Why do we have the Electoral College? why should a select few decide who gets our states Votes? it is an old system which is out dated and not really reflecting what the people want, Why Vote if it means nothing sense the Electoral College is what decides who's voted into Office

So the overpopulated coastlines cant run ruck shod over the middle of the country. In a nutshell.

This thread already shows why america is starting to suck wind... no one actually does research before they throw their opinions around. There no longer is a timed reasoning before you open your mouth and speak.

Blooze, I was identifying with the beginning of the thread, not the answer from that second post. An incidental look into american government may have helped the first poster to answer his question.

I fly with 21 when he's on. The rest of the squad I hardly ever see. 77 sometimes.

No currently I don't have a squad. I do not make commitments to things I might not be able to follow through on. I consider joining a squad a commitment to said squad, and flying with them during some squad nights is required, otherwise why join? Is this indicative of my lack of intellect now? Something that you are going to belittle me on... your attention to trite details overshadowing larger issues is mind numbing.
What is your in game ID?

Wyoming has like...3 electoral votes. WHY would a candidate go there when the Los Angeles has more people than that entire state? Candidates would go back and forth between New York and CA, mebbe FLA....and those states would pretty mush decide the election
-
It's all or nothing winning electoral votes.
If you don't win a states votes then your opponent does.
If what you have to offer as a candidate only appeals to a few of the bigger states your opponent will win all the other states and beat you.
Thats why the electoral college is there. It keeps someone from appealing to a few high population centers winning with the popular vote and disregarding the rest of the country.
For example at the state level, in my state (New York) someone running for office only needs to appeal to the people living in New York City to be elected. The city is so large that its votes far outweigh the rest of the population of the state.
On the national level the electoral college prevents this from happening.
-
I would not mind if the smaller states got a bigger percentage of the electorial votes and...
the jb's suck.

"What people want" was why the electoral college was instituted.
Mob rule and all that.

Hap i understand that and thanks for your answer, so why do we have the American People vote, sense the Popular Vote will not get you into Office:aok
-
While the president isn't elected by pure popular vote everyone else on the ballot is.
During an election you have state and local politicians looking to get elected/reelected and state/ local propositions that need to be voted on.

How many times was a president elected without winning the popular vote? I don't know.
I vote because a ton of folk worked, lived, fought, and died so I could have a say.
Also, many other ballot decisions exist besides who will be president.
I don't mind the electoral college at all.
It's a safeguard. It attempts to guard me and you from the selfishness, irrationality, an wounded human nature of my/your fellow citizens.
As to how well it works or not, I'll stay mum since that would be another topic.
