Jeff Hanna (Quarters aka "Moondog") long time Air Warrior/Kesmai graphics dude is no longer quite the "anonymous" behind the scenes toiler we all loved to mock ("Sure, you can do AWIV in "two weeks").
He's been nominated for an Autodesk "Masters" award for outstanding 3D service over the years.

Seconded!
It's time to get someone who helped build this genre of online game into what it is today recognized.

Is Quarters still at Mythic Entertainment or did he jump ship when EA bought them out?

Geez, you guys are the nicest. Thanks for the votes.
Ack-Ack, I jumped ship about 3-4 weeks before the EA buyout. Trust me, the fact that EA was coming was a *big* influence on my decision to leave. I've been in Champaign, IL for a little over a year now working for Volition, the company that did Descent 1&2, Freespace 1 & 2, Summoner 1 & 2, Punisher, Red Faction 1 & 2, and Saints Row.

Congratulations on landing at Volition, a great little game studio and nice to hear from you again. I was wondering if you'd be able to stomach working for EA again, glad you decided not to. I used to have to drive by their offices in Santa Monica on my way home, always had the urge to pull over and throw rocks at the building.
As for me, I got tired of SOE and all of their empty promises and hooked up with Square Enix and made the move to L.A. last year and haven't looked back. THQ is also just down the street from us.

I used to go by their offices all the time between 99 and 03 when I was in Champaign. What are they doing now? Any hint of a Freespace 3?

The offices probably aren't where you remember them. Since 2004 Volition has occupied two floors of a new 5 story building in the heart of downtown. A taller sister building is going up this year. There was talk of us moving over there, but I don't think that is going to happen.
As for Freespace 3, I doubt it will happen. Volition doesn't own the rights, Interplay does.

Didn't THQ land the Warhammer 40k MMO deal? I'm having fun with their last published game, 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'
It's too bad about Mythic and EA. I certainly hope that it doesn't spoil the Warhammer Online game comming next year. I wish I still had all the figurines I've painted over the years for Warhammer and my Napoleonic tabletop days...
I'll definately go vote. I started with Kesmai back in the old Battletech days when you paid by the hour online. What a neat game; both strategic and action-based as you fought for your house or merc unit. I'm amazed that there hasn't been anyone recent who's shown any interest in an Battletech/Mechwarrior MMO starting at 3025 and working towards the Clan era...so much material there from FASA.

Soo...what is Volition doing now then?

Did you ever try the Multiplayer 3025 beta before EA closed it down? It was a sweet looking game, using the engine that was going to be used in AW4. It's a shame that Microsoft and EA had to act like two spoiled children and yank the project just when it was close to being released.

Yeah! Loved the engine, but missed the strategy that was involved in the original Kesmai Battletech. You'd sign up for a house unit, or join/form a merc unit in the original, and fight to disrupt production, capture mech factories...even force planets to change houses.
I followed 3025 for YEARS, waiting faithfully like many others for it to become more than vaporware, but still thought it missed that whole 'history' and 'why are we doing this' feel that the original Battletech game and stories gave you. I think that's a huge part of any successful online game design these days; Mechwarrior and 3025 were fun, but failed to hold folks' interest long-term.
I still think that the whole FASA Battletech Universe is one of the most fertile, unused genres in MMO's currently. Heck..how many hundreds of thousands of players still have Marauders painted in House Davion or Wolf's Dragoon's colors stashed away somewhere...? Quite a market there with tons of background material waiting to be used.

Sorry, man, I can't say at the moment. Neither game has been announced. Volition is owned by THQ, which is a publicly traded company. The information I have is considered insider info. I'm not allowed to divulge it publicly until it has been officially released.
