Post by: DAVENRINO on June 06, 2007, 07:14:51 PM: Here is a good article on the ceremony at Midway. I flew a Military Historical tour there with about 130 people, including two of the Midway vets. We spent 8 hours there and attended the ceremony.

The rest of my pictures are just more shots from the air and then the people and half a million Gooney birds on the ground. We had to wait on the taxi in for the fire dept to pick up an albatross on the tawiway, as they don't move. We had to depart after dark when there is less bird activity on the runway.

The best part of the ceremony was the presentation of the Memorial Wreath and honoring the two vets we brought. It was pretty emotional for them as well as everyone else.

We had the flight deck door open from Honolulu to Midway and talked to a lot of interesting folks. We circled the atoll once in each direction so everyone could get pictures. I was honored to chat with Bill Tunstall, a Plane Captain for Torpedo bombers on the Hornet at Midway. He was also aboard for the famous Doolittle Raid.

Bet the Birds are alot worse there now that we're not sucking them up our turbofans .

P.s, See Raptor told ya the water was blue green there . :D
