Make every ship burn when hit, not just the CV.
Put torps on the DEs, and let them reload 30 minutes after being fired.

yeah, if you have even seen Sink the Bismark, when they are hitting the ships, smoke comes up. actually you rarely see fire...just smoke is usally seen more.

Agree, smoke would be good. Don't need the fire animation.
Agree, Destroyers were commonly equipped with torpedo's.
Would also love to be able to spawn to a Destroyers command deck. Take control of it. Choose to steam ahead for anti pt/Aircraft screen, lay smoke, fire torps at enemy TG, etc.

Have you ever seen the Famous Painting of the 3 Jap carriers burning at Midway...
It was made from the eye witness account of Ens. George Gay...
Lots of Fire!!!
Also the film of the USS Franklin, hit during the Okinawa invasion...
Burning Bigtime!!!
But whatever, it really doesn't matter....

Problem with the fire on CV's is people can see the FIRE from 15 miles out better than the smoke coming off it.
Make the smoke larger, and capable of reaching higher into the air.
Take the fire, and make it smaller.
Easy fix, change fire size.
Make CV smoke "larger/thicker" have a longer run time so it keep rising.

Thats because fuel laiden aircraft and lines were exposed when the CV's were struck
I actually have some B/W photos of the USS Franklin and she was under air attack. One still shows the debris flying just moments after being hit by a bomb

I like the idea of the other ships burning, and the torps were the mainstay of the destroyer's armament. The 5 inch guns were of little effect when used agaist larger ships.

Reload Torpedo's??? As far as I know, US destroyers had no reload ability...
Fletcher class, had 8 tubes only...
The only DD's that did, were the Japanese Fubuki class DD's.. I think some of their later "Kazi" classes did as well.... Not sure tho...

OdinGrunherze Sir, are you saying the Destroyers had to go 3000 miles back to port to reload torp tubes? Because I'd have a very hard time believing that.

Yes I speak the truth, really, no kiddin.... There was replenishment at sea.. But I've never heard of them doing that with Torp's....
The thing that was so revolutionary about the Jap Fubuki's was the Torp reloads... 24in long lance too... The best in the world, at the time...
I was just doing a little research, some of their later DD's had 17 tubes...
Plus reloads... WOW....

Yes as far as the burning ships I didnt mean to say from torp hits although Im sure some torp hits caused fire. Basically any ship that gets hit by ord would be cool to burn. The tall smoke idea would be nice too.
Nothings says we couldnt have the Kagero DD instead of the Fletcher :)

I'd rather see the DDs get 5" guns than torpedo tubes - what are they going to shoot torps at? PTs?? As it is now, the 40mm on the PT boat gives them the gunnery advantage against the DDs mannable 20mms. Give the DDs 5" guns fore & aft and let them be mannable - it improves the ack cover for the CV group, and lets them fight it out with the PTs.

I honestly didn't realize that the DD's in the game, have no main guns... I just went and looked, WOW they don't...LOL, thats sooooo funny....:rofl
Guns and Torps for the DD's... YES!!!
Someday, I hope that they address that problem... Among others...

funny now we have missles that can target ships 1/2 way across the world...

I hope that if guns and torps are ever added to the DDs, that they separate the fleets into battle groups where you can have some good gun / torp action.

What the task group needs is the ability to make a smoke screen.

Definately...the Sherman can do it for the tanks...why not PTs for the fleet. It already has a smoke generator on the stern. Id say the DEs too but there is so little control of them.
