was in the MA this mornin, and witnessed a player accusing another player of cheating. player 1 was in his UBER LA7, when he was apparently overtaken by player 2, who happened to be in a spit9. after inquireing about his rant on 200, i decided to prove a point.:D a spit 9 dives really well, so just cuz you in HTCs version of the BFG 9000, and get killed, dont mean the other player was cheating.

this pic shows me at bottom of dive in a spit9, in the MA BTW. reached 574 IAS.

this pic shows the climb out.
that concludes this public service announcement.:aok

i fail to see your point. this is typical of most spits. whats even better is take a spit16 to 10k and then dive straight down, and then watch the plane nose itself up at about 600kias. typh and temp both do the samething.
alas my poor ki84's elevators fall off at 400kias, so i never get to drive in the left lane.

Yes you are correct you failed to see the point....which is in the above post. Here......read it this time.

So.....without further confusion the LA7 gezza was caught up by a spitfire that dived on him. The LA7 gezza was some what vexed that a spit was faster than his Lgay. Although the lgay can do four hundred and plenty in level flight, it seems a diving spit9 can do five hundred and plenty more.
Here endeth the piss take :D

You can push the yoke forward or use manual elevator trim to go well beyond 600 ias but you have to be very gentle pulling out or the wings snap off (at least in the Spits).

ah thank you for the clarification. when put that way the answer is simple. gravity has a larger play in things than your aircrafts performance NOT. and please stop accusing everyone of cheating just becuase you dont think it should be possible.

Spits don't accelerate all that well in a dive, but their terminal dive speed is about the highest of any WWII aircraft.

:rofl :rofl :rofl
I have the same desktop background:aok

My big problem with the Spits is how long they hold on to all that E AFTER a dive. I've seen them maintain distance on heavier birds with higher max level speeds far longer than they should after levelling out.

Pic of a Spit used in high speed dive trials 27th April 1944.
Dive resulted in loss of reduction gear and prop.
A previous succesful dive resulted in a speed of 606mph, mach 0.891.

Another claim, generally thought to be inaccurate due to the measuring equipment was a Spit F.19 in 1952.
Climbed to 51,550ft (highest ever for a Spit), but the cabin pressure fell below safe levels.
In his haste to reduce alt the pilot lost control, finally regainig control around 3000ft.
Evaluation of the equipment onboard suggested he reached 690mph or mach 0.94.
But as I said at the start, generally thought to be inacurrate.

Just make sure that when you dive in really fast in a spit, you pull back on your stick REALLY hard to get your shot. The wings can handle it. Trust me on this one :aok

Did he accuse anyone of cheating? No.... maybe read the post again and it might sink in:
