Title: Neon Sign
Post by: Daubie on June 10, 2007, 02:35:40 PM
Hi,

Get rid of it.

It gives away my position in a lot of situations.

Make it like real life and make it so if one goofs, friendly-fire happens.

I realize HTC won't do this, as to many years as, "It works!"  I imagine most here would not like it.  But, hey, this is a wish list!

Take it one more step and drop the radar, or at least make one arena under these conditions would be much more realistic.  I do see in the Scenario's, radar is off---this is good.

How exactly do you tell the difference between a rook, knight or bishop
109?  Also you can hit Alt-I and turn off the icons..so feel free to do so.

To get rid of icons, first get us a real 3d non-pixeled view on the world with real depth perception, where a 3k distant plance isn't just a mere dot on the screen.

In scenarios you have a clearly defined goal/target. In MA you haven't. So we need a kind of dar.

Hi,

Like real squadrons do, squadron id's painted on the plane, much like how squadrons within AHII have their decal on the cowl.  Instead of like now with planes of designated country paint jobs as Germany, Italy, USA. Change color schemes to Country IDs of Rook, Bishop, Knight.  This means one has to get a whole lot closer to do a visual ID.  Probably could see the difference in zoom, out of guns range.

Turning off my Icon with Alt/I will not stop the bad guy from seeing me coming when he has his turned on.

It could be done; but it won't be; the reprogramming alone would be a nightmare.  Plus the membership would whine so much about the changes.

It's a wish list...

I'm happy the way it is, not complaining one bit, even don't mind the arena caps.

You shoot a friendly, you get killed.

IF you could even learn every squad marking and IF you knew where every member of every squad was flying by the time you got in close enough to identify them it would be too late.

Icons are a good thing for gameplay sake.  Turn all icons off and see what your playing experience will be like!  Especially the first time you end up in a furball! :lol

I still wish we had the old icon system but thats just a minor wish.

Press Z and hold down a bracket key untl it zooms all the way in. This is the 1:1 ratio of real life size to monitor size.

When everyone gets monitors large enough to display things that size without any reduction, we might drop icons.

You can set up a H2H room with all these features.

Make all your 'improvements' and invite some friends.

See how long they stay...lol.

Icons cannot be forced off. Their minimum range is 3k.

I find this a good rule of thumb concerning wishes...if it takes something
away that is already implemented, generally not a good idea.

If it doesn't add to gameplay, why change it?

I wish the neon billboards where slightly smaller and less obvious, or perhaps less bright coloured or something. Its all but impossible to try sneak up on someone.
Mind you i remember the enormous mega neon billboards AH used to have in the beta days - way over the top!

Use the sun and/or your enemies blind spots.

It is kind of hard though.
I mean, you have this bright red icon flying at you...

Yer, i do, but its a lot harder to be un-noticed than i think it should be. People can just do a quick map-check then a fast 180 head spin and your given away trying to position yourself in a blindspot most of the time. Too easy to be spotted. People dont need to learn good sky-scanning techniques.

I see no bright red icon when my enemy comes right out of the sun...

Don't tell him about KS. I say let him find out for himself. That's what I do when some dweeb friendly starts spraying at me. :D
Title: KS (killshooter)
Post by: Daubie on June 10, 2007, 10:07:38 PM
I've seen noobier guys than me pull that and go poof.  I didn't know the term for it.  I try to play with respect in here, and only kill the bad guys, no matter what country I'm playing for at the time {;^)
I've never understood "rules of engagement" while in combat like we want a sanitary, civilized kill, instead of fight to win and quit the politics.  In the case of my "wish list" suggestion, turn killshooter off.

Tanking is different.  In zoom thru the artillery sniper scope, usually the icons are off except for guys really close.  I have hesitated just long enough to make sure they are enemy and that two or three second difference means I am dead, usually.   So if you guys occasionally tank and I do a friendly fire accident, nothing personal, because I won't hesitate the next time.

Tonight I got nailed by exactly what I do to the other guy, I sneak up on his six usually below him.  I saw the tracer rounds and I actually jumped out of my chair, it startled me.  I was looking around, he jumped me from behind, I never saw him.  I've got 26 views setup in my top hat and I was at 10,000 feet.  His red dot was not within the white radar circle in my radar map.  He came in fast.  I was alone.

Last night I got a guy, I was in my guns solution to vaporize him at 200 feet with cannon as I snuck up on him.  The last second he broke right, but I still got him.  I was below radar most of the time and I must have popped up above it, while my SA got side tracked getting tunnel vision concentrating in the gunsight recticle.

Fun game.

Killshooter will always be on, when it is off the arena turns into a free for all.  Hell, so many sweetheartbags play this game they had to turn it on in the DA.  Killshooter also applys to GV's so you can't "friendly fire" someone in a tank either.

As far as the icons go some have horrible SA, others don't.  I really don't feel like the icons make much difference in that regard.  I would not be opposed to shortening icon range though.

I hope you also realize that icons are on for friendlies in GVs out to 6k as well.

5 min with killshooter off would change your mind.

Team killing fps squeakers have invaded AH. You'd be hard pressed to find a front line base you could up from.

Stupid me, I'm so dumb!

I withdraw my request.

I like the game exactly the way it is.  Fun game.

My only complaint against  the icons is when you have sneaked a GV into a forest behind a base and are totally invisible from the air some pilot sees your icon as he is passing and blows the crap out of you. He never saw your GV, he was never going to see your GV but he did catch the blip of the icon as he thundered past and bombed the icon.  That is so frustrating.

so you like to sneak behind people and shoot them? that si your method? hope and pray they don't see you. What if they do then what do you do?

i guess i am different, i like them to know i'm there. What fun is t sneaking up on unsuspecting nmez and shooting them down? that's why they are "fights"

Who said sneak up and shoot people, sneak up in a M3 behind the 5 tanks on a GV base and do a mad dash and drop for a base take while they are target fixated on my squad mates.

The rest of the people discussing this topic were talking about it before you got here.

The point of icons on GVs is so that planes /can/ see you. A tank in real life kicks up dusk and smoke, makes thunderous noise, and is much larger from the plane's perspective than it is in the game.
