Title: Features to assist filmmaking
Post by: yuto on June 04, 2007, 12:26:48 AM
After being inspired by some reallly well-made IL-2 music videos, I've thought about doing the same with AH.  Now this would be more than your typical FRAPS-based continuous gun came footage accompanied by some techno beat.    No, I wanted to make something that uses real-looking cinematography, a real plot, and most importantly, good sensible music that complements it, with good timing and continuity.  What AH may lack in eye candy, I wanted to make up for in pure artistic talent (what little I have).

Basically, any camera shot that cannot realistically be obtained via a camera and a chase plane in real life I wanted to avoid, since I think it detracts from the authenticity of the shot.  In the past, I have set up H2H arenas with the intent of getting a few volunteers to act at an engagement, all the while I would hang from a parachute with the recorder (ctrl+R) turned on.  The guncam option in film recorder comes in handy for this.

What I was hoping to be able to do was to obtain footage that looks to be filmed from a hand-held camera by using mouselook to manually track a moving target.  Unfortunately, this feature is not available in film viewer.  I suppose one could capture live footage in-game where mouselook is available, but then the cockpit cannot be made invisible via the 'guncam' option.  Padlock would be a less desirable alternative, but I've found that it does not work with the icons turned off.  This is unfortunate because I would rather leave icons off to preserve the looks of the footage.

I know these considerations would be low on your list of priorities, but is there any chance they can be incorporated into a patch some time in the future?

Thanks,
Yuto
