Title: Bigfoot sighting report near Willis, Texas.
Post by: DiabloTX on June 16, 2007, 04:17:50 AM
Ok, I don't scare easily.  In fact, I don't really get scared at all except for lightning and flying (yes, I have a fear of flying).

Out of boredom here at work I decided to investigate strange sightings and creatures.  When I was 6 I had a brother take me to see The Legend Of Boggy Creek with him.  Needless to say, it totally freaked my 6-year old bellybutton out.  I have a friend that has a small part of land up near Willis/New Waverly area the he inheritied from his father.  As kids we'd go up there to the very small 100-year old 'house' and spend the weekend fishing, hunting, and riding go-karts and a three-wheeler.  At night, on occaision, we would hear some very strange noises off in the distance.

Anyway, I came across the Texas Bigfoot Research Center's website and began reading reported sightings of bigfoot in Texas.  When I read this report I literally felt the hair on my arms stand up.

Submitted by witness on Thursday, November 25, 2004.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DATE: November 23, 2004

SEASON: Fall

STATE: Texas
COUNTY: Montgomery

NEAREST TOWN: Willis

NEAREST WATER SOURCE: A creek that runs through the property.

OBSERVED: After storm, the power went out, so I got a flashlight, rubber boots and poncho on to walk the power line up to the main road. We had a lot of lightning during the storm, so I wanted to check the lines for damage. I walked the line up to the main road and found the place that lightning hit, so was walking back to house up drive. By the way, I live on 47 acres so the drive is long and winding to house. I came around the bend towards the house and looked up and noticed 2 white dots I thought they were lights from the power company, working on lines, but as I got closer, I noticed them blink. I got a little nervous, so I kept flashlight on them. At first I thought it was a deer, then realized they were way too high to be deer. As I got closer, I guessed they were about 6 to 8 ft. off the ground. They blinked again. The air had an iron, musky smell. When I shined the light again in the direction, I noticed a dark figure, big and bulky. Hard to tell because the flashlight wasn't very bright. It blinked again, I ran and fell in the mud. I got back up and shined the light and the eyes were gone. I could hear it moving through the tree line next to me. I couldn't run fast enough to the house. I ran in and locked the door. Everyone in the house had never seen the look I had on my face before. I was scared and I don't scare easily. We went back out in a bit and I got my Q-beam out and panned the tree line till I was beside the house and they hollered, "Stop, LOOK" and there were the eyes again beside the house in the woods. We couldn't see the whole thing because it was behind the trees, just eyes blinking in the bright light. Then it ran off, deeper in the woods and we heard a throaty howl.

PHYSICAL EVIDENCE: We went out the next night and found where I saw eyes and found 2 what looks like footprints and what looks like knuckle prints, like it was crouched down. Maybe it was and heard me walking up and stood when I saw its eyes in the flashlight.

SOUNDS HEARD: No noise till it ran off into woods. We hear grunting howling noises every once in a while at night. Our dog sleeps outside, but sometimes I get woken up, with her scratching the door hard, like she's scared wanting in.

ODORS: A strong, musky iron smell.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: 10:30 pm, just after a major thunderstorm.

ENVIRONMENT: Heavily wooded, backing up to National Forest. Nearby cattle farm.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INVESTIGATOR'S COMMENTS: I talked to the witness and his girlfriend about the encounter which happened on 23 November 2004. The night after his encounter, KTRK ABC13 of Houston ran a feature about Bigfoot in Texas. The witness was amazed and contacted the TBRC about what had happened to him.

The witness saw eye shine and a silhouette of a large, upright, human-like form in the light of his very low-powered flashlight. A human can be ruled out with absolute certainty because humans have absolutely no eye shine when illuminated by lights at night. The witness's girlfriend also saw the eyes when the two returned outside later. At that time, it appeared to the witnesses that the animal was perhaps peering from behind a tree, still occasionally blinking. The animal's eyes changed from the light-whitish color to red as the reflection of the light was changed due to the animal apparently altering the angle at which it was viewing the witnesses.

The witness stated that he has heard strange vocalizations at night from time to time, but never really paid much attention to them. After his encounter, he is much more cognizant of sounds coming from the woods that surround the property on which he lives. The Sam Houston National Forest is very close, with one other private property as a buffer between the witness's home and the national forest.

TBRC and BFRO researchers may scout his property soon when we return to the area to conduct extended overnight studies of Montgomery, Walker, San Jacinto and Liberty counties and the Sam Houston National Forest with the express permission of the U.S. Forestry Service. The area has generated numerous reports and besides the Sabine River Basin, may well have the highest concentration of Sasquatch in Texas.

Daryl Colyer

There was a small wooded creek that ran behind the house about 400 yards away.

Reading this report totally freaked out...

Looking at Google Earth I found the old house we used to go to near New Waverly.

30d 32'57.78N
95d 27'04.58W

A brown smudge amongst some large oak trees.  But you can see the run of trees to the North running basically East/West  that hides the small creek.

The STORY of the Legend of Boggy Creek originated in Arkansas.

Here's the rundown from about.com's Arkansas Section:

The Ghosts of Arkansas
From Amanda Galiano,
Your Guide to Little Rock, AR.

The Legend of Boggy Creek

To see Arkansas's other monster you have to head to the southwest area of the state and visit Fouke Arkansas. This monster is a little more famous than the others . . . he's a film star.

Supposedly, this monster is 7 feet tall and hairy all over. The monster has a characteristic smelly odor and kills chicken, cattle, dogs and livestock but so far it hasn't killed any people. It walks on two feet. It's sort of the southern version of a Sasquatch (aka "bigfoot"). The monster supposedly harassed two families living outside of Fouke in the late 1960s. In 1973, the monster story was made famous in a low budget movie called The Legend of Boogy Creek (Boggy Creek is where the monster is suspected to live).

I've never seen this monster nor have I ventured to Fouke to find it.

If I wanted to see a big 7 foot tall hairy guy who smells bad and bites the head off of chickens, I'd just go visit my uncle Ernie in Bald Knob. It's really not worth traipsing through a creek at 2:00 am in the morning.
However, the cheesy movie, Legend of Boggy Creek, is worth my time. It is very interesting and makes me wonder if this monster might really have existed. I recommend you rent it before you go to find the monster, but get your *MST3k gear ready because this one is a stinkburger. If you can stand the cheesy script, actors and filming, you might learn a bit about out monster.

I cross Boggy Creek  right around dawn everyday on my way to work. Then cross it again in the afternoon on my way home. I often think of the movie I saw as a kid. The scariest thing I've seen around Boggy Creek was the 18 wheeler coming headon in my lane one dark icey morning back in January. Now that was a monster!:O

Diablo I saw a special on ethier the History Channel or A&E a few months back about recent sightings of Bigfoot around Lake O The Pines. Which is about 14 miles North of where I cross Boggy Creek. The media could find plenty of people that have seen Bigfoot. Nobody I know that lives in that area was even aware of the sightings.

That's because it's easier to use UFO sighting, Bigfoot tracks, and strange pictures of the Loch Ness Monster as material proof of their existence rather than God's mysterious ways.

I'm not saying I believe in Bigfoot but I also am not discounting his possible existence either.

I think the idea of spooky monsters is really cool mainly because it harkens back to my childhood when such things ran amuk in my fertile imagination.  Wierd noises at night especially get my darker-side creative juices flowing.

when I was teen four of us were hunting out in the holeylands in the eastern everglades.  in a hardwood hammock we were punished by some of the foulest most pungent odor I have personally ever experienced.  one of the guys claimed to have spotted a tall redhaired animal scurrying away but we found no tracks or other sign.  I'm not sure about the myth but the stink was real enough.

LMAO I don't think that's from the original movie. The movie had Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) from Gilligans Island as it's big star. Altough the original movie was every bit as bad as the example above.

Legend of Boggy Creek wasn't exactly No. 1 box office, but it was campy fun.  When we went to see it we were the only ones in the theater until another couple wandered in later.

Funniest scene was the guy on the toilet looking up and seeing >something< at the window.  :huh

Well technically speaking the statistics are in favour of off-world life / unknown species on earth (new species of life are being found all the time) over some mythical super-being.

the dade county zoo was once located on key biscayne at crandon park.  every time a hurricane struck many animals escaped.  today we have monk parakeets eliminating the crow population, wild peanoodles happily roaming the streets of coconut grove,  all manner of macaws free in flight making their homes on our golf courses.

I'm sure a few primates could have escaped and made their way north undetected via the everglades.  too bad no one has said the thing stinks.  here's the thing that stumps, how come no one has found any skeletal remains?  the last large loss of animals that I recall was during hurricane cleo in 1965.  during that event the old zoo was completely demolished and they lost quite a few primates.  do apes live to the age fifty years old in the wild?

Suckahs!

I live in Alaska, so the only thing I have to worry about is moose trampling me, wolves tearing me apart, and bears clawing/charging at me.

No bigfoot, werewolves, zombies, undead, or flying man-eating ostriches to scare me.

From a quik google search, " An orangutan's lifespan is about 35-40 years in the wild, and sometimes into the 50's in captivity."
