Peoria. (I've been on the river and don't recall carp flying like that though.)
Looks like fun.
-
Oh crap, their flying now?!?!
I guess I shouldnt of spliced fish/frogs/birds together.
*quickly hides evidence*

how did you hide the evidence? Flush you spunk wad down the toilet...again?!
-
If you watch all the way through, at the end one of the guys has fish marks splatted on his black sweatshirt.
Maybe we need helmets to fish now?

That and take weekly trips up north to the river to relieve my "urges".

LOLOLOL!
Right after the guy got smathered on the back by the fish, they did actually show a guy wearing a helmet.
Wow, looks completely fun. Any of y'all do that?

Dude, those fish in the video are not Goby. The Goby is the fish on the BOTTOM of that tank you have a link to. The fish suspended is a small mouth bass.
-
You might be right... I knew that it is an exotic species which when I googled the gobi came up, but it could be the asian big head or silver carp (http://www.epa.gov/glnpo/invasive/asiancarp/) instead.

What makes them jump out of the water like that?
Ripsnort, some folks do eat carp, it's supposed to be really good if its prepared properly. In Europe, especially England, the Carp is considered a game fish also.
-
Carp is a bottom feeder like Catfish. I like most Catfish but Carp taste like mud to me, go figure.

My father in law likes to eat carp. He said while preparing them, there is a brown (?) strip that must be cut out of the meat before cooking it or it tastes really bad.
I like catfish too. Even catfish can taste muddy though depending on the body of water you catch them in.
-
Yeah Elfie, what makes them jump like that behind the boat?
They didn't seem to be jumping around in the rest of the river.
Never really been a fisherman myself, hard to shoot fish most of the time. :aok
-
I keep reading 'carp' and I gotta say this.
I heard something on the radio about a concerted Chinese effort in Beijing to clean up signs, labels and menus before the Olympics are held there. It seems many words have been mistranslated or misspelled.
Examples I heard:
Crap-carp
Pee soup
fried lice
too cooked chicken breasts
I think I heard something about 's%^& hole for men' too.
Sorry, dyslexia jumped my memory.

According to http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/asiancarp.htm
Bighead carp have the unusual habit of jumping out of the water from the sound of outboard motors. The problem has become so severe on the Missouri River that water skiers have quit using (parts of) the river.
-
Those carp have become a real problem, they have no natural enimies over here and are devistating the ecosystem of natural species.
As a side note they grow up to 110 pounds and its common now for most boaters and fishermen to wear not only helmets but also harnesses to keep themselves from being knocked over board when hit by jumping carp.

Muddy taste sometimes comes from bottom eaters (hehe, that one can be twisted :D)
Anyway, you have to gut them almost instantly, and properly.
I've tasted trout like that, so I asked my cousin who is a doctor in biology with fish as a special field.
-
better watch out, someones gonna put an eye out :lol
-
Ya Angus I dont fish late summer for that reason. Nothing worse than muddy trout. Ive started gutting them right at the moment I catch them.
-
Thanks for yet another Aces High link into high adventure where you least expect it. :D

Bowfishing is a total blast. If you have never tried it , do so. You will not be disappointed. Lots of action.
You can get into it with a cheap recurve, a bow reel and a couple of fish arrows.
Here, in the spring time, the carp will move into the shallows for spawning. They will be by the thousands.
The real fun though is the gar fishing. Alligator gar will give you a fight to remember. Another plus with gar is the backstrap or tenderloin. Take a apir of tin snips and go along the top of the armor like plating, open em up like a tin can and you have two of the whitest, tastiest backstraps you could wish for. Mmmmm............Mmmmmmm..... ....Mmmmmmmm. :)
There are a lot of bowfishing tournaments across the country now. Some pay higher prize payouts than bass tournies. Some of these tournies run 72 hours non-stop. A real Hoot.
The guys that are really into the tournies have some awesome rigs. Usualy they are wide flat bottom boats that have been rigged for bowfishing. Air motors for getting around the really shallow stuff, two raised shooting platforms front and rear, halogen lights that look like a football field going across the lake at night and a generator to run all of this.
