Title: Passed my first Angiogram!!!
Post by: AWMac on May 31, 2007, 12:29:16 AM
Was told last Friday that I was going to have an Angiogram on Tuesday... Had all of Memorial Day Weekend to think about it. The weekend went by to fast. Didn't sleep a wink Monday night, worried.

I have High Blood Pressure, Diabetic, High Cholesterol, Smoke, Drink and a bit of Stress... Yer typical Poster Boy for a Heart Attack or Stroke. Was really nervous going in. The Dr. said if he found anything wrong he'd fix it at that time...so if that was the case I'd have to stay in the Hospital under observation for 3 more days... Crap.

I checked into reception, paperwork. Waiting room, scared cuz my room was a single for three days...lab work, paperwork, give blood..frikken vampires.. another waiting room and called to get prep'd.

Now getting prep'd is like yer new to the Little Leagues yet you know you want to be protected. Instead of being handed a Cup I'm offered a nose guard. I'm offered one lil white pill.. WTF is this? The Nurse mumbles "To make you relax..."  Screw that! Bring on the Ball Peen Hammer, Let me run headlong into a wall...something!  The Nurse does an IV into my left wrist, another nurse walks in with clippers... I knew this was coming anyways..yet I could resist the look on her face when she lifted the sheet and exclaimed "Good Lord, He's shaved already!"  Hey I was bored over the weekend... was thinking of writing words with a Charpie like "Please leave the Side Burns, Just a trim please or Leave yer number on the other side."  The other Nurse had to look, both smiled.  Horney Nurses...Angels.

Wheeled into the OR.. other Nurses prep me... two cute females and well a wierd looking Male.. I'm keeping my eye on the Male....don't want him leaving me his number on my stuff. More drugs into the IV.. I've noticed the twitching has stopped, yet I feel there's NOT enough drugs in me for what I'm to face.

Now I realize that everyone but me is wearing a mask.  Think about it. If they are worried about infections, I'm the one who is gonna be screaming and cussing...Here we go... "You only feel a sting."... HOLY JEBUS a STING??? You just HARPOONED my GROIN!!!!  CHIT... "Okay you'll feel a lil pressure..."  ARRRGGGGHHHH... the most sadistic thing about all of this is they have the monitor where you can see everything...you have to look to make sure it keeps beating.

Then the time comes where they inject the ink/fluid/lava.. "You might feel a slight burning sensation." If I could fart right now...... Oneside, next side... Dr stops on the left side and exclaims "Oh Whoa..."  HUH??? WHAT??? Silence and then he calls the others to look on...I almost fade to Black.....

I hear the term "rare" and he tips the monitor closer to me to see... points out these arteries...like I know what I'm looking at.  points out the two big ones and points to a third one. Rare case fore a third arterey, explains the fast beats and sweats. No sign of any clogs, damage or blocked flows throughout the heart, amazing do to all the warning signs I poccess.  Doctor said it was a rare thing and I'm thinking well I can now eat all the fried foods I want now...Naw.

Gotta make it another 49 Years.

Thank you GOD, Jesus and all those above looking down at me.  I'll become a Heart Donor when my time is passed.  Just to share the Health.

just my $0.02worth.. Been a tuff few days. But I'm BaaaaaccccK!!!

...I cringed thru most of that.

Good to hear.  My goal is for my arteries to be teflon coated  :)

With all the antioxidants I consume daily (pommegranate juice, green tea, vitamin C, etc etc)...its my goal to keep healthy with exercise, proper nutrition and a weency bit of paranoia of procedures like what you described.

Yeah, it's strange to see your heart beating on the TV while strapped down to the operating table. I was there 7 months ago.

I gotta agree on the drugs. I swear all they gave me was asprin, but they charged me for morphine. I thought morphine was suppossed to frak you up.

Glad to hear your just a freak of nature and it's nothing serious.;)

Too bad they did not have to go in and put in stent(s). Don't take that wrong, glad all is OK.

They shave you near the family jewels. After the operation, they clamp you, and a small sand bag over the incision made in the artery, to the table.

Interesting watching the end of the probe wind its way to the heart.

No stents, all was clean and clear. Had me amazed too.  Removing the cath from my groin took a slow and uneasy 20 minutes by the Nurse. It's now a timed practice to prevent excessive arterial bleeding. Then a guaze/sticker marking the exact spot/covered in a celophane tape.

The whole area was covered in a lime green antibacterial solution... I asked my 8 Year old Son in the recovery room if he wanted to see Shreck.... once he seen the side of my right hip he declined quickly... :rofl

Did you happen to ask the medical team there to vote for you? How about at least explaining your platform to them??

Glad you were clean, that's not a procedure I want to undergo. So far so good now.

Wtg, Mac, interesting report.  You have a promising career as a medical reporter.  Kinda helps keep your mind off some of the needle procedures, right?

Good way to stay in control (well, at least somewhat) and participate instead of just being done to.

A couple things were different about my angioplasty. I had an airbag clamp gizmo they strapped to my leg to prevent bleeding. I think it was called a cathclamp. No being sandbag strapped to the table after surgery, but I had to wear it for 8 hours.

I could be very wrong, but I don't remember it taking 20 minutes for the Doc to remove my cath. It was all very bang-zoom. I was in and out in under an hour.

Glad all went well Mac.

Had one back in 1989 after a small heart attack, they found a cardiac bridge.
[Knock on wood] No problems since.
When my late Father had one his incision leaked badly. I even called the nurse to get the surgeon back in but he didn't think it was much to get worried about.

The NURSE!!! geez no child left behind.

rpm it was a nurse in the room that I was preped in that removed the Cath.. I asked her why it was taking so long to remove it too...

The lil sandbag I had to wear for 48 hours and was removed in a shower...

Can someone kiss my Boo~Boo?

Are you talking about a Foley or the cath used in the angio? I didn't get a Foley. I turned that little bit o' joy down. If a nurse removed your cath used for the angio call a lawyer now.

Had a Cath Bro... asked her why she was watching the clock...

She replied it takes a bit to remove it... I asked her how long and she said 20 minutes, slowly.

Hell I was ready to rip it out when the Dr claimed it was all over...

Wish I had the Vicidin... I was screwed over.
