Title: Scope sight picture
Post by: Coshy on June 14, 2007, 05:36:29 AM
Does anyone know of a website that has what a correct sight picture looks like through a scope?

I'm taking my nephew to the range on saturday and I'd like to have something to show him, rather than have to try to explain it.

I remember in basic training there was a poster of what a correct sight picture looked like from a M16 sights, I'm looking for something similar for a scope (but printable from the web).

Any help is appreciated.

Best way I can describe it is fill the whole view with picture.  If you're too close or too far the look won't be right.

Best way for you to do this is simply look through the scope and check the eye relief.  When he's looking through it the distance between his eye and the scope should be the same as yours because of where the light will focus.

Good luck and have fun

For what it's worth I don't use a scope on anything with one exception which is a Savage 300 WinMag rifle.  Everything else I use iron sights and carry binoculars.  This includes hunting for Deer, Coyotes and such.  I can't hit a darn thing with a scope :(
