Title: The candle for my family

http://www.fallennotforgotten.nl/Story00010.htm

Just under a year ago my family was contacted by a John Smeets of Holland, inquiring about the life of Carl F. Roehrich, and his surviving family.  Prior to this inquiry by Mr. Smeets the only contact with the Smeets and Roehrich family was though Mr. Smeets volunteering to take care of my Great Uncles Grave.  He has done so for the past six year, and prior to that, other members of his family have taken care of my great uncles grave since the end of WWII.

Mr. Smeets decided that he wanted to learn more about the life of Carl F. Roehrich.  It took him about a month, however, he contacted my uncle Carl (named after his fallen uncle), and ever since my entire family has hjad a dialogue.  Sometime in the next 12 months I plan on traveling to Holland and representing my family to the Smeets family.

I just think this whole situation is beautiful.  It's amazing to see my grandfathers face when he hears so much buzz about his fallen brother 50 years later.  Memory always lives on.

Just thought some of you may be interested

Cav,

What a wonderful tribute!!  Thanks loads for posting.  There just aren't words to express the gratitude.  We are indebted so profoundly.

We'll have to live it.

Is the grave in Holland then?
