and could we get one for AH?
By this I mean non-nuclear and delivered by a conventional plane (no rockets). So if you could buy these with some major perks it would give us something to use our perks on and be GREAT fun. At least for our side.
I can see the crater now. :)

Both carried by Lancasters. The former by the B-1 Lanc with a modified bomb bay.

There was also the 12,000lb high capacity bomb which is on the left of this picture - it was 3 x 4k bomb sections bolted together in a lightweight casing. IIRC it's charge to weight ratio was something like 80% over the tallboy/grandlam which was ~30% of torpex.
-
Yes the Grandslam and Tallboy hae very thick case due to the fact that they traveled hurndreds of feet below ground before exploding.
The Grandslam was also known as the Earthquake bomb. Plus it was supersonic at impact so you never knew it was coming till it was to late.
Nasty expensive suckers and I think it took 1 - 2 weeks each to assemble too.
Ryan
PS I would love to see anything ordance related introduced to this game!
-
I think HT stated nothing larger than the 4000lb bomb we have now would be released.
But I would still love to see these, perhaps in the new perked ord system to come.
-
woaaaaaaaaaaaa hold the phone!!!!!!!!! New perked ord system??????
Spill the beans for those not enlightened.....

Version 2.09 Patch 1 Released November 16, 2006
Changes from previous release
* Fixed a bug that caused a CTD if you went into the lobby first and later bailed out of a plane.
* True Airspeed indicators on the new F4U's were off.
Version 2.09 Patch 0 Released November 15, 2006
Changes from previous release
* Added a new chat lobby option at the arena selection menu. This enables you to chat with other players in the lobby prior to entering an arena.
* Revised the 3D shapes of the F4U's. The F4U-1C was excluded from the revision as it will eventually be dropped as a separate plane when a perk ordnance system is developed.
* Added the F4U-1A. A big thanks to Greebo for the excellent skins on the -1, -1A, and -4.
* Added a new Trim Set function. This a supplement to the manual trim system. At the instant you press the trim set button, it will see how much aileron, elevator, and aileron input you are giving and feed in trim to achieve neutral controls. The default key for this function is the <.> key. If you have ever remapped any of your keys, you will need to manually map this function.
* You can now fly HiTech's RV-8 offline. To get the RV-8 to show up in the plane list, type the dot command .showrv into the radio bar. Leave the hangar to get the plane list to refresh and the RV-8 will now display in the plane list.
* Cannon rounds exploding next to ack guns were detecting closer than they actually hit.
* Removed 88mm flak from airfields and towns.
* Added more manual and automatic AA guns to the airfields.
* Added more barracks to the airfields.
* Perk point multiplier bonuses for uneven sides is now limited to 5x.
* External ordnance now appears on other players' drone bombers.
* Opening the M3 door no longer kicks off the autoheading.
* Tailhooks can only be down when gear are down.
* Amphibs are now treated as other vehicles if you are using the option to automatically switching to Control Mode 2 for vehicles.
* CV map rooms no longer appear on the map.
* Fixed a bug that caused bogus squad messages to appear randomly.
* Fixed a bug that could cause the clipboard to appear dark on the opening screen.
* P-51D primary and secondary guns are now set up to the correct weapon groups.
* The Bf 110C had incorrect guns listed on the damage list.
* The Spitfires and P-51s were missing glass from their gauges.
* Ar 234 pilot wound now displays correctly.
* Changed the look of tracer rounds.
* Added slip indicators to the gunsights of all planes that were missing them.
* Fixed a bug that caused some computers with Intel graphics chips to crash on the first start-up if no graphics setting changes were initially made.
* Fixed an error on the F6F that allowed you to put the pilot's head into a canopy brace.
* Fixed a sorting error on the F6F's gear.
* Added a total fuel gauge to all Spitfires.
* Changed the ENY side balancer so that it's more forgiving of arena imbalances at low overall numbers but ramps up to full effect at larger numbers.

About the Tallboy: -
When dropped from 20,000 ft (6,100 m) it made an 80 ft (24 m) deep crater 100 ft (30 m) across and could go through 16 ft (4.88 m) of concrete.[1]
W. J. Lawrence wrote about the Tallboy bomb in his book, No 5 Bomber Group[3]
It was an extraordinary weapon, an apparent contradiction in terms, since it had at one and the same time the explosive force of a large high-capacity blast bomb and the penetrating power of an armour-piercing bomb. On the ground it was capable of displacing a million cubic feet (29,000 m³) of earth and made a crater which it would have taken 5,000 tons of earth to fill. It was ballistically perfect and in consequence had a very high terminal velocity, variously estimated at 3,600 and 3,700 feet per second (1,100–1,130 m/s or about 2,500 mph), which was, of course, a good deal faster than sound so that, as with the V-2 rocket, the noise of its fall would be heard after that of the explosion.
Grand Slam: -
When dropped from high altitude onto compacted earth, the Grand Slam would penetrate over 40 metres into the ground. The explosion would leave a camouflet (cavern) which would undermine foundations of structures above, causing collapse. This is what happened to the Bielefeld railway viaduct, the first enemy target destroyed by a Grand Slam.
Above is mostly from wiki.
The "hundreds of feet" is a little bit off... but not by as much as you would think ;)

I think hitech should put like an atom bomb in the game but it takes like 500 perkies to get, and it could lvl a large base and the town, and any planes in area get disinegrated:D and the pilot of the bomber gets all the kills :D

Why has no one thought of this before? What a great idea!
-
Yup Furball.. it did sound abit much, but i did know it could move some dirt around.
-
I be happy to pay 500 perks for a Tallboy or Grand Slam. I'd want some escort to get to target though.
I oppose the atom bomb on the basis of having to fill out all the paper work for environmental impact. On the other hand, if we did have an atom bomb we should bring back nigh time so we can see troops on the ground glow in the dark.
I like the idea of having a few things to clean out the perk bank.

It would matter if it was supersonic or not.... it still would have been too late. :D

It's amazing.
Ya can't kill a ground vehicle with a 75mm AP round. Ya can't kill a ground vehicle with a 76.2mm AP round. Ya can't kill a ground vehicle with an 88mm AP round.
So you gotta go get a box of Lancasters to try it with. So ya can't kill a ground vehicle with 9, 1000lbs. bombs. Ya can't kill a ground vehicle with a 4000lbs. bomb. Ya can't even kill a ground vehicle with three planes with a combined load of 39,000lbs. of bombs. So, you want a BIGGER BOMB?!??!?? :O :rofl

I was thinking Grandslam.......Tank Town........you do the math. :t
Which is probly why it will never be allowed to join the game.
Yeah....a couple of hundred feet or so was a bit much but I was going from memory.
I was thinking more from the stand point of terror, much like the V2, about your day being over without ever hearing the shot.

The main difference is: The Grand Slam and Tallboys were actually useful, being able to hit specific targets.
With the V2, you are actually lucky to hit even a city. Not very efficient in military terms.

The 12,000lb High Capacity bomb would actually be better for destroying cities, thats what it was designed for. The tallboy was an AP bomb designed for killing the Tirpitz (which it did).
Think of them in terms of tank shells, the HE shell is the 12k cookie whereas the tallboy/grandslam would be like an AP round. (not to say a Grand Slam wouldnt destroy a town - i don't know if it was ever used in that role).
Think of the mess a Grand Slam would do on a HQ ;)
-
Stop it guys!!! Im having wet dreams!!! Something about LTARS and gv's??
Seriously any perked ord would be nice!!!
