Title: Learning Lessons
Post by: BaldEagl on June 10, 2007, 03:34:02 AM
I used to always give and return 's if I was in a good fight, win or lose.  Over the past two days I encountered the same guy several times and went 1 for 4-5 against him.  After every fight he sent me a , even after our last fight where I ran out of fuel, was gliding to ditch, he missed, I ditched but then he got the kill anyway as I ended flight.  By the last death I was sick of it.  Enough already.  You beat me.  Quit rubbing it in!  No for you!

Lesson:  I will no longer a defeated opponent unless they me first.

I started a squad with mostly experienced players.  I didn't want to be a noob herder.  I wanted solid players beside me when I flew and haven't been dissapointed but, tonight I was in MW working on a captured VB with a relative noob.  While he made mistakes I had a good time flying with him and together we finally captured the base (it was defended by one guy.  I was flying a F6F-5 and my countryman was switching between a 110 and a goon so we were never able to take all the hangers down).

Lesson:  Even noobs can do ok with a little help and can be as fun as experienced players to fly with.

What lessons have you learned lately?

Teach new pilots the ropes.
Take them under your wing, always watch over them.

If they die, its your fault.

You before them.
In return they will do the same unto you.

Nothing lost, only more gained.

For me, sending salutes (win or lose) depends greatly on the situation. I fly my share of bombers, and it's very refreshing to go up against an opponent (such as Simaril, or DakOne ;) ) that really knows what he's doing when it comes down to decimating my planes.

I figure it could go either way, either he could fry me, I could kill him, or it could be a draw. In the end it usually is a hell of a fight, and usually I send a in appreciation of that.

I'm not real great in fighters, but when I end up in a real heart-pounder fight with someone (typically a turn-fight), in the end I send them a either way it goes.

If I kill someone he's dead. I move on. If I die, I take back off. That's it.

I get an salutes all the time. It has nothing to do with killing or being killed. It has to do with someone saying "Hi" and my returning the salutation to a friend.

This is how I met Plmmer.  After about 9 times of him schooling me in his F6F, he still gave me a ... and still to this day he does.  He taught me alot in that hour or so carnage and still have fun.
But I have also learned that shooting cutes in 262's is fun.  My "lag switch" still doesn't work right.  The tree's in the new version have a 'gravitational pull machine' implanted in them and you still lose to them.  Let the newb shoot at you when he is friendly (he will learn his lesson).  Vulching is still fun, especially when it is a die-hard AH-er.  And don't worry Ack-Ack, just rub some cream on it.... the rash will go away. :D

Heh, you're being too sensitive!  I salute everyone, every time, win, lose or draw.  There's no taunting involved, it's a friendly wave after a friendly fight.

- oldman (...well....I won't salute someone who vulched me, now that I think of it....)
