12 O’ Clock High
My uncle, S/Sgt. Albert Carl Davis, 100th Bomber Group 351st Sqn. passed away this week.
He was the waist gunner on the Piccadilly Lily, one of the finest men I have ever met.

We all know his plane from the movie “12 O’clock High” A fictional account based on the aircraft upon which he served. He completed his tour before the Lily’s second mission to Bremen, when it was downed by flak.
If that was lucky, I was lucky to have known him. He fostered my interest in military aviation.

To my hero
When asked by my little brother (not so little anymore), what it was like, he said “It was a rush”
I bet it was… He will live in my heart forever.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm sorry for your loss.
That's something that he flew on that bird as Bernie Lay, who wrote the book, flew co-pilot on the Lily on the Schweinfurt-Regensberg mission that the fictional accout is based on.
I hope you got lots of stories and wrote them all down to pass on
