I know that the dar in the nose will be of little effect (unless modeled) but the 4 x 20mm firing forward and a dorsal 360 degree turret mounting 4 x .50cal would be nice. :aok
The p38 with the glass nose (I believe it was a modified J) and a bomb site would be greatly useful, where the heavy bombers would be excessive these could come in high and fast and hit accurately then egress quickly without having to dive onto their target like their standard 38 breteren.:aok
(Ps. forgive me if this was already asked for):D

you want a p-38 turned into a heavy bomber!?

No. He's talking about the "Droop Snoot" P-38. Basically the lead P-38 would lead a large flight of P-38's and once the lead P-38 had dropped his ordinance, the rest of them would drop theirs as well. The only problem is that they had no way of fighting due to the removal of the guns.

Great, just what we need, a formation of 3 P-38's loaded with ordnance, led by an unarmed P-38. Uh, no thanks.

I may actually fly with ord now. :)
Something SAPP can influence. :noid

Oh yeah the droop snoot would be great, no formations though cause it is a fighter chassis, though if you had some squadees you could make up a formation. It would be great. :D

While I am not usually one to do this and be so self serveing but......

i read in a book that there was another P38 version it was basicly the P38L but it had a extra seat behind the pilot for the radar opperator and there was a dome mounted under the nose that had radar in it it seemed to me that they should have or could have added a turret that the radar opperator opperated lol but whatever:aok

P-38M, which was a night fighter. And no, they couldn't have added a turret. Sheesh, kids these days...

Why would anyone wanna add a big smurfy turret on such a sleek beautiful aircraft. If you want a fighter with a turret go look up a disaster known as the DEFIANT....

If you want a good fighter with a turret packing the 4x.50cal in it look no more the P61 Black Widow is it. It had 4x20mm in the ventral forward firing position as well as a radar in the nose. I believe it had a crew of 3.
Great night fighter.

So true, so true.
They should have called it the "DEVIANT".

As tough of a bird as it was to work, its sure pretty!

Yeah that defiant was a disaster and was pulled from service, but the P61 saw service with varants with the top turret and without (the turret was a streamlined remotely controlled turret), while still packing the cannons.
And... I still think the Droop Snoot P38J would be great, even more so if the P38's bombload was correctly reflected at almost 4,000LBS. That would be great to conduct raids with, escourted by a few regualr 38Js for defence. :D
