I'm working on a hovercraft project with some friends, and we're trying to figure out the best way to take the power output from an 11hp engine and turn it 90 degrees.
Specifically, it's a vertical shaft engine, and I want to use it to drive the propulsion prop. My thought is that the best solution is probably a bevel gear setup, but rather than hand make something, can anyone suggest an easy pre-made item that can be retasked?
Right now I'm considering a differential from an ATV, seems like that could do what I need pretty handily, but if there's an obvious car part that can handle a 10hp 100% duty cycle and happens to be cheap, it's worth picking your brains first.

Use it for the skirt fan.
Get yourself a man's engine for the drive fan.
Attach "wings" and change it into a ground effect vehicle.
Much more fun/scary.

Not me... but I want one. :O

I try to limit my flight in ground effect to take-off and landing, heh. Pretty cool, though.

Well in that case, hovercraft.com (http://www.hovercraft.com) may still help you. They've got all kinds of parts, plans, engines, etc. May be your best bet. Can't think of anything you'd pull off a car that would leave an 11hp engine with the kind of performance you'd want.
