I have this program call 'Bannershop GIF Animator' & I fig. out the making of a gif animated avatar but when all is said and done my animation is in the center of a huge border.
How can I make the border fit the animation?
bannershop (http://www.selteco.com/bannershop/)
Here is an example of what my end result is:

hey Ratt, best bet is that you need to make the original size of the material youre using set at 100X100 pixels, as that is the toal size of the avatar and the white boarder in your example.
i also think im correct in remembering that the avatar limit here is 64X64 pixels? but i might be wrong.

It's 80X80 and up to 30000 bytes.

dang...it costs money...

Just spent 5 mins on it, cropped it, removed some frames and adjusted the timing to try and keep the same effect.

It is blurry from enlarging the original size, it is still 3 x too big filesize to be an avatar, but it is a start for you.
