Update the 3d models on the ships to AH2 standards, and add Japanese CV's and fleet escorts.
:)
-
yes
of course adding torpedos and fire/smoke effects, fleet formation choice, and whether its a CV, surface, or transport TF.
Oh...and starshells
-
All this talk about Destroyers and Torp's, has given me a real desire to engage in a naval surface action... Gun blasts in the dark, searchlights, burning and exploding ships.... Cool stuff man!!!
So I'm heading to the PCgame store, to buy a stand alone game...
I can't get what I crave on AH... At least for now...
Any suggestions on game Titles???

Some variety in the aircraft carrier, battleship department would be very nice. Some famous warships from Axis and Allies would be coool. Yorktown, Prinz Eugen, Arkroyal, anyone?
-
I would like to see marine infantry ships (troops & supplies objects) dispersal ships (VH object) munitions ships (ammo objects) and fuel tankers (fuel objects) with the main fleet
Parts (internal hangers) of the CV could also be set as BH objects (2), VH objects(3) an ammo object (1) a fuel object (1).
The general CV object could then be significantly hardenend above the water line.
WAy point setting would permit fleets to apparantly travel close to land but infact the main body of the fleet would stand off with only the Marine and dispersal ships (plus a couple of escorts) following the way point to a dispersal point.
given this then
All objects would be viable targets which can be disabled........ (ships would smoke and or list and CV components would smoke or burn).
The fleets would be chased by resource barges (like the ones used now at ports etc)and turning the fleets toward its barges (ie reversing direction) would enable quicker repair.
These barges only spawn if the origin port is in freindly hands
Barges would spawn at set distance from the CV in a direction dictated by the origin port location.
LVT's could launch from the dispersal ships when their proximity to the shore line was close enough.
Destorying the CV would cause the fleet to turn for its origin port. If the origin port had been captured then the fleet will surrender upon arrival and wait until a new CV was built.
The above causes a fleet to suffer all the problems of attrition with the oppurtunity to recover from them whilst at sea. Basically whilst the origin port is held and the CV is a float anything can be repaired.
It provides more opportunities for effective attacks upon fleets whilst hardening the CV core against bomber attacks trying to destroy it. (they will tend to disable components)
5" AA guns should be unable to fire below a certain elevation and no AI shell burst AA should be on the fleets. All ships to carry AI and manned cannon as per present. (allowing low torpedo bombers to get within extremes of range)

and a formation with a single battle ship AND WAVES WEATHER 50CALS!

THAT IS PERFECT!

I LIKE THE IDEA that a ship will list or capsize or blow upward in the water and back down than start sinking

YAMOTO? IF I SPELLED IT RIGHT!

I realize this something like this has probably been posted before, so spare me. It sounds cool.
The cruiser should be taken out of the CV group. There should be two task forces, one, the current CV group, minus the cruiser, and the other, a pure 'Naval Combat' group, consisting of a battleship and battlecruiser, perhaps based on the Prinz Eugen and the Bismarck. I forget what theyre armament was, 12 16inch triple mounted guns, I think it was. These could be directed at an enemy CV group, and, blast the living crap out of it with 1 foot shells. The battleship could launch Arado 196's (ok, now I dreaming).
-
Bismark was 14 inchers I believe, 16 Inchers were used by the U.S. Battleships. New Jersey Class? Or was it Iowa Class? Oh heck now I can't remember anymore... I don't know British ships all that well.
But the Resource Barges would be awesome, especially if you could intercept and sink them for some form of point or other... not really a score but sink a resource barge and land and it pops up : Joe Pilot has sunk 50,000 tons of supplies etc. etc.
Would really make my day sitting up at 15K with tanks and rockets waiting for that precious convoy to resupply the carrier come along and brutally wrench the heart out of the opponent.

Do you have a playstation 2? If so, PTO IV (Pacific Theatre of Operations IV) You command the entire pacific... GREAT game, but somewhat expensive.
If not, Destroyer Command is a destroyer simulator, from the makers of Silent Hunter. You command a WWII DD in a full simulation.

Love to! But then we'd need a Swordfish and that's a whole new kettle of...er...fish.
I like the idea of some German Battle Group type thingies. E boats too?
Also the ability to lay mines from certain aircraft in the area of invading CV groups might be fun...or it might just be really irritating. Not sure which. Quite amusing if you got a Carrier kill 3hours after dropping the mine.

I've tried "Destroyer Command", it's lame and stupid, beyond words...
I have finally settled on "Great Naval Battles" Volumes 1-4"... Complicated, but the good games always are...
Thanks

how about phase cannons and aft torpedos maximum yield...also the cv's can go warp 5

er...right...that's real original sarcasm. Your point being?

The task forces are too weak. I'm really tired of seeing glide-bombing Forts, Libs, and Lancs bulling through the totally inadequate ack and sinking a cv that some players have spent a great deal of time moving into position. Or doing the same from high altitude, something that was never done in real life.
The fights that develop around a properly handled cv task force can be monumental and extremely satisfying to all involved.....until the cv is sunk by some dweeb who has reupped 10 times in order to sink it.
To preserve the fun, how about adding some Atlanta class anti-aircraft cruisers and more destroyers to the task force? At least this would make low-level glide bombing risky enough to ensure the cv survives a bit longer to allow those that like furballing and such more time to enjoy that type of game play.
Or combine three task forces to accomplish the same thing. In WWII cv task forces tended to operate in large carrier groups.
How about toughening up the 8-inch gun cruiser so that it can't be sunk by 88mm fire from Tigers. That's something that would be extremely hard to do in real life.
A few battleships for old-fashioned surface battles would be a welcome change as well: Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Bismark, Missouri, etc.
