Since the last two patches things have been kinda bad with losing UDP and then host connection lost.
I'm wondering if it's one of two things:
1. The Nforce (I think Broadcom) onboard NIC chip on the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard. I've got the latest Nforce drive pack loaded.
I do have an Intel Pro 1000 server NIC I can put in.
2. I have a Linksys WRT54GS router (I use wired, not wireless). In an effort to boost the reliability of the router I reflashed it with DDWRT (latest). It crashes less but still requires rebooting occasionally.
I have noticed that usually after I get booted from the game with the 'host connection lost' screen, I am usually unable to connect to the router admin web interface, either that or it's VERY slow to connect. That's weird.
I have Comcast cable internet access.
Any idears?

How old is your router? The longest I've gotten one to last is 18 months. Had a tech tell me thats about average. He said that heat killed them off faster. I've got mine away from computers, monitors, and keep the air vents clear. We'll see how long this one lasts.

It's about 6 months old. Yeah they die pretty quick, I give them to remote workers and get them back fairly regularly. Good thing they're only 40 bucks or so. Seems like the biggest failure is the power brick.
The DD-WRT is a cool deal (it's a reflash of the firmware based on linux). You can make them do RADIUS and VPN stuff, very neat.

I don't think that it'd hurt to put in your "extra" nic and see how it goes especially since it seems that you may be having trouble with your local network.
One thing you may want to check is that your isp has properly provisioned your cable modem and router. ~ I was frequently losing my connection and would have to release and renew my address through my router ~ finally got fed up and called my isp (Cox) and the issue was resolved by reprovisioning the MAC address(s) on my modem and router...

Interesting. I always get the same IP when I renew the DHCP lease.

Generally speaking you'll always get the same address when renewing - there are exceptions and instances when you won't though - odds are that you will get the same address...I had the same address for 4 years until I moved and switched cable providers...
