Just a word of note that everyone should run out and buy the latest issue of AirPower magazine.
They rate World War II's Major Airforces plane by plane.
"..but Aviation History already did that.."
Aviation History magazine is nice, but nothing beats AirPower and Wings for historical photographs and info. Simply the best out there.
Below is a list of the planes featured in the magazine. Funny, looks like my AH wish list...

I HIGHLY suggest everyone subscribe to this magazine. It's one of the best investements I've ever made in regards to my interest in WWII Aviation History.
To illustrate the type of writings you'll get, here's a quote off of their site:
In WINGS and AIRPOWER you'll find more photo coverage than in any other aviation magazine on the market. You Won't Find Handout Filler Material Masquerading As History, Nor Will You Get "Bombs Over Berlin," a Hurry Up History Of The B-17 Consisting Of Six Pages Of Elementary Text,
Five Tired Archive Photos And Yet Another Advertiser's Gee Whiz Rendering Of A Flying Fortress. What You Will Get Are Scores Of Intelligently Captioned, Rare Photos, Many Of Which Have Never Been Published - Many Of Them In Color - Plus Knowledgeable Reporting And Insight Worthy Of Your Time And Interest.
