Its all incoming. I got teenage girls who think the world is coming to an end, and refuse to CALL. So I get spammed with texts at 0200. Ive pretty much blocked them all, and canceled texting on my phone (I never use it anyway...)

I would had already been out doing whatever my father deemed a fair punishment to repay my debt. Along with his footprint in my backside.

sounds like its time to get a paper route or mow lawns - must not think much of your mom to burden her with such a bill and then laugh about it  .. kids ..

Time to lose the cell phone. Blaming it on your friends seems a bit disengenuous. I don't think they are all to blame for this. Are you of employable age or are you also just 14 to 15?

I'm sure there's an aincent Chinese saying about the kind of people that make excuses versus the sort of people that find solutions.

If there isn't then there should be.  Stop making excuses Serenity and fix the problem.  Projecting the blame onto others isn't the solution.  It was your cell phone and to your mother, whether you know or like it, most likely a chance to show your level of responsibility.  Just last week you were hard pressed to afford $15/month for Aces High and in that time you managed to run up a $600+ phone bill?

What the hell?  Better dust off your lawn mowing shoes, paper route bicycle, lemonade pitcher and car washing bucket because you're going to need them.

We use this on teh wikis a lot, but it can apply to forums as well:

http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/mb.pl?GoodBye

In this case, it probably isn't the case, Donzo, because it's not a response to conflict or a "Well FINE, I'm OUTTA HERE!" message.

Wow....yeah.  Seriously though, teenage girls are insane about texting rather than calling.  However, if it was my ex-girlfriend she would call 5 times in 5 minutes, and then send 10 text messages.  I don't think you older boys understand the damage that girls can rain down by jst clicking a few buttons on a phone.

For the record my bill was only $150 something which I paid in full to my parents, and 90% of that was just received texts not outgoing, but it is what it is.  I personally can't stand texting or cell phones in general.

Yup, Nirvana is right here.

The phone company's new cash crop is text messaging costs.  And because you have no choice as to whether or not someone sends them to you, the phone company makes it as difficult as possible to block the service.

At $0.10 each it's 6,000 messages.

Six Thousand Text messages...

200 a day.  Sorry Serenity but it's not anyone elses problem but yours.

Yeah, man.

What little of me that survived the mauling by Momma Bear, Poppa Bear would have tossed in the wood chipper.

one of the best Eastwood lines, from a chitty movie, "The only thing beating you to the emergency room, would be the headlights of the ambulance you were riding in."

Ahhh yet another reason to not give a cell phone to kids.

At least your mum finally had text messaging blocked.  Now if thinks to just take the cell away and have you use the olde pay phone like we had to do in the olde dayze... :D

There is an easy solution for those that are text addicted and broke.  Two of my friends have TracPhones.  Once the minutes run out the phones can still recieve and send texts.  I would assume the company will eventually cut this service off though.

If you don't have a texting plan with Cingular they are 99 cents each. That's 99 cents to recieve and 99 cents to send. I had a girlfriend that thought it was cute to text me every stupid joke she could. I put a stop to that BS real quick.

Serenity the solution to your problem is simple. Lose the cell phone. There is really no reason you need one to get through adolescence and you should be paying attention to school right now, not a freaking phone.

I didn't get my kid a cell phone at all and he was able to get through high school and 2 years of college so far just fine without one. If he wants a cell phone, he knows how to get one. All it takes is a job and then he can spend his money on it.

The intention of some parents, like my own, is to give their kids cell phones "just in case".  Of course there are also parents who buy their kids the newest fanciest phone so they can be cool and text all their friends.

Could you imagine if kids these days had to go back 30 years?:O

my brother-in-law got my nephew a cell 2 years ago when he was 13. the first thing he showed him was the power button. he has never had a bill over $40 and he pays it every month by doing chores (washing cars, mowing the lawn, ect...).  just shut the damn thing off!!

My youngest daughter has had a cell phone since she wa 12. She is 16 now, and only once went over on her time. Was only about 20 bucks more, she said she would be more careful and to this day she still has a phone. Our family is very busy, I have a successful business and am Executive Vice President of the Board Of Directors at my daughter's school, wife works for Budweiser, youngest daughter has Band, Tae Kwon Do, and just started a job. Nice to be able to get hold of her when I need to.

I'm sorry but if I'd had a bill one 10th that size my dad would have hired me out as forced labor till it was paid.  By the time I was your age I was basically supporting myself. Dad took care of room and board but if I wanted something above that I had to go out and earn it. By the time I graduated from High School I had over 5 grand stuck away in savings. Which was a pretty fair sum of money back in 1970. And that was after I bought my first car btw. :)

I earned the vast majority of that at less than 50 cents an hour with a lawn mower. I hated the work, but it was the only way available.

Just maybe since you did pay them back they decided to allow you to be an adult about it and go on with your life figuring a lesson had been learned. Should you repeat the mistake they may look at it differently.

Or did you figure they should put you over Dad's knee and paddle your butt?

WTH? You need to pay for incoming calls/messages now?

Down here most companies offer like 1000 messages monthly for free (sending, receiving is always free unless you're abroad).

You pay to send, AND to receive, and we get none free.

All I have to say is, get a different cell phone provider!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have a plan with three phones, unlimited TEXT, anywhere minutes, and 1000 shared internet minutes a month and it never runs over $129 a month.  most phone companys will tailor a plan for you.  Good luck with the BILL.

To hell with cell phones.

I refuse to have anything on me that can be tracked,on or off.
and then to pay for it to boot!

Heh cell phones are a necessity today. I feel completely naked without one.

I can't imagine how someone could survive without one in a modern world. Wired phones are disappearing fast. In fact I only see them in offices anymore.

Ive been trying to tell my mum to switch providers since the day she signed up... But shes yet to even consider it because she likes what she has and isnt willing to try something new.
