Vulcan,
What I find hard to believe is that after witnessing the events at Tiananmen Square there are still some Americans who find the actions of the Communist Chinese Government hard to believe.
One could argue that there hasn't been a single communist government in history that wasn't founded on paranoia, brutal repression, and blatant disregard for human rights. In this regard, the Communist Chinese Government may be the worst. The Chinese are the ones funding the genocidal war in Darfur.
In the past, the Chinese government funnelled money through its army, into the United States in an attempt to influence a presidential election. This during an administration that allowed the Chinese access to advanced computer technology capable of increasing the accuracy of their ICBMs.
There is nothing that the Chinese government will not do.
Regards, Shuckins

Soon someone will post a video of US Snipers taking out Afghans or Iraqi's (Muslim faith).

Maybe they were considered as "terrorists" because they refused to respect the Chinese authorata? :p
-C+

will their names be entered into the tibetan book of the dead?
-
How can this be happening? isn't gun ownership banned in china? The government will protect them...
must be some kind of a mistake. People and governments are not bad like they were back when the old farts wore powdered wigs and stuff.

The chinese are the good guys now. Tiananmen Square? That whole spy plane thing? A repressive society that today will lock up people who think the wrong things and let others know about it?
None of that should stand in the way of the subset of the population that makes huge dollars by doing business with China (and rewards our politicians accordingly) and of course, Joe 6 Pack, Jane Soccer Mom and Bob Middle Manger who appreciate saving 10 cents on that cheap plastic piece of crap radio or kids toy that will last about two weeks :aok

So China actually respects its own border and protects it (to and from), unlike USA when dirty Mexicans can enter when ever they feel like. How about USA adapts same policy? Problem with uneducated and skill-less illegal immigrants is solved instantly. Or as instantly as bullet impacts first 'traveler' and news spread.

Imagine if the US shot anyone trying to leave its borders? Wow.

??????????????????????
This post IMHO is totally tasteless.................
BTW I do not consider Mexicans to be dirty. I served with individuals whos skin was a different color then mine, and NEVER considered them anything other then Americans.
The people coming into America today illegally or legally are seeking a part of the DREAM.
I have no problem with them... IF they will accept the culture, the basic concepts of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, and seek to enjoy this nation as it is, then welcome and best wishs.
I often think the immigration would stop if these concepts were exported to other countries. Although things could get bloody in the other countries before things got settled............ so much greed and lust for power...........

maybe they were trying to get brad pitt

moot I may have been too subtle.... my point was that an unarmed citizenry is helpless against its armed government. you never see the government wanting to give up its guns.
my point was that governments still do what our founding fathers said governments do

lazs you do show some ignorance of the way of life there though. These people were unarmed by choice, not by force.
-
Unarmed voluntarily or not, they are sitting ducks for criminals to attack, nevermind in this situation where they are (with all due respect) as good as tin targets to plink.
Their way of life just met those sniper's.. which one survived? (Reincarnation notwithstanding :p )

No, buddhists on a pilgrimage from Tibet to India to see the dalai lama do though (thats a deep hole you got there wrag : )

I am saying that a government will eventually shoot an unarmed populace. Hell.. they shoot a few of us from time to time and we are armed.

The paranoia of the atheistic Communist Chinese government is unmatched. Where, but in China, can one find leaders who fear the non-violent activities of someone like the Dalai Lama?

Really?
Even after the dalai lama said the following?
“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.” - Dalai Lama, Tibet
Some even remark on his statement, found this on a thread.
"The Dalai Lama said acts of violence should be remembered, and then forgiveness should be extended to the perpetrators. But if someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, he said, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun."
Also IIRC when China invaded Tibet there was fighting. IIRC Tibet actually had a small army?
The Tibetians lost, just too many Chinese soldiers I guess.
So now Tibet is considered part of China?
Now, are you saying that the people there CAN carry arms?
Are you saying anyone wishing to travel to or from Tibet can carry arms?
IIRC China has some of the STRICTEST gun control laws in the world?!?!?
What hole?
-
ghandi also said that the worst thing the brits did to his people (and there was plenty) was to take their guns away.
The world is no different today than when our founders had the sense to see that governments turned evil when they had the power and that only an armed populace was any proof at all against such an evil.

They probably should have picked up arms back in the 1500s. The previous form f government (theocracy mixed with secular aristocracy) was far from a peace loving perfect society.
Check out this link for a well documented overview of the state of affairs before the Chinese invasion:
http://www.michaelparenti.org/Tibet.html
Slavery, serfdom, feudalism. The powerful oppressing the powerless. Not exactly paradise on earth. Some Tibetans (serfs mostly) called the invasion "liberation". Of course the sources cited might be just BS, I don't know.
The Dalai Lama appears to be a very sympathetic and intelligent man. Previous incarnations, if these documents hold any truth, were less sympathetic or at the very least had less control.
Karma is an interesting concept. I am not sure how it applies here but there are some alternative ways of seeing it.
At any rate, nowadays they are at the mercy of the Chinese government. Before they were at the mercy of the elite. With a fully armed society, any oppressor would basically have had to empty Tibet of people to rule it.

Doesn't mean buddhists will pick up a gun and shoot back, in their eyes not shooting back in this case has probably acheived far more.

Well Vulcan you could be correct...........
I can't say either way what someone might do.
And I have to add that I'm not a Budhist.
Just pointing out certain things that I see as FACT, or historical evidence, regarding Tibet.
So I find myself wondering.........
if those people are NOT allowed to have firearms?
Why were they being shot at?
BTW all this brings to mind this quote...........
"By a very conservative estimate, a hundred million people have died at the hands of their own governments in this century. Given that record, how bad could anarchy be?" ~~ Joseph Sobran
BTW Yo Laz here is the actual quote by........
"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." ~~ Mahatma Gandhi
