So, I posted this a bit soon and realized that there was an actual forum for this sort of rant, oops.
I'm somewhat new to the game (really new actually considering how long most of you have been playing) but I have a big background in WWII aircraft as my father sells and collects WWII aircraft surplus for a living. So, we've been talking about the game and the planes offered and what they don't offer. I know this is a game, and it'd be extremely difficult, if not completely impossible (atleast impractical) to include every aircraft from the era. There were more models and variations of aircraft during this war than any other, probably why it holds such allure and mystique.
So, to my point. What, out of the following list would you guys like to see in the game? Heck, I'd even like to see what everyone else would really like to see. Here is a short list that I've compiled that I wish we could fly.
Dornier Do 335 "Arrow": Not a highly produced aircraft, only 38 built with a very limited service history and , but cool nonetheless. I think it'd make a great fighter/bomber.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_Do_335 (http://)
F8F Bearcat: According to the In Action book, on 16 August, 1945, the USS Langley was steaming across the Pacific, her decks loaded with F8F-1 Bearcats, when news that WWII had ended. So it didn't actually see combat, but I feel strongly that this would be a dominant fighter with a stellar physical perfomance sheet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F8F (http://)
F7F Tigercat: This is a really neat plane and goes to show how much the war advanced aircraft technology in such a short time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F7F (http://)
I guess my justification for wishing we had these non-combat aircraft is on the basis of the existance of the AR234, although it did see combat, it was very limited. So I'd hope that if Christmas was to come early some year, that HTC would fudge a bit and allow these planes.
Also, what about night fighters and actual night time on the maps? Most of the planes are already there, A-20=P-70, Ju-88, P-38L=P-38M, Mosquito. And... what about adding a P-61? I'm sure that creating an entire night map would be a serious pain in the arse along with adding some sort of radar to the aircraft, but I figure, if you're gonna dream, dream big no?
If anything, I think it'd be far better to do a poll for planes to have us ultimately vote on instead of insulting us with suggesting the addition of such pathetic aircraft as the P-39.
Just my two cents, I'm sure I'll get flamed for it, but I'm sure it'll make you feel better when you shoot me down :)
JeepinAZ (That's my name on the game)
-
Ta152 and Me163 were much more limited than the Ar234. It actually saw a fair amount of use.
The problem with adding things like those is that they open a rather large and unpleasant can of worms, namely the "I want my almost made it superplane too!" endless whines. I can list a lot of them without looking anything up in a book or even on google.
-
While very interesting, I highly doubt we will see any of those listed short of spending some serious cash on Scotch for a bribe to Hitech.

LOL, I do not believe that we will find that Scotch he likes at Costco... ;)
-
Well... it doesn't hurt to dream big no? Heck, you never know, Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny could show up at my front door and tell me I got my planes on AH...
-
Don't forget that there's also about a dozen or more vastly needed aircraft that aren't in the game yet.

D-520
And on and on and on, all of which are more needed that those you listed.
-
Ok, so I was only off by 30 planes or so. But what Karnak said.
-
I had put a P-61 on there, if you had read my section about night fighters.
-
But most of your suggestions were airplanes which had absolutely no impact on the war, and pretty much never showed their face in combat.
-
As I recall, I did put that the planes had little impact, if no impact on the war. Now we're not fighting the war all over again. The 262 didn't turn the tide for the Germans but we have it.
I'm just saying planes that would be fun or have an advantage in the game. I'm not here to spark a super heated debate, I just wanted to know what other people would like to have if they could have their dream aircraft.
Hell, I'd even like to see a Pershing Tank. Talk about a Tiger Killer. If I remember correctly, there were more of those than the Firefly.
-
ithink we need a few a/c desp none more:
for scenarios:
he111
g4m betty
maybe another italian fighter or two(g2 series)
and definatly the oscar
all other catagories are well represented :)
edit: and a private gloster meteor for me plz;)

You either remember incorrectly or never knew. There were far, far, far more Firefly Vcs during WWII than there were Pershings and it was in combat long before the Pershing.
I may remember this wrong, but I think I saw some numbers that put the Firefly's 17lb gun as having the best penetration of any tank gun in WWII.

Good List Evenhaim!
IMXLR8N, Bearcat never saw combat in WWII, that puts it outside the realm of potential planes right there. Plus if you did add it, it would have to be highly perked or it would unbalance things. So why bother?
Night fighters were a very minor minority compared to the vast number of planes that actually flew and saw combat. Plus you can't have a night fighter without having at least 8 hours of darkness in which to go hunt. Currently people get hugely upset about 20 minutes of dusk. Who's going to pay to play in 8 hours of darkness? See what that does to your nightfighters? Again, shoulder shrug, why bother?
DO335 Arrow, hmmm ok, late war plane, very few in production.
I guess after ever other plane that has been asked for BEFORE the arrow is in the game I'd be ok with adding it.
But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting.
There is a very big list of badly needed planes. You didn't include any of them at all, just late war monsters. Sorry but AH has enough of those at the moment.

I would LOVE to see the- HE219 A7- bomber killer.
an absolutely devastating plane.!!!
408 mph
armament from hell!!!
i know this one wasn,t on your list.
but it should have been!!--lol
your buddy,
Boner
-
He-219... Gotta love the armament, but... 400mph? Pathetic compard to 109K4, P51D, even the the 190D, all of which break 400MPH on WEP before even reaching 10K alt. Hell even the P47D40 breaks 400mph by 15k.
400mph top speed isn't very fast, especially considering the speeds bombers fly at in this game. Consider the Hellcat and the D-hog are 400mph planes. They're not considered speed demons in this game, at all.
EDIT: P.S. for anybody that's making requests:
HTC has 3 criteria:
- production planes (no prototypes)
- saw combat (self explanatory)
- at least in unit strength
The F8F and F7F did not see combat before war's end. The Do335 was still in development and none had been sent to any units (although a prototype or two may have "seen combat" in that they were attacked during testing). None of those aircraft meet the criteria.
-
400mph is slow compared to most fighters but with a bomber you have to consider how hard it would be to attack them. Most of our buffs are traveling around the 200mph mark and you can dance around them with no problem. Try that at 400 mph. You may get one pass head on or from above, but then your only option is from behind because your gonna have to catch back up after that first pass. Not good with a bomber with a good defence.
-
HE219 will fly under the bombers once!!
game over.
thats if those upward firing 30mm guns really work--lol

In this game I've YET to find a bomber (other than one rare instance) that was flying that slow. More often than not, they travel at 270 or faster. That's significantly faster than a mere "200" and makes all the difference in the world. Trust me. I've probably shot down thousands of bombers in this game.
-
oops, I meant to say 250mph, sorry about that. I also should have said 400mph is slow compared to SOME fighters.

The one offline doesnt count. :p
-
400 mph is either slow... or extremely fast, depending on the altitude which the aircraft hits it.
IMXLR8N, loved the way you cleverly disguised your multiple America plane request with one for a German plane first :D
-
He219 never hit 400mph in service. Heinkle claimed it could do 419mph in order to sell it to the RLM, but it never came close in practice.

Well, I'm a big fan of planes other than American iron. The Arrow was the biggest one I could think of and that wasn't my whole list. I was just trying to spark a "If Santa Clause existed" scenario and see what other people wished they could have. I didn't realize that HTC had a "must see combat" clause, but it makes sense in the realm of the game.
I guess I'm just fascinated with how much technology advanced by war's end. Started off with piston fighters barely reaching 500mph and open fuselage bombers and ended with jet fighters and pressurized bombers with remotely operated turrets.
I'm not holding my breath and hoping for an Arrow or Bearcat, but one could dream right? I'd also have to agree with how high the ENY would have to be on a F8F, but you gotta admit that a climb (after a run of 115 feet) of 10,000 feet in 94 seconds would be pretty fun.
So, since I've seen a few lists, I'd still like to see what they'd like to be able to fly (within the realm of the game) if you could have your dream aircraft. No F-15 or P-51 with sidewinder requests.... :D
-
Bearcat will never be put in the game, it never saw combat. Im a huge lufttard but even I dont think the Do 335 should be in the game. I dont know alot about it but I do know none were in squad use. As krusty said it may have seen combat, but any german plane that up'd at that time was attacked. (It was kind od a trail by fire)
I agree with most of Karnak's list. I only see one that I dont like (we all know the one)

I would be happy if we could just have schrage musik for the 110 to play around with.

ty i agree
but we need that update already my b25 keeps getting fuel hits and they need to fix damage model on her XD

This is a good place to start looking for aircraft we need in AH (the World War II ones of course, i am not asking for a Cessna ;))

PE-2
The Petlyakov Pe-2 nicknamed "Pawn" was a Soviet dive bomber aircraft used during World War II. It was fast and maneuverable yet durable, and was manufactured in large numbers.
In total, around 11,400 Pe-2s were built
The Heinkel He 111 was the primary Luftwaffe medium bomber during the early stages of World War II, and is perhaps the most famous symbol of the German side of the Battle of Britain. Aprox 7300 produced
Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa ( "Peregrine Falcon") was a single-engined land-based fighter used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force in World War II. About 5919 produced
T-6 Texan
It was a single-engine advanced trainer aircraft designed by North American Aviation, used to train fighter pilots. Aprox 15,495 built
Preferably it would come with a switch, so that trainers and students could both be in the same plane, and take turns at the controls. Or so a trainer could takeoff, then hand over control to student etc. I know its a trainer, but virtually every US fighter pilot spent time in one of these before going on to the combat birds.
P-39
The Bell P-39 Aircobra was one of the principal American fighter aircraft in service at the start of World War II. Although its mid-engine placement was innovative, the P-39 design was handicapped by the lack of an efficient turbo-supercharger, limiting it to low-altitude work, although the type was utilized with great success by the Soviet Air Force.
Number built 9,584

There we go ghosth.:aok

The public guesswork consensus on criteria for possible plane introduction is;
1) actual production model
(rules out experimental/prototype/preproduction planes)
2) official placement and combat service in a designated combat unit
(rules out trial combat/planes with no combat record with active engagement)
3) introduced before VJ day
(rules out planes after August 15th of '45)
Those that fall under above three categories are then prioritized by their use in the MA, scenarios, planned CT, and etc etc..

Wellington :)
Or Meteor III

I don't believe it is guess-work. I think HTC has listed these at different times. Don't ask me to bring up links though, it's been too damn long to go find 'em.

I,m not sure of that, you,re probably right.
but either way it IS fast for what it is---a bomber killer
awesome speed AND armament!!
