So last night the family and I went to the drive in movies to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I really wasn't expecting that much at all just a decent movie that there were trying to milk money off of from 1st and 2nd. But I must say I was completely wrong was a great movie was never a boring moment from start to finish although I will say if you want to really understand this one you have to watch the first two pirates of the Caribbeans before seeing this one. Overall it was well worth the 7 bucks I paid to get in and id suggest anyone with some free time to go see it. 8/9 out of 10 stars would be my rating.

I saw it and was a bit underwhelmed. They had a great lead up to Calypso being the woman scorned, then promptly ignored any repercussions from her having found out who imprisoned her. My guess is that it was a build up to a possible different ending and they dropped it.
I thought the movie was OK but certainly not as good as the first and second. It was a bit long as well for what was going on.
I'm thinking that there is room for a fourth segment given the situation with the new Davey Jones. I'd bet a twist to secure a rescue but without a "human" Calypso the magic powers part is rather blunted.

At just under 3 hours, I'll wait for it on cable then see it when I can.
-
Your prostate uh?:p

After seeing the 3rd movie today, I have to say that it was ok. prolly a 7/10. Not bad, but not omg I have to see that again. Still think the 1st Pirates is that best. Savvy

I thought it would have been ten times better if it had been 20-30 minutes shorter. Too much filler.
-
I do think they stretched the last major fight scene when the Dutchman and the Pearl were fighting in the whirlpool for a lil to long it was kinda like um ok we get the point.
-
If it wasn't better than 1 or 2 which were disappointing crap, I'll have a pass on this one. Thanks for the info. ;)

The only character still to be "clownized", Barbossa, was transformed into a overacting mess, and most of the three hours are spent trying to explain an overplotted puzzle that has little or nothing to do with the first movie anyway.
I reaaally hope this is the last one.

Oh, I don't know, some of us can't spend ALL our time agonizing over the rainforests. Sometimes a little mindless entertainment and escapism is in order.

sorry, i just can't get beyond depp's keith richards impersonation. then there's the horribly discursive plot structure. i couldn't get past 15 minutes of the other ones.

So why are you even bothering to read much less post in a thread about the movies you can't be bothered to watch?? :huh
-
Why am I posting in a Pirates of the Caribbean thread, about Pirates of the Caribbean?

Drive ins are the best ways to see a movie. Sitting there kicked back in the fresh air on a summer's night...love it.
-
Yep...throw an air matress in the back of the pick-up and kick back. Best way to catch a flick. :aok
And btw...I thought Pirates 3 was pretty entertaining. :)

It appears they are getting more carried away with their special effects. Look at the first Pirates. It had a good story line that was simple to follow, with of course, plenty of humor. The second got a little carried away with the special effects and the time of the film definitely was longer. The third, well, it speaks for itself... 3 HOURS?!? The storyline was not thought out well, the film was not that easy to follow, and it appears the director wanted to make the film more of a special effects show than to actually make the story line stick.
Although I must admit, the midget flying backwards after firing that bazooka was quite hilarious!

Keith Richards plays Jack Sparrow's father in the 3rd one...
and Nilsen LOL! that film is even better than the three combined.
