Logged on tonight for squad night, and we see AvA is populated!
Arena message states, "be a gentlemen...do not HO, vulch, or gank."
First engagement a Hurri2C HO's my squaddie.
Second engagement we have four and they come in with 8 from 5k higher our alt.
Third engagement a P38 HO's another squaddie on takeoff.
So we leave, and go into LW Blue.
First mission, we try to up P-47D-25s. Can't though....ENY is at 25. Twentyfive.
The frickin' ENY is at 25.
We leave LW Blue and attempt to get into LW Orange. Can't...it's full. Repeated disconnecting and rejoin attempts don't raise the player limit. It stays full, and we're effectively done for the night because everyone is so disgusted.
Including me.
This game really is going downhill in my opinion.
*edit*
Btw flame me all you want but I just needed to vent my frustration...it was just one thing after another.
-
Gank? Is that a fishing term?
-
It said AVOID HO's and Ganging's******
-
Gee, and an ENY of 25? Sounds like what Bishops deal with a lot.
But tonight, Bishops had 38 players, while the other sides had 80+ players each. That is why the ENY was so high. And I agree, the arena cap really blows when ya can't join your squad.

Eny of 25 you say, wow that is rough.
Tell me, did it ever occur to you to jump to the low numbers side?
Bet you and your whole squad could have.

I know how u feel. I personally balive that ENY makes NO DIFFERENCE in the war or outcome of battles. Good pilots in High ENY planes can take down LAs all day long. I really thing its something High Tech should do away with.
Also, on the other hand it might make some of the country jumpers go back to the lower numberd countries. I personally think it just wrecks the game.
-
Overall I dont like ENY. The only benefit I've found in it is when outnumbered, you get paid more for kills of the enemy and destruction of their crap. Having to fly with ENY's in the high 20's just gets old when it last for a long time. I love my 190A8 to go bomber hunting with and do ground attack, on a rare occasion I can win a dogfight, I'm told when I get my joystick dofighting will be much better than with the mouse. The hurricane 1 turns well, but that engine is a killer....
As for the Arena Limits: why not just open it up so everyone could be in one arena together if we want too? We do pay to play together, especially with our squaddies. The Commercial makes mention of forming squads, but fails to mention that due to Arena Caps, you might be forced to fight in an Arena that's all but a pig roast in terms of action. Have at least one Arena with a much higher cap than the 450 ive seen once as a capacity. That's my .25 cents. :noid

eny restrictions seldomly bothers me. it certainly hasn't ruined the game for me. I agree with this practice.
I think it should be extended to the point where a team with far too many players has no ordnance available anywhere thereby limiting their ability to roll bases.
eny limit the 110G and no bombs is a beautiful thing.
-
Consider joining Squad ops, it is IMO the best flying that AH has to offer.
No arena caps, no ENY limits, orders come out ahead of time so you have time to practice in the plane you'll be flying. One life event, so no pork & augers, fewer HO's. Gang bang or horde, well that depends on how big your squad is and who you run into. It can happen, but it doesn't happen every time.
-
I thought I saw someone suggest once that rather than have ENY lock out planes outright, it makes them perked instead.
One big problem I think with the current ENY setup is that I've only ever seen one country really get nailed by ENY. Even if two countries are within 10-20 players of each other, if the third is small enough that ENY comes into effect only one country gets slammed (happened to Rooks the other night. Rooks had 120, Bish had 100, Nits had 70-something. Rooks had an ENY of 16. Bish had an ENY of 1). So areas where the Nits were fighting the Rooks ENY was in theory doing its job. However the Bish the could gang-bang the Nits with late-war uber rides while the Rooks were unfairly penalized against the Bish even though the numbers weren't uneven enough to justify the ENY difference.

halcyon, is the reason that you didn't switch to the low numbered side:
1) Because some squadmates couldn't (timer)
2) Because you guys have a loyalty to one side over others
3) The numbers were so far off that it would disrupt squadnight to be on the low side.
4) Some other reason.
I'm simply asking - on the surface the simple solution "sounds like" switch sides - but simple solutions have a way of being problematic as the situation grows more complex.

What Ghosth said x10. Personally I find FSO and other events a million times more rewarding than MA play. It's great bonding for squads as well.
Think about it. Usually in the MA, even if your squad is all set up for a coordinated strike/whatever, odds are the other side isn't. With events, there is a fixed objective, and you KNOW the other side is going to be just as organized (if not more) as your side. Makes for MUCH better fighting if the CIC's are doing their jobs and making sure everything's as fair as possible.
Plus the event logs give a really neat picture of who did what during the event.
As a CO, you will be expected to handle some details for your flight/squad, such as interpreting orders and making sure everyone is on the same page (get used to saying "100% fuel, bombs and rockets" about fifty times).
It's great. Without the events, I doubt I'd still be playing AH. A lot of times the level of stupidity in the MA drives me off in frustration, that's not why I play games.

We were flying knights, which had significantly fewer bases then the other two countries. (and were losing them at a higher rate then taking bases back)
Even so, two squadmates were already flying in the arena at the time, helping to gain bases. As soon as the rest of us logged on, we weren't going to switch sides and take back the bases we had just captured.
We do have somewhat of a loyalty to Knights, and we fly our missions for the thrill of tactical success, not kill/death ratio.

Read the MOTD again please. Why do people think the AvA is some fairy land where no one does anything bad. Lately there has been an influx of MAers who bring they're MA play into the arena. The AvA vets hardly EVER vulch. (only time I do is we are fighting and you run to the ack and try to land) If you fly into a horde dont think that squadies are going to sit back and watch thier buddies get killed. HOing is something that a few dweebs do. I could name them but youll know them in the first minute of fighting them.

Last night was funny, Larry because I could tell you were waiting for okllok to HO you, every time we passed nose to nose I could see you flinching, cause you thought I might be him.

Read the MOTD again? What for? To read the same bit about fairness and no HO'ing and all that bullcrap?
I read it once, saw what it said, then observed something completely different.
My squad and I left the arena.
'Nuff said.

what larry says is true. typically there are good fights in the AvA as long as the regulars are there. caveat, there are so few regulars any more that the Ava has become a crappy microcosm of the MA with retarded planesets.
aside from the above the few remaining players have oh so fragile egos and have become such handwringers that in my case it is no fun to play in there anymore.
one day I decided to not return and I haven't.
-
The MOTD said nothing about don't HO. It said try not to. We have one tard in the AvA who trys for the HO every time. You said your squad left because of the HO and ganging, but where did you go....MA? Hands down the flights in the AvA even on it worst day would be 10x better then the MAs. Your trashing an arena, from the looks at it one time, and you deside to come on the BBS whining like the AvA is a bad place. You can on a day when we had the dweebest player on (okllok), he makes me leave sometimes because his first move in ever flight is the HO, even if you get past that he'll try again and again.

Did you ever consider that numbers on a team often don't depict the actual battle in the air?
For instance tonight. in orange, like usual Bish and Knight are barely fighting each other. Rooks getting attacked full force at both ends, yet at one point we were hit with 15 ENY regardless of the actual fact that we were out numbered at both ends.
So do we switch to the Bish and make that battle against the rooks even more unbalanced or do we switch to the Nits and make it unbalanced there?
Or better yet, just log off because ENY is a joke..

Just because the sign says NO doesn't mean they won't.You must always be ready for the un-expected.Learn to avoid.
There was about 20 of us in the AvA last night on channel 231 and we didn't HO each other but we sure expected it.
Why up from a vulched field?????
The AvA has always been and will always be a way better place to fly IMHO
the people you encounter are way more friendly and they Don't runaway as much as they do in the MA.Good clean fights is what i always encounter in the AvA.
It is true that there are some newer players in the AvA(which is always a good thing) and it may take some time for them to realize the AvA isn't just like the MA and they will eventually see that, or maybe someone could take the time to inform them.
Either way i am sorry to hear your experience was a bad one.Stop by Tuesday night around 10PM eastern, i know you'll have more FUN the next time around.

..
You could have switched to bish and taken the fight to the nits, since you said they weren't fighting.*
*Which is usually whiny BS as of course the team w/ the higher numbers is going to have more of their opponents focus on them, they present more targets. Many people, me included, log in and join the country w/ the fewest numbers... bish or nit lately, then head to the biggest enemy darbar(typically the rook horde).
get out of the horde. Trust me, it's fun.
I thought I saw someone suggest once that rather than have ENY lock out planes outright, it makes them perked instead.
Unfortunately, some of us dweebs have over 40k perk points.

I normally always fly out of the hoard.. I can't stand furballs because I want to earn my kills and I don't want a kill I've worked on taken by the next guy that happened to fly by.
I've switched sides many times in the past, when this kind of thing was going on. Typically what happens is You go fly around some other base in the dar to let them know you are there and no one comes up.
Why? Probably because they figure you will just BnZ them and lets faces it, rarely is one con ever a threat to a base. So if you do happen to get lucky and get someone to up it's likely a noob that's not much of a challenge.
So end resualt he ups once or twice you kill him and he gets tired of dying.

Rgr that, after that went down we all switched to fighting over the channel.
Been some really good players in there massed together at once, always makes for a dang good time sorry ya missed it.
